Went here last night (Wednesday) at around 9pm. the Bombardier was fantastic! Drink it. I'm from Yorkshire and don't often say that about beer down here. Good selection of ales. It was just busy enough to create a nice atmosphere. I was last here a couple of months back; me and my fellow bearded mate were greeted with "no-one told me the Bee Gees were coming!" by a young jack-me-lad who after being ditched by the two girls he was with, offered us the 'Jaegerbombs' (?) he'd bought for them. We declined. Strikes me as the kind of place you get a lot of that kind of thing. vanillarreal - 26 May 2011 21:13
One of the better sex-pubs in London. A man holding a Golf Sale sign whispered 'beer, mate?' as I passed him outside Liverpook St. I nodded hesitantly and he beckoned me to follow. We took the Circle line to Baker St, him with his big iridescent cardboard sign and not saying a word to me throughout the ride. When we arrived at Baker St, I had no oyster card! My companion told me that when the stinking busker came through the carriage at moorgate playing a wretched rendition of 'Land of my Fathers', he had picked my pocket and given the oyster to the busker in the hope he would leave us in peace! 'That's bloody Marvellous', I said. 'How the frig am I going to get to work for the next month??' 'Ah', he twinkled, with a knowing, theivish grin.....but said nothing more! And alas, he had no oyster card either! So we climbed over the ticket barriers in ungainly fashion - not an easy task with that 'golf sale' sign. My companion was further hampered by a frizzy afro wig that had slid down in front of his eyes at inopportune moments After about 20 minutes of struggle, we managed to get body mind and spirit out of the station and a short moment later we were at the bar of The Volunteer ordering frothing flagonzolas of Droobeepunfarb. One sip and I was glad I made the detour. At that moment an orchestra filed in and set up on the floor. 'What's this?' I enquired of the barmaid. 'You'll like it, these lot are absolute FILTH!' she chirped'. She wasn't wrong - an instant later my ears were aflutter with the sound of the Dirtiest Stripper music I'd heard in all my born days. If you see the Golf Sign man, say you know me. senberbex - 22 Mar 2011 17:21
I would agree with Strongers. Hadn't been in for some years until recently as always found it pretty low grade a few years ago, but it's definitely improved quite a bit and is a decent enough option for watching sport. 6/10 mps77 - 12 Nov 2010 16:50
Don't use this pub as much as I used to as I don't visit the area as much. I've never had any problems here. A good pub to visit if you want to watch sport. The bar staff are pleasent enough even though the girls can endure a lot of ribaldry on big sports nights. The food's good- I had a great sausage and mash on my last visit. With lots of hotels nearby the place often resembles an informal gathering of UN delegates! Due to the turnover it's never too long before a seat becomes available. In the summer I've often sat outside, relaxed and watched the world go by. Several brews available though nothing too out of the ordinary. outtamehead - 11 Feb 2010 23:08
| My visit here last night was my first for some years and I’m glad to report that I thought it had much improved. I found the barman to be polite and there was a good mix of people in watching the Championship game on the two plasma screens. I would have preferred it if they had put the sound on and got rid of the inane chart music, but to be fair there were probably more people not watching the footie than were. Greene King IPA, Abbot, Directors, Bombardier and Broadside were all available along with a standard draught selection and my Guinness was well served. There is always going to be a transient crowd in this pub due to its location opposite Baker Street station and it has a reputation as a session pub before games at Wembley, but I will still pop back in for a pint or two when next passing – just not on match day.
