Popped in recently for the first time ever just to give it some sort of support before it should close. Well, I really thought that it was quite average and this includes everything from ale, decor, service the lot....luckily the locals seem quite friendly.
It is a shame it is closing due to the entire modernisation these councils think we 'need', but after my experience I probably wouldn't have gone back anyway.

Convenient for the football/cricket/rugby and easy to find, this is a really pleasant place to visit with good beer (notably the Tomos Watkins brews) and a wide range of good-value food in comfortable surroundings. Though not a traditional "authentic locals" pub, this is probably the best choice (especially if combined with the adjacent Y Mochyn Du) for the stranger to Cardiff on a day trip to refresh themselves in friendly surroundings.

A much safer and more pleasant pub than all the other filthy, dangerous, piss-infested larger dens of Cowbridge Road in Canton. Here the landlord is amicable, the beer garden is pleasant and the decor is nice.

The best pub within a 1 mile radius.

Clean, friendly pub with quality interior. Brains SA was excellent, didn't have time to try the food but it looked pretty boring. I'll be back.

Classic traditional pub, beautiful original(?) tiled floor. Good range of well kept Brains (Bitter, SA, Gold and Dark). Good atmosphere for a good chat. Popped in for one big (13) round on a Thursdy evening (7.30ish). served quickly, well worth a visit if you appreciate tradition and real ale.

Really rather good for a city centre pub - probably sufficiently old-fashioned to keep some of the more disruptive elements out. Four Brains real ales on draught, including a nice pint of Dark.

The Rummer has just started selling Wye Valley HPA. I cannot walk past the place now.

Pretty much as the last review. Pleasant enough trditional pub, just a shame most of it smelt of the gents. Hancocks HB the only draft available. It was ok but better off at the Goat Major roud the corner where there is amuch better choice of real ale.

A pleasant place to get out of the rain for half an hour while shopping, read the newspaper or lipread the silent TV. HB was average but not good enough for a second one. By the looks of previous posts its a pity that ale quality is hit or miss because we need this sort of pub in our towns.

This is a nice conversion of an old theatre in central Cardiff. As with all Wetherspoons, offers exceptional value for money. On my recent visit the Ruddles and Brains cask ales were both good.

The manager of here and of the Great Western need to be sent on a "how to succeed in business by having more adventure in ordering ale" course. Amongst all the usual humdrum was Newmans "Autumn valley flower" though not in great nick, and Hobgoblin predicably "coming soon". Could do better.

This is heaven compared with Walkabout down the road.Big Spoons, busy but large enough for the Saturday afternoon crowd. The ale was fine ,cannot say the type grandson doing the fetch and carry and the food came in reasonable time OK.
Not your traditional pub but no Spoons ever is. It did enough to fill up a hungry student.

So-so Wetherspoons. Rhymney Export very nice, Marston's Pedigree good, but nothing else of interest. Definitely aimed at the weekend vertical drinker.

Only 5 handpumps in this outlet with 4 usual MacSpoons suspects on,along with Rhymney Export as guest though surprise surprise it was "coming soon"..... Grr etc. The half of Pedigree was ok though.

Staying at the Travelodge on a weekend wanted somewhere close for an evening drink. St. Marys Street Cardiff can be a bit scary at night on a Fri/Sat night. For a Lloyds bar this was quite civilised, and we spent a pleasent evening after a meal elsewhere.Beer and wine OK. Would visit again.
