Most of the below reviews are from quite a while ago and pretty dated. I reckon the pub has new management since the old reviews were written. Personally I think it's a lovely pub, spacious, good outdoor area which includes a play area for kids...great in the summer! The menu has healthy choices which I loved and kids can have half portions of the food on the menu too. They had a good selection of hot drinks too, so really nice for the day time or for drivers. Good food and good atmosphere, one for families I think. Ignore the old reviews!! xfrancescax - 25 Jun 2009 12:50

The Cleveland Bay is distinctly average lacking any character, a bit rough around the edges and in real need of a full refit. However, the pub is situated in fairly affluent area and could be successful. realaleandgoodfood - 24 Jun 2008 00:03
While it is true the CB is now not as good as it was 10 years ago, it is still a good place for a lunchtime meal, or to sit outside in the summer. The clientele leans more towards hooray henry types than larger louts most of the time, so overheard conversations are often smirked at (my BMW has a bigger engine than your BMW type of stuff) Overall the atmosphere is a bit 'pub by numbers' but it is trying to be all things to all men(and women/children and dogs) so it cant excel any one thing! wherever_i_lay_my_hat - 12 Feb 2007 17:49
This pub is in the middle of an estate. The estate has two large primary schools, one of which is next to the pub! The landlord recently advertised the pub as having a 'family room' and that as they have children of their own they welcome families with childen. This is utter rubbish! As you enter the pub, the hge sign 'children MUST be off the premesis by 9pm' is a clue to the attitude of the landlord towards children. The 'family' room ALWAYS displays football on the big screen if it's on, regardless of who is in the room. The room is open plan and has no door, so young children can easily escape to the main pub area, where they and their parents are repremanded! making it a stressfull time if dining in this area - with no family facilities. There are no nappy changing facilities either. The pub garden leads directly onto the car park, this could be rectified with a simple fence to keep little ones safer. There are so many families in this area who would be more than happy to while away a sunday afternoon or friday evening for a few hours, eating and having a few drnks before walking home, but are made to feel so unwelcome by the landlord and a select few hardcore drinkers that they don't bother. pinkpooch - 25 Oct 2006 21:57
