user reviews of the Ship, Farnborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Went in here recently and discovered a good pint and friendly atmosphere. But on further inspection you can see the pub is in need of major TLC. Current tenants have done a lot but the real money needs to be spent by the owners. Unfortunately it is no longer doing food as the kitchen has been closed (there is some of the investment needed) Why do I get the feeling this is another pub company just biding their time until Tesco makes them a good enough offer. What a shame these pubs never get offered to the tenants to buy and keep as a pub.

Three yrs ago I left the house, a gastro pub in Islington north London, my executive chef was pushing me to go for a Michelin star, he came up under Ramsey, the house is owned by the Meridith group who also have the running footman in Mayfair, I was disillusioned by the pretentiousness and sought my own ambitions which have led. ME here via. Brixton where I set up a food operation with an old friend. And now to Farnborough where the air is clean and the county is rich with quality produce that I intend to make good use of, early days yet thanks for all your great comments I will endeavour to put my passion for food on to plenty more plates yet xxx

My user name is red4929 and my real name is Angie Blight if you would like to know, and this is our local pub. The site wants real honest comments and thats what I have given. You just use this site to spread nastness, and personal abuse All of your comments history are very much alike and you are not doing this site any justice, If we as locals dare to put our comments on, you attack. Im sure the site will be looking into your history of comments.

Had a lovely meal at the ship yesterday, carvery was excellent, i had venison which I can honestly say was the best iv ever had, The wine was served in a lovely long stemmed glass and went down very well. The pub was packed everyone having a good time and all very friendly as usual. The pub was nice and clean, ladies toilets spotless with nice handwash.Good music, and the football on for those who wish to see the game. Keep up the good work !!!

Being a biker and the ship being a biker friendly pub i have been frequenting the ship for about 2 months now.
The staff i have found to be very friendly and the new managment are very approchable and very open to suggestions.
The food goes well beyond normal pub food and I have sampled a couple of meals that have more than satisfied me I will be using the pub more often and am probably going to make it my local.
I have lived in the area for 40+years and this year is the first time I have been in the pub l am very impressed
I will have no problem telling friends who now also drink here how good the ship is
Shaun Simmons a very satisfied customer

Little fed up with all the trash about this pub, as a regular user for the last three years, I don't like to go anywhere else!!
I have been always been met by freindly staff, whether they were the landlords or ladies !!
The locals are very welcoming to all and endeavour to be inclusive with all and sundry. Somewhere you do not have to look over your shoulder, somewhere to take all the family, real people who care about each other, a community!
The newest Landlord and Landlady Ben & Tracey are an excellent couple, as has already been stated Ben is a fab cook and Tracey an excellent host, they are a hands on couple with a honest and open approach.
Pop in and judge them and us for yourself x

Entertainment-excellent
standard of service-excellent

I have recently visited the ship inn as i have just moved to the local area as and found the atmosphere of the pub was great. The staff are verye friendly and made me feel like a regular customer. I will be recommending the pub to people. The standard of the food was way beyond the quality of average pub food but with extremely competitive prices. If this is what the pub is like after just a few weeks of hard work im sure it will the the gem of the town in no time at all.

I would like to say that the two comments that are negative from caskand ale and pissflap are not from anyone that knows this pub, just want to say nasty things grow up and get a life both of you

This pub has gone from strength to strength since Tracey & Ben have taken over. The pub caters to a broad spectrum of age age groups; therefore creating very much a local style community pub where all are welcome. If you want a pub quiz with a difference this is the place to go! Each week there is a variety of entertainment laid on which should meet all tastes.

Word of caution - this pub has probably some of the best food in the area and prices which are so competitive I wonder how they make their GP%! Tis to our good fortune and no need to go up the road and eat the pretend meat - Zebu from the big chains!!!!!

Us locals are lucky to get our local back after so many years of mismanagement so thanks to Tracey & Ben & may they stay with us for a long time

I would like to say that since April 2012, this pub has been under new management, Ben and Tracey have really worked hard to get this pub back to a really good pub, they are friendly and will welcome everyone, Ben is a fantastic chef, and Tracey runs the bar with her cheerful staff. They have put their own stamp on this pub, its always welcoming and friendly, with great wine and good beer. The food is fantastic and good value for money. They have free pasta meal on Monday nights if you but a bottle of wine you get two meals free. they have regular live music on friday nights and they do the best sunday carvery I have ever had.
If your thinking about visiting go for it you wont regret it.

This pub got itself a bad reputation for having rude staff, landlords and landladys but since the new couple have taken over it has become a very friendly place to visit.

Tracy (Landlady) is a warm and welcoming woman who makes it her mission to have a smile for whoever comes through the door.

Her partner is a chef who takes pride in everything he cooks, his food is superb, and I strongly advise trying the Sunday roast.

Gone are the days of the landlady shouting the odds to whomever she disliked, maybe because you supported the wrong football team or you asked if your steak could be cooked a certain way.

I would recommend this pub to anyone, whether you want to go out for a quiet drink, a meal or partake in one of the Disco or Karaoke nights.

A small pub with a local following.
It has jazz on the third Sunday of the month, but I would not go there for any thing else.

Nice place which serves decent food and decent beer at a decent price. Popular without usually being crowded, lively without being noisy.
