Called in last Saturday afternoon. Plenty of regulars and visitors in to watch the France v Scotland rugby match. What a pub this is, a sure fire 10 rating!! A pity there aren't more like this around.

Sampled ESB and a 6.7%er called Old Jock Ale which was superb. A few more were also available, apart from a decent selection of bottled ales. The ambience and the general interior decor was something to behold! The best pub in Berwick by a country mile. If you're in the area, this is the one to visit.

Interesting pub with plenty of local trade, unusual artifacts such as an old dentist's chair at the end of the bar and most importantly a good range of well-kept ales, some Scottish including an extremely strong offering from Broughton. Deservedly popular and well worth a visit.

Probably the best pub in Berwick. Beers are always top-notch and of a good variety.
Staff are friendly and the music's good. Perfect after a walk on the beach.
Dog friendly too.

Excellent little local in a sidestreet 5 minutes walk from the station. Knowledgeable and friendly local licensee who keeps his ale in very good condition and also dispenses useful advice as to where else in the area to get a pint of the good stuff. He is planning to host the pub's first beer festival later in the year. I'll be back next time I'm in Berwick.

Cosy little pub that thankfully modern renovation has by-passed. Beer is always excellent here and staff friendly. Good place to calm down and re-establish that life is worth living, particularly after a visit to The Leaping Salmon!*!

Friendly pub visited recently on holiday, 2 beers on when I was there, Deuchars and I had the Cairngorm Trade Winds which was decent.

If you want to drink, I concur: the best pub in Alnwick by a long chalk. Usually at least 3 real ales on, up to 6 at weekends. All top quality, as they shift so much, nothing has time to go stale! A big variety of beers on offer, from all over the country (EG Skinners, from Cornwall, when I was there). Usually, there are different beers for each session, as the turnover is so fast.

I calculated approximately 130 different single malts available. Barman seems knowledgable on the malts - the wife tried one on his advice, and loved it.

Not many many visitors (as it's a bit hard to find) but busy with locals every night. However, they are friendly here - more than I can say for some of the pubs in Alnwick! A great, old-fashioned (in a nice way) atmosphere. A real, local boozer.

If you are in Alnwick, do not miss the opportunity to visit this fantastic little pub. If only there were more like it.

Note: only open evenings (most days), and no food.

Cracking pub, the best in Alnwick (sadly not a hard competition to win). A good selection of rotating guest beers, a massive selection of whisky and bottled Belgian beers, friendly locals, board games, no terrible music and a barman who is one of the politest I have met...and an annual leek growing competition. Well worth seeking out.

Great back street pub, five minutes walk from the theatre and well worth seeking out. No piped muzak, no games machines, just excellent beer in a friendly atmosphere.
Excellent range of whiskies and Belgian beers, the latter also available to take away.

Called in last Saturday afternoon. The price of the beer on offer and the food are the obvious (but unfortunately the only) reasons to visit. I received a pint of Abbott but it was obviously off. Spoke to another female staff member who gladly pulled another, explaining it had just been changed. It still wasn't right, so I was offered an alternative, which was drinkable without being memorable.

The plate of chilli con carne nachos were cheap, cheerful and quick to arrive. Some of the male locals were loud if inoffensive and it wasn't overfull.....that said the weather was filthy!! The right side of okay for the visit but no more.

For such a historic and much-visisted town, although the building itself is OK this is a Wetherspoons which should be better than it is. An above average number of terminally unemployed handrollers both inside and in the doorway making it difficult to enter, with the bonus of a whiff of cannabis in passing, but on the positive side an unusual absence of single mothers in trackies with their sprogs in buggies. Two drinkable beers from Northumbrian at £1.29 a pint and the cheapest Wetherspoons meal offers I've seen anywhere seemingly explain its popularity. It does what it says on the tin, but I would not bother to visit again.

On a sunny January afternoon, I arrived and waited at the bar. Another guy was there and it seemed that the Unleaded had gone off and she was changing "it". Time passed slowly - the girl avoided any eye contact - no communication whatsoever. Eventually the problem was sorted out and the customer served. As I prepared to ask for a drink a bloke got up from a group of local stalwarts and she served him instead. Perhaps I should have written my order on Facebook or texted her. I walked out. Mr. Hampson really should root out rubbish like this. Points : 1 for the view

Great pub right next to station. Good range of ales from both local and not so local breweries. All I tried were in excellent conditon. Made very welcome by the guvnor, staff and punters. Wish my local station had a pub like this on its doorstep!

Quite frankly I am amazed at people rating a pub poorly because it doesn't take the method of payment they wish to proffer. Surely one has some cash ??? This pub is superb, a shining beacon of a pub of how to do it! Other pubs which may take debit cards are pale comparisons.

Not surprised at the low rating this pub gets, despite it constantly being mentioned in travel guides etc. The only good point it has is the location, which is beautiful and handy if you're walking the coast.

It's always packed with tourists/walkers so getting a seat is well nigh impossible, food is pricey and only served for an hour in the evening. Service is slow and indifferent. Beer selection is limited. They don't take cards so if you've got no cash you're out of luck. The throngs of people desperate to get in or get served can make the place feel chaotic and claustrophobic.

If there was anywhere else to go they might make more of an effort, but there's always a steady supply of cagoules stomping in so they don't have to. I can't believe the number of times I've trekked all the way out here and been frustrated or disappointed. Yet we still go because of where it is.

My wife and the dogs decided to walk to this pup over the Easter break, we enjoyed a fantastic walk and were looking forward to enjoying a beer and a snack at lunch time, we decided on our food and beer however when i approached the bar to order i was in formed that they did not take debit cards. With no other means to pay i went thirsty and hungry, this did have a negative impact on the dya and the pub. In this age i find it extremely hard for establishments as popular and taking as much as they are not to provide this means of payment. I found the male barstaff apologetic but the older female behind the bar extremely unhelpfull
