Spacious city centre traditional pub that was our first visit on Wednesday morning. It was open at 10am and there were already a handful in, mostly older than us. But, there were a couple of kids too. 3 pool tables are at one end and there are many references to Welsh rugby. Sky Sports News was on one of the TVs. Others showed other channels. Ales were Box Steam Soul Train & Sin Bin, Brew Monster Leviathan IPA, Greene King IPA, Mumbles Red Dragon & Glamorgan Cwrw Gorslas. Ciders were Snail's Bank Spiced Rum, Gwynt y Ddraig Ancient Warrior & Celtic Warrior & Artisan Ciders Talking House Elderflower. There's plenty of good pubs in Cardiff city centre. But, this is one of them.

The Queens wasn't my first choice for a beer while I had an hour to kill before meeting a pal in the City Arms but apart from the 'spoons was the only pub open just after 11am, and it was already fairly busy when I arrived here.

The Queens seem very much a Cardiff City match day pub as a lot of the punters had City shirts on. The walls are adorned with Welsh Rugby photos and a few framed shirts, not surprising as the pub is almost opposite the Millennium stadium and Cardiff Arms Park.

5 ales on the 6 hand pumps, I went for a pint of Mordue Brewery 5 Bridges @ 3.6%, a nice pint but for some reason it was served in a warm glass! Pointless in my opinion & ruined my drink.

This is a large and spacious pub with a rasied dining area looking onto Westgate St, the large curved bar is towards the rear with 3 pool tables in the back. There's a Guinness bar in one corner which was closed on this visit. Lots of tv screens and fruit machines give this city centre pub a 'proper' feel to it.

Above the bar are plenty of beer pump clips from breweries all over the UK. Music was playing from the video juke boxes .

Toilet doors being open into the pub was a bit odd but this is a very decent pub but they shouldn't serve their ale in warm glasses!

Nice pub with a decent selection of cask ales, the ones from Gloucester brewery are specially recommended. Okay food.

The first thing to note about this pub was it was open for business. First one I tried had an open door but a surly "not servin' yet" occupant. I'm talking about you, City Arms. I don't give a tinker's cuss if a pub is closed, but an open door is an invitation isn't it? So I gave a tinker's cuss, and more besides. Now, the Queen's Vaults. Large, fairly busy, efficient bar staff & a nice pint of Brain's Peloton (2.99). Extra points for being open.

This is a large roomed City Centre pub, with lots of screens and three pool tables. The room is adorned with pictures of Welsh Rugby players down the years, lending itself a Welsh character. There were a couple of real ales available on the bar, one from the Felinfoel Brewery, as well as a boxed cider. It wasn't as atmospheric as other nearby pubs such as the City Arms, but it offered a reasonable stop, especially given that it was open till midnight on a Friday evening, when others nearby had already closed at eleven.

Soulless - seems to want to try and please all and fails miserably

Seedy but not unpleasant bar with lots of life, some of it low. Terrible, squawky, no-bass-and-all-treble PA for Thursday night quiz will probably stimulate you into looking elsewhere after 8pm.
