Went to their recent beer festival - my first two choices from the 'menu' weren't available, and both of the ones I did get to try were pretty rank. Probably poor choices on my part, as on other occassions I recall the beer being quite good - and REALLY cheap!
Don't expect to strike up a conversation with strangers at the bar though - they either won't speak the same language or will have been there so long as to make any murmurings unintelligable.

Things have certainly improved in this pub since the new manager took over,He seems to be kicking out the idiots on a daily basis. By far the busiest pub in town but still the staff make me feel welcome. The ale selection is the best in town and also the best value for money. I do also like the Drapers Arms(also a Witherspoons) but there are not so many ales to choose from, they are rather more expensive and I find it hard to manouver my wheel chair as the furniture is very cluttered.

In my opinion, the current rating of 3.4/10 is very misleading. I visited on Saturday and Sunday last weekend and I’ve no complaints about the patrons, the prices, or the selection and quality of the beers. The bar staff were on the ball, but maybe breakfast on Sunday morning could perhaps have been served a little bit faster …

Since the new management was brought in the pub and atmosphere has started to improve. More staff, less smoke and better food. With regular checks on th toilets and service time brought down, the pub now has real potential. We'll just wait and see what happens from here :D

Pretty rough patrons, but usually friendly. Always busy and quite cheap prices.

The biggest collection of gamblers/quiz machines I have seen in England. Very spacious plenty of seats and the food is OK too.
