local pub for local people! beer garden good for kids tho.

older fashioned, double fronted stone building. small beer garden [yard]. free parking opposite. inside is open plan, but with the bar area and two other seating areas [which would have been rooms at some point in the past]. plasma tv in all rooms for sport coverage.

keg tetley and j.smiths is usually ok. No cask ales on though. I get the impression they don't move it much. its very much a "beer and crisps only" pub.
***
the new landlord [Dave] seems to be a bit of a character. likes a laugh and a joke, and and gets on well with his regulars. this seems to be doing his trade some good, as it was very busy when we called. staff are friendly and quick to serve.
***
paid a sunday night visit with friends who live locally. quiz night.
its a very "local" pub, and there are lots of regulars who all know each other.
everyone was having a good time. there was a bit of music on the quiz p.a. system, and folk were up and dancing. the landlord was larking about.
***
verdict:
seems to be a great meeting place for the regulars.
however loses points for me with no "history", meals or cask ales.
a "2" from me.

I visit here occasionally when visited a friend.
its usually quite a busy pub.
popular with the locals.
average. no meals.
1 guest cask ale. often poor as they don't shift much of it.
its recently changed hands.
