I was slightly disappointed with this pub, very small car-park and not very interesting selection of ales - Flack Manor's Double Drop (very insipid if you ask me) and a couple from Ringwood (Wolverhampton and Dudley/Marstons). Friendly barman though!!!

Maybe not the most inviting looking pub inside or out, but that is what most 'drinkers' pubs are like.
Perhaps a bit of a spruce up inside would not go amiss.
The landlord did seem a bit quiet but once we got chatting about real ale he was quite enthusiastic.
He knew what he liked and didn't like when it came to certain beers (at last, someone else not keen on Doombar).
His ale was in good condition. Tomcat; packed with hops. Nova Foresta - brewed next door - a hoppy amber bitter, plus one or two Ringwood regulars.
Good beer over a spring clean anyday.

Did not enjoy my time here at all, the bloke behind the bar was miserable and quiet, locals were loud and not pleasant to be around, we went for the food as we fancied Thai, the Thai waitress was lovely but the food wasn't great, I'm quite an avid eater of good eggs and I can be 99% sure that they were not free range used in the meal. Overall I'd suggest going to the Red Lion in Milford on Sea rather than waste a few hours in this standard place. Just a quick look at the website confirms it isn't great. Poorly designed and cheaply made.

Popped in early Saturday evening after visiting Beauliea Motor Museum earlier. Pub is split into two distinct bars but one has been made into a Thai restaurant. The Thai food was excellent but a word of warning, if you can't point at the meal you want off the menu you'd best tel the Landlord your order so he can tell the chef-cum-waiter who speaks no english. While here I tried Nottingham - Legend and Milestone - American Pale guest ales and both were very good. The only downside was the locals in the other bar could be heard swearing which is not nice while having a family meal.

I couldn't work it out. Maybe I should have had some Thai food, but I wasn't hungry enough. The beer was in good condition and there is an old-school pub atmosphere in here. It just needs to be made a little more inviting somehow...

Just a note to say pub signs have now been replaced with new hand painted ones. These add to the pubs country character and charm. depicting a cart wheel and not a ships wheel.

Outside make-over coming soon

I have to agree with forcam. To be honest i'm not a great beer drinker but I do like to go and have a couple with friends and eat out. I don't bother to look at the surroundings so much as is it clean? is the service good? what was the food like? etc.
The thing is the locals don't seem to have discovcered the Thai food here. Cooked to perfection, served with a smile and nothing was a great trouble. All served hot and I'd recommend the Trout. You'd think that out of 8 people there would be some complaint. No all were satisfied and full.
Three course meal including drinks for 8 persons approximately 23-00 per head.
God I was at a 4 star near Norwich a couple of weeks back and 2 bottles of wine cost 64-00!!!
So do you post this and tell the world just how good it is?
Of course, they deserve it.
Thanks for the start of a beautiful relationship. Be back soon

We spent ages last week trying to find a pub that supplied a meal in the afternoon and were very lucky to hit on this one eventually! I live in London, but this is the best Thai food I have ever eaten, obviously very authentic as cooked by a Thai chef, and incredibly reasonable. A very helpful and friendly landlord, superb service and a lovely atmosphere makes this a pub I will drive down from London again just to consume a little Thai heaven!

Popped in here whilst out cycling. It was very quiet but was a Wednesday mid afternoon. The beer was very welcoming from Bowmans and in good condition. The pub sign desperately needs renewing. If I been in a car I may have driven past thinking the pub had closed, but being on a bike paid closer attention.

Disapointing really. Popped in for a pint last night & was met by the usual unenthused welcome. "Good Atmosphere" is written on the outside???

Beer is good though, real ales a plenty. Food is a real let down. Cheap pre-bought in burgers etc, nice photographs. Not what you would expect from a Forest Pub with a great farming community & fishing industry on its doorstep.

