The Hurlingham is my new local. Such a great improvement from the Wandsworth Bridge Tavern. Great atmosphere and excellent service from staff. Was in last Saturday night with work colleagues for some drinks. Two girls working behind bar, one I think being a manager, were very helpful. Was suppose to be a few quiet drinks, but my male colleagues found it hard to leave the barmaids.
Will definately spread the word about this pub and will be in again very soon.

The last comment has inspired me to write about our previous christmas party. We expected fifty people to turn up and when a hundred arrived there was no issues. The service was impeccable and the food was exceptionable at the price which was given. We are now holding a summer staff party at the Hurlingham as it is such a great venue. So pleased there is such a decent pub in the area.

What a pub. We took 25 people there for a Christmas Meal and it was absolutely fantastic. I am only just writing this now as we are taking the same group, plus more, for a birthday party there soon. The food was superb and reasonably priced. The manager and chef were very accomodating with our requirements, and the staff who served us were very attentive, polite and friendly. What more could you ask for?Better value for money, less pretentious and better atmosphere than the over rated Ship across the river. This pub is one of the best in the area - worth travelling for.

I visited the Arbiter on Wednesday evening with five friends for dinner and drinks. A colleague had recommended the bar and I have to admit, I was impressed. The food is first class and reasonably priced. The girls loved their cocktails and the beer and wine selection kept us happy too. I have not reviewed a bar before but I thought I should as I am planning my next trip on Saturday with the boys for an afternoon of rugby and beer. Great bar, Good Food, Good Times. P.S. Put four burgers aside for us! Ta

Dear Broadhurstian,

I was very sorry to read your posting on the Arbiter, May I assure you that, last year, the offending member of staff was fired immediately upon us becoming aware of his attitude toward our guests. I feel I must apologise personally for the obvious taint on your evening with us and hope that you consider us worthy of a chance at redemption. In future may I invite you to open a direct dialogue with me or another member of management so that problems like this can be dealt with as soon as possible as I do not tolerate this kind of behaviour from anyone in my employ.

Went in the at the end of last year with some friends from out of town. I had been there before and thought the place was okay, something a bit different from a standard pub. We'd had a few drinks and decided on a round of shots, so I approached the barman and asked for a round of sambuccas; the barman's response was 'Or I could spit in a glass and serve you that'. I was so taken aback, that I couldn't respond and just walked off. Unlike 'Wandering Alice' below who clearly works here, I would suggest Avoid it at all costs! Stuck up it's own arse and not nearly good enough to justify how highly they clearly rate themselves.

Not a local but I get down here once every few months to see mates. If I could afford Fulham I would move there just for this pub! Always has a good feel to it. Good beer, good food and great eye candy. Fulham prices but it does attract a better class of customer. Love it.
22 May 2008 13:41
Still the best pub in Fulham by miles. Great garden, great food, great staff and great crowd.
14 May 2008 15:35
Definately up there with the best burgers in town!! Beer garden is great for those after work sessions. Staff are pretty cool as well...

We've always been fans of this pub - enjoying its meals and atmosphere. However, unfortunately we've found recent meals quite disappointing in quality and price. Is such a shame, not sure what has happened?
3 Aug 2008 21:00
I highly disagree with the last comment. The Duke is a lovely pub, not cheap of coutse, but it's posh Fulham. Staff always courteous but food a little ott for my liking. Youngs bitter always excellent and very nicely chilled here. 8 out of 10.
31 Jul 2008 13:12
No longer a pub, but an "eaterie". A "gastro-pub".

Used to be our local, but no more.

All the regulars have been chased away by an over-zealous staff keen to get everyone eating food (and presumably earning tips). Staff now unpleasant and officious.

A real shame.

