A smart enough but perhaps somewhat sterile pub once inside, the Northumberland was not targeted because we'd heard it was especially worthwhile; merely it was the most convenient hostelry in the nearby vicinity and didn't know of anywhere necessarily better.

I had a perfectly acceptable though uninspiring ale - two were available on pump - I must say I can't recall which it was although that will say as much about my state at the time as it might about the blandness of range. It wasn't especially busy and we rather suspected the majority of punters were favouring the nearby Court - which didn't look great but was admittedly rammed to its rafters.

I fear this is one of the myriad number of pubs in the capital that presents a traditional and welcoming exterior and suggests character may lurk within, but once inside it falls rather flat and really could be anywhere. I think the expression 'by numbers' applies. However, if just requiring a quickie this will serve well enough.

Avoid.
Two real ale pumps - one unmarked, t'other badged and was eventually the response was "It's finished.".
So, for a fine example of poor availability and service this is a must.
The external canopy was helpful in the rain.
Go to Prince of Wales Feathers in Warren St. as we did *

Turned uo just before going to hospital with my wife (36 weeks pregnant) and needing a soft drink after hot journey on tube, daughter nearly 3yrs old and sat out on the seats in the side street. This was at around 1.00pm on a thurs afternoon and almost empty. Went to the bar and before I even opened my mouth was I informed of managements policy on children and refused service. Is this what puts the GREAT in Great Britain? Come on Landlord, how about making people feel welcome...I wonder if this exclusion extends to other people in society, other than thirsty pregnant women

Smallish one roomed pub with a small outside seating area (an irrelevancy for an early December visit unless in desperate need of a cigarette). Despite supposedly being a free house ale was limited to Doom Bar. Lighting was a bit dim but the eating was comfortable and as with many pubs in this neck of the woods clientele was varied without being offensive.

Ok if in the area.

Handy for after work drinks if you're in the area - but fairly functional rather than atmospheric....
