user reviews of the Calico Bar and Eating House, Mansion House

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

On the surface Calico seems like a nice enough bar. But after experiencing the ordinary service and wading through the flooded toilet floors it is obvious that appearances can be deceiving.

Hi there,

Am a regular at Calico have had many a pool evening and leaving drink and quite enjoy the busy atmosphere and regualry play pool downstairs at lunch times.

Was chased out today by some physco bar manager screaming at us that we must buy drinks before we start playing pool downstairs.

We always buy drinks and often lunch but were totally taken back by here totallian attitude and down right rudeness.

The bar has just lost three customers.

Had a works party last week, all went smoothly. Bar staff kept busy all night & helpfull with it. Food was on time & enough of it for all. Well run by the manager.

Went there last night. Great food, good service, a very crisp Pinot Grigio and a wonderful hand bugler.

to be honest, the previous reviews have been very mis-guided... last night at Calico was a fantastic evening - packed house, good food and friendly service - a definite return visit is planned very soon!

went to Calico last night in a party of 80 and everyone agreed a fantastic night was had by all! very good food, a very drinkable Chilean Merlot and very welcoming waiting staff.. will definitely return but only if Bennett promises to do stand up again!!

This bar used to be a p&p but in September it got a new lease of life...fantastic food, great staff and a very welcoming management team - we call them little and large!! An absolute brilliant transformation with staff that really do want to help. I have had 2 party's with Lisa and I can't give more than enough praise to the service my company received. For the comments below, you will find that the dates were when Calico wasn't open....??? A brilliant find that gets better and better!

Their food is like roadkill and the staff are miserable. Music is awful tinny rubbish. Can't see it surviving much longer

Sterile, non-descript, sould destroying- popped in for one pint recently to see if Calico is better than its prvious incarnation, the P&P. If anything, its worse.

And that is about as bad as it gets folks.

So many better bars in the area.

Modern interior design does not a good pub make. If you've always liked the idea of sitting down in Ikea with a bottle of wine then coming here will give you an experience that is pretty close. Clean, tidy, inoffensive.

This bar / restaurant is intensely bland, if you pardon the oxymoron. It needs to decide what it wants to be, indeed this applies to the whole chain. If it wants to be a restaurant, it needs to deliver better service and better food. If it wants to be a bar, it needs some atmosphere. Caught in No Man's Land between the two, it's just dull, dull, dull.
