Women beware of the gentleman serving behind the bar. He'll end up in your bed.
Good beer although sometimes the real ale isn't always on. Food is also of a good standard for a local town centre pub.

This pub has gone down hill - at the famous pump corner in Dorking...
During the day, a bored barman grunts as a welcome - but the food is reasonable.
Sad, because its a fine pub in a fine location. Management and staff just have other priorities - not related to running a good pub.

Creche...yes. Awhul, the landlord is is in a world of his own.
As his ex-wife says.
The stupid grin don't help!
|
Reasonable town centre pub - which can sometimes resemble a creche (with very young kids being looked after on site). Beer is good; so is the food and plasma screens show sport. One of the better Dorking town centre outlets.

The landlord was at the Old House at Home and before that he was at the Bulls Head - so really he's back where he started.
This is a lovely little pub and the landlord knows how to run a good bar. It's well worth a visit, but personally I shall not be making too many return visits because I think that Pride at £3.30 is extracting the Michael a bit - I know it's Surrey but I can think of many bars in the middle of London where I can drink Pride cheaper than this.

The landlord has changed and has brightened the place up and got rid of the bar billiards table. I understand the landlord has come from The Old House at Home
|
It's OK. Fair range of beers and a bar billiards table. Food menu looked good.

Open again.

Formerly a rather good and usually very busy Gale's house, now of course forming part of the ever-expanding Fuller's tied house portfolio - and now the 3rd on the same street following the Cricketers and the Queens Head. The few visits I've made (Saturday evenings) since the changeover suggest a change in customer pattern; it is no longer thronging at 8PM and indeed seems pretty dead, but suddenly after 9:30 things pick up and people start to venture in. Perhaps the punters are tempted to do a crawl and this pub falls later on in the proceedings (this is actually a good modus operandi in Dorking if you like your ales - I tend to find the town is better for the sum of its parts in that it's good OVERALL, but there are in my view no truly outstanding hostelries there). Anyway, the beer is in good nick and it remains a pleasant, smart town pub. Well worth a visit; it's just a shame there are so many pubs nearby all offering a similar experience and an identical beer menu.

Things have changed a bit since the last review shown here. There's a new landlord who seems to be making a resonable job of it.
Good beer but I haven't tried the food (other than a cheese roll which was a pleasant surprise because we don't all want fish and chips, etc).
Make a visit a judge for yourself.

Nice pub.. Bit on the small side but makes it more cosy.. Food is good too, i hear its good at the weekends.. Glad to see that simon and anne have it back again..
|
Small town, small minded staff who really could do with getting out of Dorking once in a while. Actually, no, please stay where you are.

BORING.........BORING..........BORING theres nothing to look forward to when going in this pub except for feeling sorry for yourself, Simon is the only person who will ever be able to run this pub but hes got a bigger and better pub now

Since the landlord left a month ago to go the Old House At Home on West Street, the service has gone downhill quite dramatically. The pub is being run by relief managers who obviously do not give a toss! Beer sampled not bad but, until a decent landlord comes in -- the atmosphere is almost as poor as a JD Wetherspoon! People serving behind the bar were more interested in watching Ready Steady Cook than serve me a pint -that, says it all!

I was working in this town today and thought the service was shocking for a london pub. Full of chelsea saddo's who should support west ham!

In response to the last message:
It's not a wine bar for Marcus, Penelope and Tarquin to discuss polo and Mummy's new Bentley! The Bulls Head is a proper pub. The food isn't fancy but it is good and excellent value for money.

Too many football supporters frequent this place -- common conversation centers around Chelsea FC and how crap the England team is! Full of men sporting tattoos and shaven heads. Poor selection of wines and the food is the everything with chips variety.

A true blue (Chelsea) pub! Still, it is not a bad place to drink - good Bass. Smoking and non-smoking sections yet, it still has a good atmosphere.
