user reviews of Nancy's, Pall Mall

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

People here seem to be awfully harsh about this pub. It may be a little pricey, but it's right by Trafalgar Square. I think it's a rather pleasant place - beer's been good whenever I've been in, the landlord and landlady are nice, not too crowded. It's a good place to stop off for a drink when you're in the area, IMHO.

Ouch, miaoowww

To be fair you do have worse pubs in the area - the Sports Bar and the P&P - and the readers of this web-site all seem to agree on scores for this and the other two. Perhaps there should be a cold souless beer in the evening web site for others.

As for doubles - I guessed the round would be about 15 and was shocked when I was asked for over twenty - the spirit was just judged by eye so could have been single, double or whatever.

But I will have to look in again so you may even get some humble pie.

This pub is not closed rather renamed as Nancy's. And why not? The previous owners tarnished the name. Here we have a gem: charming and passionate individuals trying to do something different and special, namely entertaining through good quality alcohol and good music and company. The clientel may not be bearded camra devotes, but the ale and wine is top notch and diverse. The landlord may not have a bloated nose and drooping gut but he knows his stuff and is a pleasure to meet. After a few visits everyone know's your name or makes the effort too. This is a new concept, blending old fashioned good-ol-local charms with a classy outlook.

Baggy David.

They may serve doubles without asking; that's because they are NICE. What fool criticises a pub for selling doubles? Were you offended by the fact that the bar staff were attractive and well dressed? The price of a pint is less than most SW postcodes. Flat bitter at lager temperature with no head? Bitter has no head. Unless the stars really did collide, flat and cold is hard to come by. And 'suprisingly empty' at lunch? That's no crime.

Went there a few years ago and it was baaadddd. Gave it another try on Friday, and it was even worse.
Surprisingly empty at lunchtime, crowded in the evening but only one member of staff on at both times.

Was shocked at the price of a round, as they had given doubles (unmetered) without confirming. Ho ho weights and measures he we come.

But the biggest crime was selling flat bitter, at the temperature of lager, with no head (not that it could have held one anyway).

Sorry nothing good to say about this place. Harp and the Ship and Shovel are less than ten minutes away, go to one of these places, or anywhere down Whitehall, or anywhere else full stop.

Now called "Nancy's" and seems confused about what it's trying to be...somehow it doesn't quite work. Plus points were very friendly and nice barman, negatives were the extortionate prices (4.65 for a small glass of wine), faceless decor and inane quotes on the walls.

All the previous reviews were completely correct, to the point that even the landlord agreed... so he sold up. It's now UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.

They've got decent beer (Becks, Star, Leffe, Guinness and a couple of cask ales), good food and are trying to create a bit of atmosphere - give it a try and see what you think.

One of those nice pubs that has sadly lost its charm and ended up as the last place to pop into for a pint. Shame as it was one of the better ones around.

Bloody horrible. Feels like a backstreet khazi in the middle of nowhere rather than a pub within sight of Trafalgar Square, which is quite amazing really. Perhaps it could be a Life on Mars theme boozer. Looks like it was done up in 1973 and hasn't been touched since, the Guinness is horrible, and while the barman was a nice guy he didn't really seem sure of what he was doing.

Just think what this pub could be with a bit of love and affection... a sad, sad waste.

Barman poured a pint of John Smith's right to the brim. When I asked for a head to be put on it I was told "Sorry, I can't cos it's not fizzy like lager". Nuff said. Avoid.

we call this pub the crack den, but that probably makes it sound interesting.

its just a really rubbish, badly maintained, overpriced (i paid 6:80 for 1x pint of san miguel and a bud last night). rubbish decoration, barflies, unfriendly. you name it this pub has it.

One of the rudest barmen i have ever come across in my life. I should have walked out without paying for our drinks but i am too polite. Unlike him. Will definitely not return.

It's OK. Nothing special. Had Brakespears and London Pride on which were being well looked after by the Saffer barman and were pretty good. Lots of Japanese people drinking Guinness, perhaps suggesting it gets quite touristy during the day.

This place is either great (unspoilt, never changes) or bad (they don't seem to care much) depending on your point of view. I used to work nearby in 1990. It was convenient for me back then and I seem to recall it did a decent pint of Ruddles County. No cheesey themes, reasonably bog-standard honest boozer. Found myself back there recently and in fifteen years, not changed one iota as far as I could see. But maybe I have changed. Dingy, Victoriana and carpet your feet stick to doesn't appeal so much now. Stroppy Scottish Queen serving behind the bar was comical, but the beer was not good and the day we were in was marred by some oboxious and loud City trader types.
