Fantastic pub in many ways though I have a few reservations. Beer is always excellent and on a visit this weekend tried a couple. I agree with the no mobile phones rule but they do ram it down your throat a bit much - a big blackboard notice as well as the signs. I dont like the big marquee out the back and for we sinful smokers we can't even light up there. Still the best in Beeston by a fair margin, although there are better pubs in Nottingham area - Vat & Fiddle and Plough at Radford for sure.

When did beer in the evening become a website for small minded cowards with nothing else better to do than bravely sit at their computer slagging off others. Get a life you sad sad people.

IT's just so joyless, it serves good beer, decent food but when I go out for a drink I like to enjoy myself and have a laugh, not read the Observer.

Agree with previous poster, and the harvest pale is a smashing pint.

Castle Rock beers excellent as always. A must when visiting Nottingham for the beer lover.
10 Jun 2008 22:42
A great range of beers avaiable here. Not only is it the brewery tap for Castle Rock selling the complete range, it also has many guest beers and all very drinkable they are too.
Titanic Stout was ace and was the Preservation Ale, as was the Black Gold and the Harvest Pale.
Support your local and get down here as soon as you can.
Walking distance from the Station so no excuse!

Worth a look because it's such a remarkable old warren of a building, but beer range is mediocre (i.e. Greed King) and felt overtly touristy.
13 Aug 2008 22:26
Too touristy for its own good. I don't like pubs which get their own city-centre signposts, along with the castle, railway station and a shopping centre. The uniqueness and history of the place is lost in its pumped-up profile which it seems that the beer provider is trying to tap for all its worth. Why come here when there is a genuinely good pup like the Salutation Inn so near by.

it used to be amazing when i worked there. now it's just bland. bring back Claire the manager! she ruled!

The pub is now closed completely for the refurb.
Had a few pints of mild there which were wonderful.
Never got to see the cellars (they run trips to see them on Tuesday evenings) sadly as they are on three levels and must be quite fascinating.
Oh well just have to go back!
Fingers crossed for the refurb. It is, allegedly, the largest pub in Nottingham so there is scope to have a mecca within the city centre however Greene King aren't noted for their creative streak so it might become yet another yoof bar or gastro pub!
Let's hope not.
28 May 2008 23:50
The Bell is having a serious refurb at the moment.just the one small sidebar open. Hopefully Greene King will allow it to become the pub it once was. that is the best real ale pub in the city centre but knowing greene king I doubt it

Not a bad place, but there are better in Nottingham. You can feel a little out of place if you go at certain times of the day if you haven't got silver hair.

Nice pub, nice setting, litter out front and probably one of the most expensive pubs I've been in! Rounds costing around £7.50 locally cost at least £2.50-$3.00 more in this pub! Shan't go there again.
5 Aug 2008 12:35
Friendly pub, beautiful location...outside spoilt by litter, fag ends, dirty glasses, half-eaten meals all in need of a good tidyup on a regular basis
12 May 2008 13:14
As licensee I am biased, but you would have to search hard to find such a perfect setting with an old pub, garden, real ale and real food.

Top marks for effort with the beer and food, which are the most important things in my view. Around ten real ales are on offer, with a decent selection of exotic bottled beers too. The menu is unusual and has a Caribbean trend; my lunch was very good. As other reviews have noted, the feel of the pub is a bit clinical with a distinct lack of comfy chairs and no garden and this might dissuade me from settling in here for a lengthy session.

First impression of the pub is like walking into a sterile new built cafe/ visitors centre. One almost expected to see a gift shop there too. Our small group sat in the Ovens Room which is essentially the dining area. This felt more like a pub as there is some breweriana on display.

The pub got increasingly busy and the food looked impressive. I'll definitely order a meal the next time I visit.

There were 3 or 4 Castle Rock ales on, and several guests including Titanic, Thornbridge, and Abbeydale. All well kept. We were served quickly as there were 3 staff behind the bar.

New pub and a welcome addition to the area. Large selection of real ales which attracts a large (in more ways than one)number of real ale enthusiasts. This may change in due course but it is very much a male environment. There seems to be a lack of comfortable seating, most of the space being taken over by restaurant type seating. The food is excellent though. I would have thought that a new pub should have made more provision for smokers. There is plenty of space outside for a covered patio area and it is a great pity that this has not been done. On the whole though I like the place, friendly staff, and good service.

I recently visited the Bridge when i was travelling back from Durham with my family on saturday the 1st of march! We stoped in for a meal and a drink and i was over the moon with the waitress service and the quality of the food! The waitress was very polite and helpfull and there wa know mistakes! I would defently recommend the Bridge to my friend and family and if your a fan of real bitter try a pint of Tiger best drink ive had poured for me in a long time!

How odd that this pub hasn’t had a comment for so long and here I am posting the 2nd today! What a warm welcome at the bar after an long slog on foot from Southwell, and thank goodness I arrived before the 3pm closing (on Friday), in time to enjoy Everards Original & Sunchaser in fabulous condition. I believe Tiger was also on, but I didn’t spot it. Bonhomie, and good beer.

It's not ofton, in fact this is the first time I have felt compeled to post a comment on any establishment but...

On a recent visit to the Bridge Inn at Oxton with 2 family's, we have never enjoyed a lunch out so much.

The food was of top resturant quality the service offered by all staff was nothing short of exemplary!

We will definetly be visiting on a more frequent basis.

Shame that goodygumdrops didn't answer any of the points raised!

This 'lovely' local now has the chance to be managed by someone who knows what they're doing. It can't be worse than the last greedy grabbing tenant. Nothing to do with the goverment or anyone else. Where did the pub quiz money go by the way? I bet I know.
31 Mar 2008 14:45
sadly it is now closed, and up for rent,a sign of the times, drink driving laws and a greedy grasping government have driven our lovely local out of business, ignor all adverse comments from the other morons

This must be one of the worst pubs in Notts at the moment.
They've put a pool table in the main lounge as well as the tap room.
There is no real ale. All 3 pumps have their signs turned round. It's been like this for 3 weeks now.
There is no main heating on. The few customers that go in have to leave their coats on on a cold evening.
Shortage of glasses. The staff give you whisky & mixtures in 1/2 pint glasses.
The credit card machine has a "temporary" fault. This has been like it for over 6 months now - so cash only for your meal!
The slowest service I've ever seen. If you order 4 pints of beer, the girl does it one at a time. Obviously the training at fault. Average time to get served must be over 5 minutes. More if they're over 2 at the bar.
It's dead most nights of the week - surprise, surprise!
Time for someone who knows what they're doing to take it over. This used to be a great pub.
