Planning permission sought from LBWF to build a TESCO EXPRESS. Bound to be granted as they are 'bolting-on' some flats on it as a 'sweetener'...You should have seen what TESCO's had to do in Dorchester, Dorset - build a new ground next door to their superstore for the local football club !

It will a Tesco by this time next year. I've seen the literature that was circulated to local residents.

According to the current 'Tap Room' publication
''The Essex Arms in Walthamstow has been sold for "alternative use" giving Enterprise a tidy 1m profit on the 1.9m sale.''

Yes, It has certainly been closed down. It really needs to be taken over by someone who can liven it up. Walthamstow needs more entertainment venues.

If the news of it being boarded up are true, hooray !!
It was a drug den and full of people who think they are something special.

An absolute gem. This unspolit pub has survived against all odds. The real ale is as good as it gets bennefitting from the loving care of one of the country's leading cellar masters. The home cooked food is on a par with the capital's better known gastropubs - Moules Marinier to die for. The friendly bar staff will happily guide you through the menu and advise on the most appropriate accompanying tipple. Cheery locals complete what is a very pleasurable experience. A "must do" whenever in the London area.

I haven't been in the Essex Arms for a few years now, despite it being my nearest pub. The first and last time I did go there, the music was at Armageddon volume - so loud it was difficult to breathe, let alone think. The locals weren't exactly friendly either - a geezer who bore a remarkable resemblance to 70s wrestler Giant Haystacks stood there for 15 minutes shouting at us and making threatening gestures (luckily we couldn't hear him due to the aforementioned music) and surly teenagers skulked menacingly in the pool room. In their favour they do put on a lot of events, often centred around the major sporting occasions, and when walking past it, it generally seems pretty busy, with a stereotypically "Essex" clientelle.
