please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Popped in here a few weeks ago, omg its brilliant now, never liked the previous managers so stayed away, my in-laws told me how different the atmosphere seemed since the take over of real managers and i have to agree its fab, the managers make everyone feel welcome and unlike before they are always around, He is a character "a real life Alfie Moon" just hope they stay longer than the managers over the last 10 years,

John Barras pub that was busy on our weekday evening visit. They serve good value food with plenty of offers. £9 for 2 main courses was not a bad deal. Although the food was roughly what you would expect for that price. The only real ale was Courage Best. The bar staff and locals were friendly.

Been a couple of times and seemed ok. Decent pint of kronenbourg.
Fairly quiet which seems standard for a lot of pubs these days.

Probably the locals pub in the area with one bar and a couple of drinking areas. There is also a "patio" outside for smokers. The staff were very chatty and keen to see us for the football but on the day we skipped the pub and used the others in nearby Ickenham. Perhaps it was because we are real ale drinkers and the only beer available was Courage Best Bitter !! Handy for West Ruislip station. Note: There is another pub opposite the station. The Fairway is part of the Golf Complex but is open to the public. It is a large modern building with a bar and a Lounge/Restaurant at the back. Marstons EPA was the only cask beer but they had lenty of the usual kegs;kagers and ciders. Looked OK although we didn't stop for a drink.

Popped in here for lunch about 2 months ago, after first trying the C & H down the road and not liking it. The (newish) Landlady was really friendly and I had a really good value lunch with a real warm welcome. Pub very quiet, but she deserves to succeed.

Firstly I think it's worth pointing out that the pub has been under new ownership since all but the last one reviews have been submitted.

I've been living in Ickenham/West Ruislip for a year now and I've found the Soldiers to be an excellent local. The staff are friendly and my flatmates and I have got to know them quite well now. Food is good quality although they only serve it until 7pm I understand, and there is a good selection of beers. Dartboard, pool table and quiz machine provide fun activities while you drink, and the other local frequenters have all proved to be outgoing and amiable. All in all I would recommend a visit.

Must be a different pub! I have just moved to the area and I have found the place to be really welcoming. All behind the bar could not be more polite and I have yet to come across an agressive local. The food is great value for money and the beer even better! I really cant fault the place, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

No real beer. Violent and mouthy crowd. L/L allows regular lockins. Frequented, on a regular basis, by two nutters "Living in the community".

DON'T.....

Anyone who drank here approx 4-5 years ago will know this boozer is nothing like before. Old champions drinkers spilling into the place now too. Which is not a good thing.

This is a beautiful pub opposite the not so beautiful base! Beer garden is nice, child friendly in summer too. Check out those BBQs. Lemonade is great, beer is even better, and best of all, their dinners. Its nearly lunchtime as I type this and my mouth is watering for one of their steak and kidney suet puddings or pies, whatever it was! A superb atmosphere for watching live sport too. A must for any public house fans in the Ickenham/Ruislip area, but go during the day if you want to eat in peaceful surroundings.

Mr. Hallowed,
I have been coming to this pub ever since I came over here from across the ocean......yeah, I am one of those "Yanks". I am sure you know me, or atleast have seen me a couple of times. I use to go in there practically every night and I will continue to do so. I have always enjoyed going in and ordering a nice cold one from one of the pretty barmaids. You might be saying to yourself, "well, if you go to this pub almost everynight, than how do you know how the other pubs are?" To that, I say, "I have been to more pubs than I can count in this country. I am a United States sailor. My kind is no stranger to the pub scene." The bar staff is not rude at all. They are lovely young ladies whom I admire and respect. It must not be an easy task to serve drinks to 4 drunk guys, take orders from patrons, while at the same time, trying to change to channel on one of the 3 TVs they have in there. Now, I am not picking on you at all. I just felt you needed to be corrected.

Handy for West Ruislip tube, before heading to Loftus Road.

A few things to clear up...
-we have 3 tvs not five.
-my staff are told to stand up for themselves when ignorant people are rude to them.
-drinks are not expensive (fosters 2.20, john smiths 2.10, doubles 2.35 and food two meals for 6.95) what more do you want? blood?
-whores do not enter my pub and if they did the person who mentioned them in their message didnt tell management about them, or did you use their services if they existed?
-food is microwaved but majority of pubs are and if you want food prepared to order you will pay substantially more for this.
-if you dont like americans dont talk to them, racism is not a nice trait.
-and to both people if you feel the need to swear on a revue about a pub and cannot articulate yourself better then dont write anything at all.
-and finally my customers are well valued in my pub but when i come downstairs and am greeted by ignorant idiots telling me how to do a job they have no idea how to do then drink at home and save me and other pub managers the hassle. and if you feel the need to express your views to myself i will quite happily to tell you where to stick them.

This pub has been my local for 40 years it now has reached an alltime low, successive changes in ln managers the introduction of 5 televisions has driven out the once appreciated older customers add to this louts f---ing and blinding at the 5 tvs in the guise of football.PUNCH TAVERNS ARE THE LATEST OWNERS AND SEEM TO HAVE NO PUB RUNNING SKILLS AT ALL!

miketheglass - 10 Jun 2006 19:47

Bruno Brookes - 18 Jul 2004 16:53
the soldiers is a warm, friendly pub that boasts excellent food at cheap prices, two bars, two tv's, always showing the sport. Friendly bar staff, darts board, and has karaoke and live music every now and then. it was the legendary venue for germany 1 england 5 in 2001...