Reviews by BITE users:

Wonderfully welcoming, well looked after by an eclectic bar staff from all points of the globe, though all with one goal, to make the evening entertaining. The lack of cheap lunchtime snacks lends it to a more business venue than a quick bite 'n' pint. The quality of staff goes a long way to compensate for this tho.
18 Jun 2008 15:54
Awesome. Best pub in the area if you ask me; well worth veering off-the-beaten track around the Broadway

Furthermore: if Carlsberg made barmaids...
19 May 2008 16:07
Great pub. Friendly and helpful staff. Is now our regular pre-match pub since the Duke on the Green took such a nose-dive.

I went to the Oktoberfest in Germany for the 6th time last year and after last Saturday night I can honestly say that this is the closest thing to beerfest I have experienced outside of Munich. The beers were HUGE and the food authentic and in MASSIVE portions. Great atmosphere. The German band was litte loud when we were there but the drinking games were fun and it was really worth the effort! I give it a big thumbs up great fun!
14 Feb 2008 18:17
Never had the urge to come in here, the last time i waled past it the windows were cracked and there was no furniture inside, it didnt look particilarly appealing ill have to walk by again soon to see if it calls to me.
5 Feb 2008 18:50
I love this place - have been there so often and can't get enough of it. The steins are awesome, the german band is great and always get us singing along. And those bar ladies in those outfits - who would want to go anywhere else?

.......and,gregc.......you've checked out all London's sports bars ?!
15 Apr 2008 10:45
The SLUG is packed Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for a reason. Famous amoungst the Antipodean community! If you are afraid of Big antipodean men (Chav_man) and you cant pull a woman in a pub that has a reputation for love, I suggest you try your luck in the Costa Del Sol.
When our teams are winning its pride which makes us feel like sporty people, but I dont expect a common POM to understand that.
I would recomend the Slug to anyone who leaves their pretentious coat at the door. Good times for all.
11 Apr 2008 16:53
The Slug @ Fulham , what a place man . this is a haven for Saffas, Aussies, Kiwis and Sport. Possibly the best sports bars in London, Atmosphere, Food, Drinks and Hot Girls you name it they got.

i am there every weekend watching the Super 14 and am always impressed by the Manager and his team of staff. A Bar like this is only run the way it is due to the manager and his team.

I fully recommend going to the slug@Fulham for an awesome experience.

So this place has been taken over by Young's? Well if that means that the food and the quality of the beer changes as much as it has then I hope more pubs go the same way.
We popped in last Tuesday for a pint and ended up wobbling out after five or six pints, a jager bomb and a massive club sandwich. I'm loving the English bar maid with the piercing and the Estonian girl who knows about the beers, We''l be back for Sunday sessions in the big seat by the fire!
3 May 2008 21:21
What a crying shame that they have sold out to Youngs but I will still frequent the pub until the changeover in March and until then thoroughly enjoy the excellent Adnams Old Ale as well as their ownbrews on handpump which will doubtless be replaced by Youngs/Wells insipid beer!
Congratulations however to the excellent bar staff including the lovely lass from Estonia who knows all about not serving ale in hot glasses - unlike the apparently longserving barmaid and co-licensee at a well known Harveys establishment in Borough!
11 Feb 2008 20:51
They have fucking sold it to Youngs and are taking the brewey with em!Crying shame! Bollocks!

Nice pub with friendly staff. Good for food during the week. Getting a bit dated now but I suppose that's all part of the charm!
4 Jun 2008 15:02
A very good pre match pint - Youngs Ord usually on.

Get in before 1700 for a midweek game to get a glass glass then watch the furniture disapear. "Lady boss is firm but fair"
13 Jan 2008 21:04
Nice pub for a couple of pints before fooball. Big, spacious wooden floors, and plenty room to chat, despite being busy. Seatng available, and good music on, but not too loud to stop us talking an d listening. Very friendly service at the bar. A hit!!

