When living in Leicester a couple of years ago, never went in this place as it a) looks like a cross between a prison and a public urinal and b) looks like you might get stabbed. However went in as part of a crawl and it has a great range of well served beers. If you like top ales, dont let the look put you off.

Agree that the building promises little from the outside and the front bar is equally basic and boxy with a large area to left for the dartboard (£5 refundable deposit on 2 good sets darts), very studenty vibe. The rear bar is much more pubby with some dark wood & booth seating. Regardless, it is certainly a beer pub, with barrels replaced within minutes of running out. Slaters Top Totty & Premium, Oakham Bishops Farewell, Spire Dark Side of The Moon (mild), Rugby Web Ellis & 1823 (mild), Sadlers Worcester Sorcerer, Old Rosie.

From the outside this pub doesn’t promise very much but inside it is usually a hive of activity and very popular. A couple of Saturdays back there were people dancing spontaneously in one bar while in the other I and a few friends enjoyed well-kept ales and a pizza to soak them all up. I only manage to get here once a year and I always look forward to my visits.

Nice dark wood bar, solid light wood tables, two-roomed pub with great ale selection and, apparently, ~140 bottled beers in the many fridges which wind around behind the bar. The ‘menu’ may not always be bang up to date but, from reading a tda review, the prices seemed fair, eg Rochefort8 £3.20. On handpump Oakham No Bully Dozer, JHB, Bishops Farewell, New-K-Ham Brewery Puffin, Bateman’s Salem Porter, Burton Bridge Festival, Sam Smiths OBB, Bees Amber Ale. Bar billiards table, soundtrack included Adagio for Strings followed by some cracking blues. Friendly, and beer friendly, barman who was happy to chat, great value Sun lunch suggested roasts (beef/pork/duck) at £6.95.

Up for sale at present, but hopefully the pub [lease?] will be taken on by someone as beer-knowledeable as the present owner. Belgian-influenced to the point of having a beer menu. Welcoming and friendly

Gorgeous young barman called Paul. Good selection of real ales... What more does a girl need from a pub?

Aimed at real ale enthusiasts this is a friendly venue serving quality beers. Went there for a friend's StagFest, as he lives in Bedford the fact he had his celebrations here says the Vaults must be doing things right.

Don't let the smell of wet dog as you enter put you off. Great selection of about a dozen handpumps very well served.

I think the photo here has a ‘wine-bar’ look to it, but the interior is nothing like that. Wood floor, sturdy wood tables, chairs, benches, long-ish L-shaped bar offering 12 handpumps, all on and in good nick Sat pm. Beer emporium that may cater for rockers, I wasn’t that keen on some of the metal soundtrack, but it did at least vary. The barman (owner?) knew his stuff, chatted about beers, sold us some homemade pickles, perfect for the subsequent dash to Melton Mowbray – I hope he enjoyed the Thompson’s pie we brought back for him. Stapleford Full Mash (5.9%), Bees Navigator, Acorn Chinook IPA, Oakham JHB, No Bully Dozer, Bishops Farewell, Doc Mortons Brainwash, Abbeydale Matins, Leeds Old Accomplice, Beowulf Dragon Smoke, Holdens Night Train, Loddon Wowzer. Impressive line-up.

ps. if you were less than impressed with the mention of Billy's pictorial adventures on his pumpclips, you have to bear in mind that he is a Jack Russell terrier...

A gem of a pub formed from converted farm buildings. Excellent range of beers led by the "in house" though brewed at Burton "Steaming Billy" range. My samples included the Country Bitter and Billy Bitter both of which were truly exceptional. Hope to go back before long.

Has always been our favourite pub for sunday lunch until last week. We thought something was up when we got to the car park, usually you cant get a parking space but last sunday it was empty. when we got in the pub we realised it had a new landlord, we used to have a 3 course meal for £11.50. we only had a main course last week and it was £9.50 with no veg !
Just Beef, 3 roast potatoes and that was it.
we wont be going back again.

Has changed hands several times recently since being bought by Punch Taverns. Cannot rely on finding it open at present.

DON'T go here to eat if you're vegetarian. Despite our waiter checking with the chef that my choice of meal was as vegetarian as it appeared on the menu, it nonetheless contained pieces of shellfish (NOT included in the dish description on the menu!) Disgusting. Feeble apologies.

I'm with insekt! [see review below]. Yet another pub that has been gutted and filled with veneered flooring and leather seats, plus an identikit dining area. Soulless.

i think this place is grat for a date but not for familys. The ceaser salad is fantastic and the wine range is huge its pricey but i think the staff need to be a bit quicker and possibly smile. But its nice for a first date if you split the bill lol