Dull dull & duller, just like its Knackered Wheel Inn sign

What a feast of local ales is being offered here. Now a LocAle establishment accredited by CAMRA. Bowmans Nutz and Goddards Special have flown out of the door recently. Always two rapidly changing guest ales now on, not usually seen or served anywhere else near the place. Ale is always served in top condition. May is Mild Month - I await with anticipation! Open all day (including breakfasts!) and there is a bus back to Lymington at 23.45!

A welcome and rare traditional two bar pub with a proper landlady and landlord bravely progressing in an awful economic climate for the country pub trade. Not a poncy gastropub but serves generously portioned and good value meals for all tastes. Real ale always includes an unusual guest for area. Currently Altons Pride, Champion Beer of Britain GBBF 2008. Ale quality second to none and not overpriced. Mixed and friendly clientele. On live wire music circuit on Friday nights. Takes opening hours freedom seriously. Single TV used sparingly and unobtrusively. A gem worth travelling to for a relaxing time.

For a while under "Pips" stewardship The wheel really was an excellnet place, but once again a good Landloard moves on & the Wheel stops turning...
Now the Wheel is well on the way to becoming a "Sports Bar"! Garish advertising, big TV's on high volume tuned to the comedy channel coupled with shy
ude Landlords who will "get round to serving you when they fancy". All help to drive out us beer & food lovers. Atmospherically challenged?

This pub is now under new ownership, excellent beer & guest ales & lagers. Accoustic nights on a monday where all are welcome to join in. The virtual bowling on a friday is fun. Good pub grub and an excellent sunday roast. well worth a visit

For a pub in the New Forest I was surprised to find this one empty. Still went in. Food was good and home made but quite expensive considering the competition in the area.

sorry fuggle it couldn't have been this pub you were talking about, or a great bloke called pip. if that's what the rude landlord's name is, beer very average no welcome at all, avoid there is a lot better pubs locally

Best Pub in the Area ! This Pub has been Saved by a guy who`s reputation follows him. Landlord "Pip", founder of the Hobler (as it Used to be) IS BACK.
The Food from his kitchen is as good as it ever was, nothing short of consistantly Excellent. If anything, His Award Winning Chilli has got even Better ! The Sunday Roasts are Fantastic, Usually offering a choice of 3 different Meats, Top of the bill for me is the Sirloin of Beef, Served as it should be, RARE & cooked to perfection. Best Roast Beef in the New Forest without a doubt. Also, as it's Autumn at Present,The Wild Mushroom Soup is a Must Have. Simply, It's Soup_urb !!!
The Atmosphere is Vibrant, served with a Dash of Lunacy, fuelled by a good range of local real ales, Lagers, well chosen Wines & Spirits from the bar, continuously propped up by a good bunch of locals who feel it's in perpetual danger of falling over.
Live Music is Usally featured once a week on a Sunday Afternoon as well as occasional evenings too. Recently a Great Night was had by all when "The Plonkers"Tm, a legendary Argricultural Orchestra played to a packed house. A Bar Special was Layed on for this event in the form of a barrel of Local 7.9% Cider which kept the idiot sticks rattling all night long.
I Can't say enough about this Pub. After Years of being a White Elephant, The Wheel Inn has now TRULY ARRIVED. It's Fun, Friendly & Tastefull whilst still remaining tradtional. The Food is prepared with love & ALWAYS EXCELLENT with an inavotive & ever changing Menu. This place is well worth a visit & Many will travel for Miles to Dine here. As I said above,, Pips Reputation Follows him, so Give the Wheel a spin, You Won't be disappointed.

Glory be - it has changed hands again - the Hobler man has it. Exceptional place now - real zingy feeling. It's a wheel pub, with a wheel landlord, serving wheel beer.

Wheel Inn has been one of those pubs that has never quite done it. Used it when I first hit Lymington and it has changed hands regulalrly since then. Currently not a bad offer. Food in restaurant is good, beer is great and atmosphere is growing on me.
