Visited here with my wife on 21st October for a pint and something to eat. We're not 21 any more and wanted somewhere that can cater for sensible people and actually found the right place!
Beer (Bass) was well priced, albeit a bit frothy and the food was very good for the price. It was busy there because of the theatre crowds about to depart, but not overcrowded. We will definitely be going here again when in Plymouth!

By comparison to the other drinking establishments in the Royal Parade/Union Street area this one is a goodie. Proper pub with upstairs and downstairs bars. Drink selection is a bit limited but the draught Bass was good. Pleasant and agro free atmosphere. The touch of class and adult feel to the place tends to deter the real muppets who have a more than ample choice of dross chain bars just down the street.
In another location I would say the place was average/mediocre, but situated where it is, it's outstandly good by comparison to it's competitors.
However, it is not top 40 material by any stretch on the imagination, so a rating of 5/10 is a fair reflection of it's relative merits.

As far as City Centre Pubs go, this is a cracker. Good draught Bass is very difficult to find anywhere in the UK anymore, so it was a very pleasant surprise to find it here. And it was very good.
The interior of the pub is a joy, with two and a half floors (there is a mezzanine level), two bars, and a smart, traditional decor that hints at it's previous life as a Bank. There are lots of little nooks and cosy seats to be had.
It's also handsome from the outside with it's striking, rounded design.
The pub is not cheap, particularly regarding the beer - but then again, no central Plymouth pub is these days. However, The Bank is quite unique in being a good, traditional, Plymouth City Centre boozer, and it's beer is excellent. So if you happen to be waiting for a bus in Royal Parade, and you hanker after more than the Hogs Head and Yates' can provide, I strongly suggest that you give it a go.

City centre pubs don't come much better than this. Drinks selection is of the usual standard, nice friendly staff, and good food served. Unlike most city centre pubs, this one has architecture you'd want to spend time with - it's got a good bit of character, rather than the rather bland look sported around the rest of Plymouth's city centre. Lovely place.

The lack of real ale is disappointing, but otherwise very little cause for criticism(other than the in-house radio's late-80s pop obsession). Staff totally agreeable, comfortable and plentiful seating, and the Deal Or No Deal game! What more does one want?
Plus there's always the chance of spotting a ZZZ-list performer on hiatus from the nearby Theatre Royal. Hayley Evetts anyone?

great place!!!

For a chain pub, this place is pretty good. It's retained a good deal of atmosphere, is pleasant and airy inside, has an expansive beer garden and a reasonable selection at the bar. Meals are cheap and competently cooked. If you're going for a few pints you can't do much better than this in Plymouth.

Great City Centre pub. Ok prices, great staff and always a good atmosphere. Safe, secure and well recommended.

This is probably the only pub in the city centre. The architecture inside and outside means it's definitely worth a visit.
The only 'ale' is Tetley's, but this is cheap but if you want a proper pint of real ale closer to town I'd suggest you'd walk to the Minerva(ten minutes walk away).
There's never been a bad atmosphere in there when I've been in.
Just to mention there is a karaoke night on a Wednesday, although I'm sure this is well advertised.

Steaks ARE v good!!! Went in with the Mrs, 2 grandsons and a family friend about 6pm Thursday 16 March - had a couple of drinks and some excellent meals - staff very welcoming.

This is one of the only nice old buildings that survived the WW2 bombings- its a nice little pub- maybe could do we a bit more character and a refurbishment- but generally its nice hidden gem in the city. Not too expensiove either actually

A large atmospheric former bank with some interesting achitectural details (check out the ceiling!). Beers are cheap (happy hours up to 20:00, and they are happy prices!), well managed and staff are attentive to the point of sycophantic. Tends to be a stopping off point for most punters, but rapidly becoming my favourite city centre pub. Have it on firm authority that the steaks are very tasty too!
