OK pub. Tiny. Perhaps doesn't live up to its fame.

A handful of session bitters on the pumps, but nothing exciting.

Young barman seemed to know a fair bit about beer though.

Friendly little pub tucked away down an alleyway off of Hatton Garden.

Being a Fullers pub the normal decent range ales were on along with a couple of guests of which I had Harrier from the Cotleigh Brewery.

Standing room only downstairs so we took the winding staircase to the first floor when we could stand and chat in a bit more space.

Great to hear of the award they have been given by the SPBW and even though this was my first visit I can understand why they have been rewarded.

Dropped by last night - was treated to two Wadworth Beers from WOODEN BARRELS! A very nice surprise - it turns out it was in honour of the Mitre being given London Pub of the Year 2013 by the SPBW. Both went down excellently as expected, can only say the award is well deserved.

WHAT A FANTASTIC LOOKING PU-oh it's a Sam Smiths, keep walking.

Beautiful traditional London pub, but not the place for a quiet sit down drink. It was absolutely rammed at 6pm on a January Saturday. Despite several websites saying they did food, the barmaid said they didn't; no mention of an upstairs dining room though I found out later they have one. Sam Smith's bitter was nice and only £2.90 a pint. This would be a good pub for a quick stand up beer on the way somewhere or to show foreigners what a traditional pub used to look like, it wouldn't really be suitable for a quiet drink and read of the paper.

Wow. I think we've all moved on from the fact that Sam Smiths pubs are no longer in the Wetherspoons price range any more, but this pub now charges £5.50 for a bottle of their own-brand porter.

Great little pub tucked away in the hustle & bustle of Holborn. Fantastic range of well kept ales. The homemade scotch eggs & sausage rolls are amazing. Staff are friendly & efficient. The food is a realt treat, hearty home cooked fayre. Fish & Chips is the best ive had & the biggest.
I guess its a bit pricey but it is central london & our government are trigger tax happy when it comes to pubs. Definitely worth a punt

Tucked away behind Holborn tube station is this little gem of a boozer.

A listing in the 2013 good beer guide brought me in here but I'm sure I was here 15 odd years ago.

Wooden floors throughout, comfy little nooks for people to sit in, very friendly bar staff and welcoming land lady really set this pub apart from others in the area.

Historical decoration adorns the walls aswell as a old fashioned metal clock depicting the name of the pub which hangs above the bar area.

6 varying ales on tap including their own 1549 ale. I had an excellent pint of XXXX Porter from Ringwood brewery. A tad steep at £4.00 but the quality soon made me forget the price.

A mix of local workers, a student group and tourists make up the clientele but this is a real cracker.

If you haven't been make a special effort for a visit.

Usually seek this place out when in Town. On this occasion I was a tad disappointed; a couple of the beers were 'generic' rebrands leaving few 'quality' options. Pork pies and chutney etc was still cracking stuff. Friendly spot, well used, I'll go again.

Smacks as more of a wine bar than a pub. So-so beer quality, but friendly staff which makes a change for the area.

Nice enough. Quite authentic feel to the place despite the ill-advised wallpaper.

Eight handpumps serving about eight session bitters - bit of a missed opportunity.

Would return if in the area.

Enjoyed a brief visit here and a nice Redcar Biter. Nice barmaid and friendly. Quite empty for a mid afternoon. Will visit again when in the area. 7/10

Terrific pub, helpful staff ( mid-week evening). I take US work colleagues here and tell them the pub was built in the 1400s - they suck it up with joy!

One of those pubs one goes into to see the interior and then stays because the booths are perfect for a long evening of chatting and sipping. Beer quality is OK though it does seem to do just Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter. Its tourist route image tends to be associated with so-so service.
25 Feb 2013 00:24
This used to be called Hennekeys and, to be fair to Sam Smiths, they have kept it as it was. The booths are a delight. The beer is pricey for Sam Smiths but all-in-all it's a good pub.

Good service, awful professionals! In this pub "customers" comes last.
1 Mar 2013 11:27
Hilariously expensive.

Customers are almost exclusively boring insurance salesmen in suits who inexplicably develop loud, fake cockney accents the moment they enter a pub.

None of them wash their hands in the gents. That is not how this pub rolls.

Avoid if you have standards.

Popped in here for a swift one prior to catching a bus back up to St Pancras. Nice pint of Chiswick Bitter and bar staff were helpful in pointing me in the right direction of my bus stop. 6/10
