Finnegans Wake is a nice place with live music everyday, friendly service and some very cheap beers.

How can you get it so wrong? I really missed the old Finnegans Wake after the fire closed it. Now it has re-opened as another overpriced plastic pub with absolutely no character. The only thing Irish about the newly revamped FW is the grumpy manageress from the north who can't wait to throw people out for merely enjoying themselves. It's lost any personality it had in the past. There are 2 massive tables in the middle of the floor with very uncomfortable benches to sit on. If you happen to use them you are either facing the band or have your back to them. Apart from that there is hardly any seating. Bands are too loud & the only act to play any Irish songs was the solo guy with backing & he was so quiet you could hardly hear him. Irish my arse! I suppose it might appeal to the tourists & stag parties but its really disappointing if you ever experienced the old pub.

Finnegan's is back open after the fire and they've really done a great job. The sound system for the live music is great and has a really warm sound to it. There's more seating than there was before but this doesn't mean that the pub is smaller. We booked their VIP room and had a great night in there. Many more good times to come I think!

It's been yaers since I've been in here in the evening, but I went in recently with mate who worked nearby, just after 6pm. Fair enough, at that time it was dead. Two barmen on duty. Just as we're making our minds up, in walks this pretty foreign girl, looking for work. Well, that was it for the pints until the two gonads got a few chat-up lines in with the dame! When the opportunity came, we order 2 x Kronenbourg, which was poured, served and coin accepted without acknowledgement from gonad #2 (who drew the short straw to serve us) as he continued to flrt with the dame. "We're paying this guy's wages!" moaned my mate. The lager was flat as a witch's. blaring rugby league in your ears. We left after half a pint, unacknowledged by the gonads, who were still salivating and - probably - tumescent over the wee foreign conchita. Might head up there tonight to see what all the evening fuss is about!

I HATE going to this pub cause when I go in, I can never quite drag myself out :)

Probably some of the friendliest staff in Edinburgh. Beer price a bit steep, but for a themed pub and the friendly reception you get it's worth the extra few pence. Recently visited with my friend who visited from Germany, he loved it and maintains it's the best pub he's been to in Scotland. Another good pub is 'Scruffy Murphys' in Queensferry Street. But definately give this one a go if you've never been. The music is good too
