This pub was the latest chosen for our bi-monthly London outing. A new venue for most of us. On arrival at 5.30PM the place was completely jammed with city suits, both inside and outside. However saying that we managed to get served quite quickly by the efficient bar staff, who seemed up to the early evening challenge. As said below standard Greene King fair with the ubiquitous IPA and Speckled Hen. However last night there was a hand pump for something called Bonkers Conkers ( which this morning I’ve managed to establish is Greene King’s new seasonal brew, launched this month after it went down well at the Great British Beer Festival. ).
Pleasant enough pint with a slight nutty flavour that the name implies. But at 4.1% probably not the ideal session beer, going by the thickness of my head this morning. But as the IPA ran out halfway through the evening there was no choice but to stay on the Bonkers Conkers. This lead to some surreal conversations on the subject of if you only want a half, do you ask for a Bonkers or a Conkers ?.
Anyway back to the pub. Kind of three room set up with a small central bar area and then a larger lounge room off to the side, and then a large area downstairs where the bogs are, which now has leather seats in instead of the once pool tables mentioned by previous reviewers. I guess the additional seating area downstairs was put in because the lounge area is rented out for private functions (as it was last night) and when this happens the very nice outside courtyard area, ( especially when you have a pleasant autumnal evening ) has to take the strain.
All in all pleasant enough pub and the beer was kept well.

Visited Friday lunchtime. Looks like Greene King, although, fortunately, the pub sign hasn't been forsaken in place of the GK bloke. The pool tables seem to have vanished in favour of a few tables and sofas downstairs. IPA, Abbott & Specky Hen on + usual range of lagers. Reasonable condition.
Not a bad pub, I've got to say, but wouldn't put it any better than high-middling.

Fairly decent for a City pub. Pool room with two tables downstairs, quite a small bar area and another larger lounge room which can be booked for private functions (a pain for other pub-goers when it is, though). Decent patio area outside. Nothing overly special but worth a passing visit.

Surprised this pub went through the whole of 2006 without a review because it's always busy at lunchtimes and after work, although its not the biggest of pubs. Courtyard outside (in the photo) is very pleasant in the summer and at the moment it has a marquee-type thing round it with heaters so it's fine to sit in now. American pool tables downstairs and a good value menu make it worth a visit. Entrance is through a passageway from Creechurch Lane.
City boy count (ie over-dressed, over-loud, under-interesting losers, not just people that work in the City): fairly low by comparison to other pubs around.

Very good pub, plenty of room, friendly staff, jukebox and pool tables, could do with some hot bar staff though.

Fantastic pub with friendly staff (ask for Phil).
Makes a nice change from the usual wine bars you find in the city.
