| Can't believe the prices the pub are charging since Fullers took it over. Absolutely gobsmacked, makes city prices seem reasonable. Never a frequent visitor but on the occasions I did duck in, I was always impressd with the running of the place, thouught previous manager ran a tight ship and you were always quickly served. This lot resent having to put their mobile phones down to serve you and think empty glasses left on tables will miraculously find their own way to the dishwasher. | Visited for the first time last night, so can't comment about how much it has changed since its previous life. There were five ales on tap, the strongest at 4.5 per cent. Not cheap, at �3.80 a pint, and the Everard's Sunchaser certainly didn't taste the best kept. The Westerham was nice, though. No Camra discount yet, but they're hoping to introduce one in the future. As for the wine, seemed to be a decent enough selection and the Chilean Merlot which my wife has was very nice. It was �14 for the bottle, one of the cheapest on the list. Ate too, and the menu, like the pub, was definitely on the gastro side. Burger and chips was �11.50. Obviously homemade, which is good, but came served in very fancy style on a wooden board. I went for the sausage roll (aka small slice of sausage roll) and chips from the snacks menu as it meant I could eat for a fiver. Nice enough, but suspect that the chippy opposite would have served me better. Staff were friendly and attentive, which always makes a difference. Weirdly, they were piping Harry Potter, read by Stephen Fry, into the toilets which was slightly disconcerting. When we got there not long after 6.30pm, most of the tables had been reserved for various groups. We were part of one of them, so to complain would be like the pot calling the kettle black, but were you someone just wandering in for a couple of pints on a Saturday evening, would probably be enough to send you back out of the door again. That's despite it being pretty big inside with plenty of tables and chairs. | A wider ranger of wines might be a good idea as the quality of beer leaves a lot to be answered. A Wine bar serving food would probably be a better definiton of this place, as looking after the ale seems to play second fiddle to churning out OK food. Price of booze does not reflect quality. Wetherspoons down the road, for all its faults, serves a far better pint, as well as range, and the beer is properly cared for. Suppose like many of these new gastro boozers, cracks in service and standards begin to appear after a few months. | This pub is now one of my favourites due to the complete renovation last year. Prior to the renovation I went in once and left after one pint due to the unfriendly staff and clear evidence of drug-use in there however now it is completely different. Staff are really helpful, beer and wine is reasonably priced and there is a small garden area to the rear for smokers. My only suggestion would be to introduce a larger range of wines. | You really need to ignore any reviews previous to Nov 2011 when it was known as "The Northbrook" I remember going to it in its old guise a few years ago and never went back (and if I had the chance to rate it then it would of been the 5/10 it is currently showing up on this page) The transformation into "The Lord Northbook" must win a prize for most improved pub, it really is like night and day between its old guise to how it is now. The first thing you notice upon entering is the pleasing new look/decor and open plan layout (it used to be like 2 separate old rooms divided by a bar). Next you are welcomed by very friendly staff that are more than happy to offer a small tasting (prior to ordering) a pint of one of the 5 cask ales they currently have on. The great thing is that there is always something new to try, but im glad that they seem to always have Old Dairy brewery Gold Top on, (this really seems popular with other patrons, so if the landlord is reading this, please keep it on) :) What i love is that there is a great focus on ales from local London/SE/Kent brewers such as Old Dairy Brewery/Westerham/Royal Tunbridge Wells Brewery/Truemans/Meantime - but there is normally always another Ale (think Adnams/Fullers etc) for the "less adventurous" Alehead not wanting to try anything new. There is also of course the choice of the usual European Lagers/Pilsners both on tap and in bottle as well as a good selection of Wines/spirits. Also there is a great range of food to choose from as well, have eaten there on quite a few occasions and defiantly recommend the Burger, as well as Sunday Roast (check out their website for full menus, and top table for the great reviews it has so far) In summary from my perspective, so happy to have a great local now that serves quality Ales in the Lee area.
