please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

is it not possible for the site owners to start culling some of these places? honestly, this hasn't been open for five years!

elsiepop, I agree that the Oakdale is a fantastic pub. But hardly walking distance from Wood Green!
dpv - 12 May 2008 17:13
Take a walk down St Anns Road and turn right into Hermitage Road and find the Oakdale Arms.......... the only decent pub in the area.
elsiepop - 27 Apr 2008 19:22
Now Closed Down signs taken down & place emptied of furniture & fittings. Now all there excustomers will all go into the wetherspoons which will make that even worse if thats possible.
Alesonly - 30 Mar 2008 23:44
I heard yesterday that it's been closed. No great loss but another pub gone in the area - there won't be any left soon!

These are all gone now:
The Litten Tree
The Nightingale
O'Rafferty's (formerly The Fishmongers)
The Freemasons

and O'Connor's freehouse in Palmers Green

No big deal about some of them as they'd become rundown but when is someone going to open a decent pub in this area????
elllie - 29 Mar 2008 17:10
I would have to agree with everyone else its the Pits of society. Its always full of Piss Heads & rowdy young Lager drinkers especially at weekends.
anonymous - 22 Mar 2008 19:25
Awful. They must have the same recruiting policy as the equally crud Weatherspoons next door- you'll be hard pushed to find ruder and more disinterested staff. This includes the door man-
Don't go here, not even for 1, life is too short
London28 - 21 Mar 2008 20:07
If your over 21 do yourself favour go elsewhere This crap-hole is even worse than that Wetherspoons next door and thats saying something. Always full of the dregs of society. Its absolute dismal.

Third recent visit where we popped in for a few drinks and a bite to eat and third consecutive visit where the "chef" has decided to bugger off early despite us checking what time food is served before we ordered our drinks. Hopefully it wil close down soon and some other enterprising pub will take over with decent food which is exaclty what this area needs. Wood Green is such a run down chavvy dump - and it's getting worse - if that's possible!
elllie - 22 Dec 2007 21:37
Do people ever drink in this place? Its a dump. Plastic atmosphere, typical of the pub chains that are ruining the traditional English pub.
Cockney_Hammer - 28 Jul 2007 17:26
Not too bad for a couple of pints on a Saturday afternoon having braved the shopping crowds. Much better than the bloody awful Wetherspoon's and the Goose. I do agree with previous comments about pulling the whole place down and starting again. It could be such a successful corner if someone put their thinking head on and designed it to keep the troublemakers away. The constant police presence just about says it all, doesn't it?
elllie - 26 May 2007 00:24
Agree with the view about knocking the whole complex down. This place, wetherspoons and the awful club in between are hell on earth. If this is the future of British pubs, i'm moving to Australia A.S.A.P!

Why oh why do these places excist!!!!

another shithole of a place in wood green, rude staff, customers and aggressive bouncers avoid at all costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gibbo69 - 22 Oct 2006 21:23
What a horrible atmosphere... the bar staff are rubbish but who can blame them i didn't hear one person say please or thankyou and it was hard to even see a smile in a bar so full of arrogant jumped up people with chips on their shoulders. No wonder the bar staff can't be bothered. The food was pretty sad as well. I actually saw a bouncer beat up a young lad outside that was too drunk to stand and threaten to stab him later that night as well.
anonymous - 9 Oct 2006 17:59
Do us all a favour and close this bar imediatly! In fact close the whole hollywood green complex and bulldoze it to the ground. Burn baby, burn!!
anonymous - 8 Oct 2006 07:46
Amazing that they spend all this money on redoing the place but still employ the same scummy staff who don't know what a cloth or a clean ashtray look like. CLOSE IT DOWN FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND!
anonymous - 10 Mar 2006 01:30
Total Hell. Avoid at all costs.

Was dragged in to meet some people, but just witnessed everything you see on those Sky documentaries about binge drinking; only worse.
adamsant - 9 Jan 2006 18:43
This pub has rude workers. The food is also not as 'delicous' as they claim on the menu.and they dont serve you what you order from the menu. The table are always sticky and full of others peoples mess. The worst time to come to Yates is during lunchtime, you get treated like SHIT.
anonymous - 2 Jan 2006 22:41
AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!
Imagine if you will the bar of your nightmares, where you are forced to stand shoulder to shoulder with noisy brain-dead ne'er-do-wells who can't handle their alchopops or strong lager(for those who are desperate to prove how macho they are) with slow and disintersted bar staff, naff warm drinks at dearer than you may have been lead to believe prices. Now soundtrack this with overly loud top 40 urban music that negates the possibility of any conversation and drowns out the screams of the damned. Got that image in your head?
This is much, much worse than that.
Mr.Monkfish - 12 Oct 2005 10:08
Ellie your absolutely correct, Wood Green is CHAV CITY. Sometimes when i'm waiting for a bus in the high road i cant see the number of the aproaching bus cos of bouncing Burberry baseball caps coming down the road. Dont even bother with any pubs in the area other than the Nelson & the Gate up Station Road!!
anonymous - 12 May 2005 09:46
Hard pushed to find chavs in Wood Green? You are joking!!! lol! The place is overrun with them!
elllie - 4 Apr 2005 22:18
In response to "tuppence". Sorry but I'm going to have to disagree on several points. To judge a unit from a bus stand I find unfair. You would be hard pushed to find any chav's in WG let alone in Yates's which is also not a wine bar as their company stopped using that logo a few years back. I go in there most weekends & although it does have younger people in there I personally would say the average age is over 25. I also have to wait for a bus to get home & the "teenagers vomiting in the gutter" you will find are generally from Chicago's/Shout whatever it is these days. Thursday's are great for Karaoke, Friday & Saturday night music varies but I've found to be pretty good for all ages. The bar staff are always having a laugh & are friendly & smiley (another suprise for WG). I think you should give the place a chance, if nothing else at least go in there.....
anonymous - 23 Mar 2005 15:28
Yates at Wood Green eh! Mmmm, what can i say other than "TEENAGERS IN DRUNKEN RUMPUS SHOCKER" Need i say more!!
ganger - 7 Mar 2005 14:47
This place is the 8th circle of Hell. Standing waiting for the bus, this is the place to see paralytically drunk teen chavs spilling out onto the street at closing time, vomiting in the gutter and getting into fights. Every single weekend.'Wine Lodge'? Blue WKD Lodge more like.
tuppence - 2 Mar 2005 17:06
It always seems to run out of everything early evening, also always under staffed. that said, staff are polite, efficiant and friendly.Unlike the other cheap chain pub 3 doors down!
sean - 28 Jul 2004 13:24
Since I wrote my last comment (17 May 2004), Yates' has had a facelift. Newly decorated with screens, more lighting, new seating, and more importantly, stocked with alcohol, it's much more of a pleasure to visit. Staff always doing the rounds collecting glasses and ashtrays. If you must stick to Wood Green for a drink, Yates' is probably one of the better choices.
anonymous - 31 May 2004 21:08
Always out of drinks. The last few times I have been, their has been no beer and hardly any spirits. Not very impressive. Very small but the bar staff are generally very smiley and friendly.
anonymous - 17 May 2004 23:39
This is located in the Metroplex centre, a little bit of everything that's wrong with this world in one building. Awful
