Nice old pub selling something different from the usual Brains. Decent pint of Wye Valley. Friendly Bar staff.

A decent pub in Cardiff in which is a city becoming more commercialised by the day.

Pleasant oldy worldy interior and a good range of ales on, my pint of Blorenge by a local brewery was fantastic.

I would have stayed for another but didn't have time.

7/10

Busy city centre pub, but swift service. Hancocks HB £2.89 was a decent beer.
Lots of ales on and not a Brains in sight.

Another good city centre pub in Cardiff and this one is not a Brains pub. The interior is a bit dark, but still fairly atmospheric. The ale range was reasonably good - Hancocks HB, Otley O4 Colombo, Wye Valley HPA, Theakston Grouse Beater & Black Sheep Best Bitter. Cider was Thatchers Heritage. More knowledgeable bar staff were to be found here too. I was quite impressed with the professionalism of the staff in the city. Close to the castle, if you're doing the tourist sites.

Reasonable enough pub across the road from the castle. Had a selection of ales on had one of the Wye Valley brews which wa snice enough.

Busy although we were here early in the day - food selling well and looked good, and there was a good range of ales on offer. Those we tried were all in good condition. Friendly efficient service. The pub is well situated close to the castle and just round the corner from the Goat Major.

A pity that so long has passed since the last review.
This is a fine place, and ale prices seemed reasonable to me. Menu was quite impressive, though I did not eat.
Worth a visit.

The Rummer is a nice little pub which attracts a decent punter. It doesn't attract the St Mary's St type thankfully. Sadly, it has a dearth of good drinks and these can be quite expensice.

Food is good though and have some very friendly staff.

Too small to swing a dead cat, but the food is pretty good.

The Rummer has just started selling Wye Valley HPA. I cannot walk past the place now.

Pretty much as the last review. Pleasant enough trditional pub, just a shame most of it smelt of the gents. Hancocks HB the only draft available. It was ok but better off at the Goat Major roud the corner where there is amuch better choice of real ale.

A pleasant place to get out of the rain for half an hour while shopping, read the newspaper or lipread the silent TV. HB was average but not good enough for a second one. By the looks of previous posts its a pity that ale quality is hit or miss because we need this sort of pub in our towns.

Looks like an interesting old pub, but the tables near the stairs had a distinct aroma of toilet chemicals wafting up from below. Only one real ale on offer (a reasonable pint of Hancocks HB).

Always liked this city centre pub. good pub to have an all day session in esp if you like HB.

Deceptively large pub with an extra seating area upstairs. Food was amongst the best pub grub I've ever had. Quick and friendly service and a good atmosphere. A top pub!

After a weekend in Cardiff drinking more than our fair share of every type of Brains beer we could find, thought we would welcome an alternative not serving Brains -but the HB beer on sale at the Rummer was not good. Pub itself OK

Quality pub, nice atmosphere, a place where you can have a conversation without having to compete with blaring music, even when it's busy. In my top ten list of pubs.

Long dark narrow pub directly opposite the castle. Has some comfortable armchairs in one corner. One of the better pubs in Cardiff - only complaint is that there is often no real ale on tap.

Couldn't agree more. Good pub always make sure I drop in when visiting Cardiff and certainly a world away from the stag/henparty chavs that have ruined St Mary Street.

This is a good pub, one of the best in the centre of Cardiff. A very old pub, opposite the Castle, it is worth the walk past all the hellish bars full of chavs to get to it. Is frequented by normal people, and usually a lot of crumpet. Also has a good quiz machine.
