Reminds me of a German Bier Keller in the fact that you go downstairs into a large room with rows of wooden tables & a bar at the end. Its actually a very large place with 3 seperate rooms & one can be closed for private functions. The food is superb quality home cooked served buffet style with a large & varied menu to chose from. Great choice of local beers. Betwixt - Sunlight, Cains - Bitter, George Wright - Cheeky Pheasant & Brimstage - Trapper's Hat as well as continental lagers. Good mix of people but mainly students. I can highly recommend this place.

Had an OK pint of Cains Bitter here (though not a fan of their bitter per se). Buzzing atmosphere and very handy to go to just after midnight on a Friday night.

Unexpectedly brilliant bar that despite its setting (the basement of the Everyman Theatre) is an unpretentious welcoming bar that attracts one of the most wide-ranging clinetele of all the pubs and bars in the city. Great range of real ales that regularly change (though Taylor's Landlord seems to be on everytime I go in there). I seem to remember Hoegaarden on tap as well. Never eaten in here but the menu looks more appetising and hearty than most.

We had lunch here whilst killing a few hours in between arriving at John Lennon and catching a train from Lime Street.
Lots of grub to choose from, the quality of which was ok; though the cheesecake for pud was outstanding!
Plenty of real ale to choose from - if memory serves we went for Cains' Bitter which was excellent.

love the food love the atmosphere - love everything about it!

Decent place, nice wide-range of beers, and as mentioned nice food. However you will struggle to get a seat / table on Thursdays, Friday, Saturday or Sunday unless you camp there the night before! I`ve always ended up standing.

Decent foreign lagers on draught (Used to have a Hoegaarden-now I`ve moved on... )... Usually have a pit stop here as the food is spot on(good selection of food from a servery)...Usually a late 20`s /early 30`s agegroup.

I really like it in here. Further to previous comments, this place has a chilled atmosphere and less annoyances than one may expect further down Hardman Street.
Often a long queue for the bar mind.

Used to try and hang around in here when I was underage, because I thought that this place was painfully bohemian and arty. I still feel that way when I go in there now, over 10 years later. Nice, unpretentious decor, decent beer and a fairly intellectual crowd (students, theatre goers etc). A great place to finish a night off quietly, after everywhere else decent has shut.

Late night drinking without wailing music and all the shit.
Underneath the Everyman Theatre (no disabled access), this bar has been an institution for over 30 years. Don't know if it's food is still renowned, but it's relatively cheap and it's always busy early in the evening. Food is sourced locally and delivered daily. Has 3 rooms, though one only opens when it is busy.
Usually has about four ales, including Cains, and usually Landlord and Black Sheep, and a few continental beers, and an impressive wine list.
This place used to be the trendy place years ago before Bar Culture took off but now it is a relaxed unpretentious place, open until midnight Mon - Wed, 1am on Thurs, and 2am on Fri and Sat, it's the best place to go for a late drink and conversation. It can get very busy at weekends and you may have to queue after normal pubs close.
I ended up moving into Liverpool City Centre just so that I could go to this place every night.