Reviews by BITE users:

Very poor service. Doesn't look as nice in real life as it does on their website. We had booked a table for 3pm, when we went to order they said that the kitchen had closed despite website and blackboards stating they were open for food all day (and despite accepting our booking). They did in fact take our order, but despite there being absolutely noone else eating we had to wait over half an hour for our food. Admittedly the food itself was quite good when it arrived but the lack of service spoiled the whole meal.
8 Jun 2008 00:07
This pub used to be dire, and was only ever frequented on a Monday for TWO4ONE pizza night (which actually was quite good). RIP the old Durell, you deserved your demise you were rubbish.

BUT...

low, the new Durell is born, and it's good! Looks a bit swanky but actually manages to pull it off. Drinks not overly expensive for SW6, beer good with a couple of decent guests, food is good (especially the burgers) and live music on a Saturday night is recomended.
19 Mar 2008 12:01
For a large open space it is very cozy, if that makes any sense. lots of dark wood and light walls, low lighting and candles. drink prices are fairly standard for this area, good spirit range ( millers gin, a rare find ), they seemed to have stayed away from the normal pub brands and put a bit of thought into their collection. food was good ( the wife and i both had the burger , which was fresh and flavourful ).
All in all a very pleasant place and looking forward to spending a long hot summer in the garden.

The Malt House is revitalised following the refurb. Well Done!
Bea is doing a great job and she's hot too. Well worth a visit.
23 Dec 2007 14:50
I must say the Maltsters is now a great improvement on the dive it used to be. I usually like keeping pubs the way they were but the old Maltsters was full of drunken/druggy no-hopers and often Chelsea fans which created an intimidating atmoshpere. Its been refurbed well with carpeted areas and music at a very sensible level and proper banquette seats instead of datf sofas - it really is a good update on a traditional pub - well done to all concerned. Enjoyed a pleasant couple of pints on a saturday night - London pride was fine and nice big bowl of assorted nuts. Only downside perhaps was the food on the menu was absurdly priced (£10 for sausage and mash I think), but all in all a very welcome change. Good to know there is a good watering hole in teh centre of Fulham

Hello to anonymous 7 aug 2007. This is Bea from the Malt House. I just thought you should know manager Chris no longer works here... :)

In the future if you intend to publicly name and critisise someone, you might grow the back bone to put your own name to it? Just a thought.

This pub is as close to a complete disaster as you can get. A terrible shame that a great local has been completely ruined.
31 Jul 2008 13:15
You should never go back. You should be happy with your memories. I can remember going on a detour to see an old girlfriend a while back and I did the same with the Cottage. 10 years since I last saw it and God what have they done. It used to be a belter when that Paddy fella ran it. I used to ride the tube for 45 mins just for the craic. Its been given the loving sledgehammer touch of The Spirit Group. Bland, bland, bland. If you must, there is better Spirit pubs close by doing the same drinks and the same menu with a little bit more class, not hard. Shame. As for the ex-girlfriend thats a different kettle of fish, she must of spent the last 10 years eating choclate eclairs which delighted me. So it wasn't all bad on the walk down memory lane in Fulham.
30 Apr 2008 14:11
I took over as manager of the Cottage 6 months ago, and just wanted to let anyone checking out the pub know that we have a quiz night starting on Thursday 31st January, 7.30 for an 8pm start, and we will be giving out samples of our new menu that evening too. Hope to see you there.

This place is amazing!! Great music, perfect for any party, drinks flow really nicely! It's a bit more pricey but it's worth it. There's a new menu that they have on the BBQ all the time. It's fantastic! The garden is the best place in Fulham but not that many people know about it! Well worth checking out!!
29 Apr 2008 11:27
looks good from the outside although its alot smaller than it looks, those mirrors on the back wall are decieving and make the place look twice as full. customers looked like your typical wanna be posh people. other than that was a good night music was ok and not to loud for the time. the most annoying thing for me was that there was only one guy on the bar serving [slowly] who didnt speak the best english while the female manager on duty was cutting lemons??? lemons can wait
5 Feb 2008 18:57
think £3.20 for strongbow is a bit extreme....beer garden is good on a sunny day...was in there for a couple of hours yesterday....ok but would not stay all night as a bit poncy
