The pub (sic) is now boarded up and it is now a deceased parrot.

Someone has finally decided to do the decent thing and bring the curtain down on R&P Camden. Last day party on the 31st May. I'll be celebrating somewhere else.

Nothing good to say about this pub. Even leaving it isn't any fun as there's always a couple of chavs outside (in all weathers) who stare at you looking for 'bovva'. Gaylords.

No fair to pick on the poor old R&P. It's a chain pub and thus intrinsically aesthetically disgusting (also the comedy name is presumably attracting some opprobrium), but if it was anywhere other than Camden, you would not object to it. Gorgeous old (I think 1920s) frontage of the "Camden Stores" which will come in handy when the R&P chain realises it is no longer the 1990s and debrands. Plenty of seats, sensible central bar layout and outside tables. I can name five worse alcopoppy, Burberryed-up pubs in Camden off the top of my head. The Ice House, Oh! Bar, the Hog's Head, Belushi's. Oh well, only four then. Hang on, the Buck's Head is probably at least a tie.

In all seriousness, I don't understand why anyone would regard this as the worst place in the world unless they're prepared to say the same thing about the World's End which is really the same kind of townie hole with a thin layer of Goth dust on it.

considering it was a friday this pub was not too crowded, real ales were rather indifferent and the music seemed to be cranked up a notch every 15 mins or so - well it is a characterless chain pub - so is to be expcected i suppose - quite average overall.

Limited seating and we had to wait quite a while for a table as we wanted to eat. (Big sofas with 1 person hogging one to herself).Eventually we had to settle for a table in the non-smoking area (there are always empty wasted tables in these sections). My partner ordered steak from the very limited menu - no steak.... I had the spicy beanburger - uninspiring offer for veggies as always - this had been deep fried to a crisp. Homemade chips were a pleasant surprise though. There just wasn't enough seating and the bar itself could easily have been greatly reduced in size so that it could accommodate a few more customers. Nice pub though and nice atmosphere though I doubt we'll be back due to limitations of seating and menu. Staff were very polite - but please don't call female customers madam - I hate that.

One Sunday I decided to have a Camden pub crawl comprised of pubs I rarely or never go to. I even managed to go to the horrible NW1 across the road, but once I walked into this one I had to admit defeat and live the life of a broken man.

I guess it will be between this one and the Belushi's on Camden High St for the last Camden pub for me to visit for the first time.

I can't imagine why anyone would choose to drink here unless they are checking out pubs you haven't been to for ages. The carpet is mind-boggling. The one rating is for the nice sofa I sat on.
