This is Stone's branch of Wetherspoons. It was actually quite quiet for a Saturday evening in November. There were plenty of spare tables. The usual Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar were on. But they also had Slater's Columbia Coffee Stout, Oakham JHB, Salopian Oracle & Shepherd Neame Bishop's Finger. They don't stock real cider as according to the barman there is apparently no demand for it. Still a 6/10 though, as the quietness meant that the atmosphere wasn't quite as rowdy as many branches of 'spoons.

Right in the town centre, it is an old Post Office.

Really a typical Spoons, although the service was fairly good. Better than many.

Not quite sure what to post about this place. Ive been twice and had totally different experiences. The first time was early evening, and there was a pleasant mixed crowd inside, and I had no trouble getting served. The second time was at lunchtime, when post people seemed to be toothless geriatrics ordering rounfs of coffees. Needless to say that meant the service was ridiculously slow. The three staff members didnt even think to try and serve someone else, but queued up to use the coffeemaker !!

4/10 6 for early evening, 2 for lunchtime!

A typical JDW pub, with the usual understaffing.

Two very well kept pints on my midweek mini tour of Stone. Typical spoons but quality of beer very high especially as both i had were the first ones out of the pumps that morning.

Took advantage of the 2.99 menu for a cheap lunch. Only had one pint which was ok. Ditto previous review.

Perfectly good average-sized Spoons, typical of a small-town conversion. Service and standards up to scratch; beer not bad for Sunday morning !

Visited this pub on 22 December 07. Cheap and well kept ale. Was there for one pint, so can't comment on it as a rgular/long visit, but for a 'Spoons' it seemed a decent hostelry.

Do you remember when Tim Martin declared his pubs would be free of music and televisions. This one has two 42 inch Plasmas, one switched to Sky News and the other switched to Sky Sports News, both with no sound. Why ? What is the point ? Is Tim in bed with Rupert ? I think we should be told.

My Guinness tasted somewhat metallic. It was replaced with perfectly sound Kronenborg but no investigation as to the nature of the problem.

Everything is cheap though.

But do you go shopping in a pound shop ?

Went in last week, asked for coffee, and the comment I got was... does everyone want bloody coffee today or what? And this came from a blonde girl whos badge said supervisor. Oh dear. The place was a mess, none of the tables had chairs round them cos they had all been moved around. Coffee was lovely when I finally got it but I didn't dare ask for another.

Everyone knows what Wetherspoons are like but unlike most others this is clean without the normal tramps in there all day.
Food is better than other Wetherspoons obviously the same stuff but better cooked and presented. Friendly staff but not enough of them at busy times which is usual for Wetherspoons.
