Not much I can add to the previous review. All tables have "reserved" signs on them but, at nearly 9pm tonight, we were allowed to sit at one for drinks only - the Hobsons Best was in excellent condition. The pub itself is 17th century, low beams, terracotta colour walls, open fires and congenial. The beer garden with its breeze house looked as if it could be spectacular in the summer.

This place is more of a restaurant than a pub. Every table was taken or reserved for diners, leaving only a couple of stools at the bar for drinkers. The bar staff are trained to ask if you are dining there, when they take your drinks order. Of course, you can't blame pubs for taking this direction. But I do find it annoying. The pub itself is in a nice Avonside village and the denizens are from the middle-upper classes. 4 ales were on - Purity Ubu & Pure Gold, Hobsons Best & Adnams Lighthouse. It's still a nice place and I would imagine that the atmosphere would feel far more like a pub on a weekday.

Agree with previous; it does appear to mostly cater for the food trade but the beer I had was good (Hook Norton, Hooky Best) BUT 0-95 for a bag of crisps!
Thanks but no thanks. Shame as nice building and the proper food looked good if a little expensive (for my budget)

I've known this place for near enough 20 years. Now, more of a gastropub than a pub pub but beer is consistently good and great choice from Hobsons, Purity Brewery (Ubu & Gold), Flowers, Hook Norton amongst others. Food is great if you want to eat. If there was a more spacious bar area for drinkers as opposed to diners then this would almost be the perfect pub.

The sort of pub a tourist will like and a local hate. Not a great place for a pint, but a good place for a pint and a meal.

Located just down from the Maypole, this lovely little country pub always pours a good pint and serves great food.

I would recomend this pub as a good place to go for a drink and a meal with friends. Its not so well suited for the 'prop up the bar types!'
