Lease expired and Greene King not bothering to renew it, so this place ceased trading on 9th of April. No great loss.

A traditional pub just off Baths main shopping street, that in spite of this seems to be bypassed by the hordes of tourists even on a busy Saturday afternoon, and was populated by a collection of locals who mostly seemed to know each other. Predominantly the clientele seemed to be old boys although there were a few others characters as well.

The interior is somewhat down at heel and quite traditional, with black beams on the ceiling, mostly carpeting on the floor with a little wood around the bar area, and the paintwork was a mixture of cream, salmon, mustard and burgundy. A section of exposed stone wall on the left appeared to contain the remnants of an old fire-place, with just part of the original mantelpiece being visible in amongst the stonework. Sport seems to feature predominantly here, and I counted no less than four plasma screens as well as an old TV dotted around what is a fairly small pub. Rugby appears to be the main theme here, and there were numerous notices displaying the months matches that would be screened. On previous occasions its been quite packed when walking past, but this time it was rather quiet. Perhaps there were no major fixtures on at that time.

The menu proclaimed that they did The best food in town but with prices for most of the main courses appearing to be somewhere in the 3 - 5 price bracket, Im inclined to treat that with a degree of scepticism. Choice wise, it looked to be extensive and was divided in to sections such as Pub favourites, Grills, Burgers, Wraps, etc. Tables were a little squashed in to the point that it was actually quite difficult to get in and out many of the chairs due to adjacent chairs and tables being in the way.

Beers on tap were an unusual choice with Stonehenge Autumn Envy, Okells Aile and Inveralmonds Lia Fail. The ciders were Blackthorn and Strongbow.

Dont go there if your depressed i did and came out feeling ten times worse. If it was a dog it would be put down.

More expensive than what I said in my last post and they've got new management. If you want a cheapish no thrills pub that shows Sky Sports and Setanta then visit! I wouldn't stay after 9pm though!

Not sure how best to describe this place, cheap and cheerful or rough and ready. Still, not a bad place to pop into for a pint. Plenty of TVs to watch sport in, tho it's quite narrow.

The Grapes is Grate!! 2.15 for a pint of Fosters, they always show the Liverpool football games (Kev the landlord supports them), food is cheap, always lively, very nice toilets, some of the female bar staff need to cheer up though!

This pub is beautifully traditional. It is a must see for people visiting the Bath area. The staff are friendly and very informal. The food was cheap.... But surprisingly really good food especially at that price. It's a Bath city centre pub with student and everyday prices. They also celebrate events such as St. George's day etc. Its like your local in the centre of town. What you see is what you get. I loved this pub because there is always a "knees up" atmosphere. I felt safe and so do numerous other students and your average Joe who I saw drinking in there. Will go back again when in Bath next! Cheap and very cheerful

A little bit grubby, but the beer was well kept. Limited choice - Bombardier and something else (IPA or similar).

Never sampled the food, but it looks too cheap to be any good. Disappointingly normally only one proper beer on (Courage and occasionally a special Courage), and its really smoky at the moment but of course that will change soon. However it does have alot of character despite the cheap posters up, and is a good place to watch the football or rugby. Relatively cheap for Bath as well.

had a meal in the afternoon here, a very very cheap meal which i admit i feared the worst - however it was superb. full marks - a good no-nonsense pub.

I think this pub is a bit of a gem - the food is very cheap, but i felt the quality was pretty good.

This pub is absolutely rubbish, it smells has filthy toilets and the food looks like it's been grown on a petri dish. Avoid like the plague (which is currently being cultured on the filthy glasses) shame as the building is a winner and the place could be great. PS if you want to watch football stay at home or buy a ticket to a match instead of ruining everybody else afternoon.
