please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have only just started going to this pub with my friends as it has such a lot going on lately. My friends and I went to the Christmas and New Years eve parties and what great nights we had. The beer, the lively atmosphere and everything about this pub is great. Thanks to the staff and management, your doing an excellent job.

I used to be a regular in this pub many years ago but moved and only pop in on an occasional basis. However, I know some of the regulars very well and my review is based on my infrequent visits and their opinions.
Again under new management and despite being warned by the regulars they are repeating the same mistakes and doing it even worse than previous managers.
The car park is like a bus depot with cars pulling in, doing a drug deal, and driving off.
The travellers are again running the pub and many that were barred from every Macs pub are now allowed in. The new Management (Mike & Petula) are so convinced that they know how to run a pub that they are ignoring all advice. They seem to think that all the previous managers were idiots and they will get it right.
If anyone from the drug squad or the local council reads this, you need to raid this pub regularly. Thank God I moved from Wormley as this pub is attracting the worst type of scum and those that remain are being terrorised.

Great local pub. Really good atmosphere over the weekends. But quiet in the week if there isnt any sport on. Entertainment is now on every Friday which is really good. Beer is good and Staff are very friendly and easy to get along with. Shame there isn't any food But overall a good pub

This is once again under new management. The new manager has been there for 5 months and I have been in about 30 times during that time (Different times and different days). I have seen him only once in that time. One of the regulars told me that he is never behind the bar, and would rather pay a young girl to do it for him. This has led to most of the regulars deserting the pub and going up the road to another pub. I'm surprised that Macmullens have not put a stop to this waste of money on unnecessary bar staff... The Manager makes the pub... and this pub has no soul because there is no Manager.

Now under new Management and all the better for it. They're doing live music every Friday and they have booked some of the best local talent like The Bonnett and my personal favourite party band TEQUILA. It's a traditional local's pub and much improved on days gone by. The atmosphere can be a bit quiet but I think that will improve as people re-discover the Old Star.

It appears that they have now got rid of the Pikey element. Everyone is holding there breath to see if this lasts. McMullens need to give their support to this rather than hide behind a misunderstanding of Equality & Diversity legislation. I honestly believe that Diane (the pub manager) is doing her best, but is getting no support from the brewry. If McMullens is sued in the future for criminal damage to an individual, it will not be down to Diane. McMullens need to consider the income from unwanted patrons against the millions that they will be sued for when something goes horribly wrong.

Just been back and it has all changed. New manager has allowed travellers to tke it over. Apparently a local had his hair set alight and the manager acted as if nothing had happened. Obviously scared of them he has chosen to do anything they ask at the expense of people who have been going in there for years. The new manager (Howard) is without control and this pub should be put in your diary only if you want a fight.

Visited this place for the first time in a couple of years and was pleasantly surprised to find that it no longer turns into a nursery school at 3:00p.m. (Over 18s only). Much friendlier than it used to be. I returned a few days later and the only anxious moment was when one of the regulars got upset when the barmaid turned the racing off to put some 2nd rate football match on. (She was out of order as there are several other televisions for people to watch). Beer was pretty good quality.

Definately a pub of 2 halves. Recently redecorated and under new management it has a "Central Perk" coffee shop feel. The old regulars (of which I claim to be one) keep themselves around one side of the central semi-circular bar while the younger crowd stay the other side with the pool tables (and God help you if you tresspass). During the day the racing is normally on one of the 4 televisions keeping the regulars happy and in the evenings there is usually a pretty good selection of music from the jukebox (Be warned there is a massive Elvis fan there). This pub did have a pretty rough reputation but Pearl (the new landlady) has kicked most of the arses out and it is a big improvement.
