Large open beerhall type establishment that has an upper 'gallery style' area. Tends to be popular with visitng football supporters (discerning Coventry fans this time) probably due to it's proximity to the station and it being able to cope with large groups. The beer is generally good (Highway Robber on this occasion) but have found the service and food to be variable (this being my third visit). Some of the staff seem enthusiastic while others tend to be little more than ornaments, while the food tends to hit the spot more depending on how much you've had to drink while waiting for it. Overall worth a visit for the beer. There are plenty of underused and badly run pubs in this town but it seems the council would rather demolish a busy and well run establishment instead.

An excellent pub, do the council really want to knock it down?

A variety of Oakham beers sampled on my visit. Managed to have more thanexpected as i had travelled to see Peterborough vs Sheffield united only for the game to be postponed, never mind though the beer more than made up for that.

This is a big open pub that serves thai food. Guest beers are offered as an alternative to Oakham beers, i would suggest trying all of them they were that good. Service was quick friendly and very helpful.

It's simply unbelievable to read that the Council want to demolish this place! Whatever for? Is there no other land or brownfield site ripe for development without destroying something great which people enjoy? What a green disaster. The Oakham range is superb and the guest ales too a fine compliment. Vandalism, sheer vandalism is this place is demolished. Shameful. Didn't like the food though - my Thai duck wrap was very disappointing.

I have been here a lot over the past year, as meet with a group of Peterborough United fans/friends pre-match (amiable away fans welcome too - and very family friendly).

A great range of ales and the Thai food (made in the restaurant upstairs) is very flavourful, if you fancy it.

The interior is unique and there is a huge seated garden area (along with a smaller beer bar) for when the weather's nice.

Some complain about it getting too busy on match days - but if you call in early enough to ensconce, this really isn't a problem.

There is nothing overtly 'sport fan' about it to the average eye, so it is definitely recommended for all types of people at any time of the day or week - save 17.30-19.30 on some Tuesdays and 12.30-14.30 on some Saturdays during the footy season!

Renowned amongst Peterborough drinkers. Manages to have a fine range of good (and even rare) beers, regular live music and plenty of seating - including some outdoor space (where the pub will hold its beer festivals in a gazebo). The interior is somewhat claustrophobic, without the views that one would get in a conventional pub. However the conversion of the barge has been excellent and the combination with the oriental restauarnt on the upper deck makes this a place that repays visit after visit.

Great Idea.... pub in a barge. Loads of ale, well kept. Fantastic!

You enter with the bar in front of you kind of straddling two rooms/sections and with further sections to the left and one to the right. Only Sam Smiths bitter on and it was okay though nothing special but it was only £1.56 for a pint. Settled in the furthest room along and looking out across the flagstoned floor through the lead lighted window it felt like I was having a pint in a National Trust property. Handy for the railway and bus stations (and also a contrast to the Brewery tap a little further down Westgate)

Looks terrific from the outside and, as L_g_a says, you have to stand at one end to appreciate the impressive interior view straight through to the fireplace at the other. OBB on handpump (£1.54!), SS Cider Reserve, Alpine keg, plus Pure Brew lager which was the surprising choice of one of our company, sadly taking the round of six beyond the tenner. Open rooms & seating areas in sections off the ‘corridor’, various wood/fabric settles & cushioned stools, some lovely faded yellow brick flooring.

Quite a decent, cosy pub with a couple of fairly small rooms. Friendly barman and Samuel Smith's own cider on tap which is quite a decent pint.

Tried to buy a drink at 11.30 on a thursday morning but no chance. Customers were three deep at the bar and there were just two staff serving. Admittedly it was the week of the Peterborough beer festival and there were a lot of people stopping off here on their way from the station to the festival site (the festival didn't open until 12.00), but surely the Manager could have anticipated that there would be extra customers around and laid on a couple of extra staff. After all the pub was running its own beer festival to compliment the official one and had taken out adverts in the festival programme enticing people to come in and visit.
Yet again Wetherspoons lets itself down and loses customers and income for the want of a few pounds on staff wages.
The pub did look quite pleasant but that's all I can report.

Grainstore Gold, Rutland Panther, Holden’s Special, Woodforde Wherry, Pedigree, Old Peculier, Directors, Ruddles, Abbot. It’s a pretty good ‘spoons.

Not that much to say as it is after all a Wetherspoon's and they're all very similar. Open to midnight which is always handy (I think it maybe later on a weekend). They had TEN real ales on when we visited, but it was during their beer festival so I don't know what the usual number is.
This one's definately preferable to the other JDW in Peterborough (College Arms) and seems to be in a nicer part of town. That's from a very quick observation though, I don't know the area!

As Bogarts this pub was OK but rather down-at-heel, without the compensating friendliness. Has recovered as the Ostrich - I hope it's a success.

Now re-opened, and called the Ostrich, which was its original name.

Popped in briefly a few weeks back, seems ok, time will tell. Beer was good, though there were some local "characters" in there - but then that's the way it's always been.

Still shut - and for good this time I believe.

A real shame - used to love this place when I was younger. And as I got older, it was somewhere to pop in for a quiet beer of a Saturday lunchtime.

Went in last week, as the outside seem to have had a lick of paint recently and looked a little more appealing !
Pleasantly surprised decor good, good service and some fantastic deals on the food. They are making their own burgers and sausages now, so beats most other prick it and ping it gastro-pubs in the town

I used to drink in the Wheater in the early 80s what a cracking pub it was then top quality beer and service
I recently revisited a couple of weeks ago and what a crap hole it has now turned into
Its been knocked about and all of the old charm has gone and as for the beer absolutely crapulous, service is hopeless , and the food??
frozen ready meals microwaved
so a big fat 1rating for me
