please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Been in a couple of times this year and haven't found it particuarly welcoming. Lager was a bit flat on both occasions, beer garden's scruffy. Needs a bit of TLC.

Was in edenbridge with friends after work on halloween night popped in for a drink. Saw they were serving food and had ham egg and chips, my friends had sausage and mash and scampi and chips. We saw that entertainment was happening that evening so decided to stay on longer. The ale was good tried the late red and my friend had the spitfire. They have a loyalty scheme in place of where you buy 10 pints and get your 11th free, brill Idea and seems to be popular with everyone. The atmosphere was great as people were all dressed up for halloween and the entertainment was brilliant and good fun, we were all up at one point singing and dancing, One of the best pubs in edenbridge will definitely be back whether for a quiet drink or more fun.

My Wife and I were walking down the Edenbridge High street this last Saturday just gone and looked in on this delightful pub. The fire was roaring, and welcoming - The Landlady Luce greeted us with a friendly smile and made us feel most comfortable. We ordered a Pint of Spitfire and a Coffee - which was no trouble to the Landlady as she was on her own, We ordered 2 warm Roast beef and horseradish Sandwiches and a side of chips, Again well presented and excellent and no trouble to Luce. She informed us that it had only been opened for the past 6 weeks and all I can say the way she made everyone feel welcome you'd have thought she'd have been there for years!! Excellent Job you're doing Luce keep up the good work and best of luck. We will be back with the family one sunday for one of your Roasts!!!

Well what a great makeover, new people and great beer, nice welcome and nibbles on the bar, went in on Friday and the whole place was clean and comfortable, people behind the bar were friendly and welcoming, great to see the place open again after a long time, had some Spitfire and was great, and stayed for a couple of pints, will be back for more, about time we had a nice local in the area at affordable prices, WELL DONE to the new owners.

This pub is currently closed but will be reopening soon under new management. We look forward to welcoming friends old and new in the near future.

During our 2 weeks in the UK, this was by far the best pub we visited. We loved the food, the ale and the lady who served our meal. We had an interesting conversation with her about the pub' s history and her own. We look forward to returning!

Unfriendly locals in Chav Central

You can spot them a mile away, HE... thin white pasty faced, fag hanging, baseball cap, tatty sportswear SHE...16, fat, pushing pram, bawling brats, has a fag and coke outside Three Cooks Bakery ( how come a bakery that doesn't sell bread !! ) then over the road to Post Office to collect child benefit, then a kebab and a jumbo bag of crisps as a salad from Tesco. This Edenbridge lot make the local pikeys look hollywood gliteratti.

The King & Queen is an OK pub in an otherwise depressing town.

Popped in while in Edenbridge. Ordered a Pinot Grigio wine, 1/2 Spitfire, and a small Lemonade. The price was 9.95. Bar staff seemed friendly, but talk about ripping off the tourists. Had thought of eating in here, but decided against it in case I might have to remortgage the house.

4 of us visited the pub on a Sunday afternoon. I was please to see how it had been renovated (I have not visited the pub in nearly 20 years) and liked the atmosphere. That is the good bit, the bad was the condition of the beer. All of us rejected the first beer selected Sheps St Georges day guest. The barmaid cheerfully changed the beers for others but they were no better and we left leaving most of our beers undrunk not wishing to create problems for the duty staff by rejecting yet more of the beer. It is such a shame that a basic as serving drinkable ale is so sadly lacking when so much appeared to be right

I spent last wend in edenbridge and The King and Queen is the best pub in town . I found all the barstaff exceptionally friendly and good fun . Dave the chef is a whiz in the kitchen and the food was amazing . We were made so welcome by staff and locals it was a pleasure to be there . The pub is lively with great music and a really happy atmosphere . Alec & Heather are frienely and wecoming , I would highly recommend this pub to anyone who wants a fun night out .

once again trouble in or outside the king and queen last sunday night! wouldn't of wanted to be sitting next to the window as it got smashed in! it's all very well saying don't read these negative comments below but you want be saying that when you walk out of the pub with your head split open! or if you lived near it and had to put up with noisey yobs outside it most nights!
yes as said before go to the king and queen during the day its safer! this pub lets edenbridge down it's the only pub that serves the crap in this town which then spills out onto the streets! its sad but the truth! and yeah go there for your self and see! as soon as that saying seems to be popular on this wall! give it up this pubs a dump and if you drink in it that says it all about you because i will never step foot back in this so-called pub again!

Excellent pub and well worth the visit, go there yourself, DO read all of this negative stuff, and then you will see how wrong they all are. I went here before under an old landlady, and you were looked at as if you didn't fit in their community before you walked in. These people in this town don't like outsiders, and its unfortunate that they see this friendly bar staff as outsiders. Go down there and make your own mind up, its got 'wifi 'so you can work on your laptop from the pub and enjoy a good drink and food. Its great for informal meetings and easy to get to.
I have been here in the daytime before for a meeting and it was relaxed and welcoming, I would definitely recommend this pub over most of the others in the area, its on my top ten for the area.

Seem like some of the reviewers are a bit tipsy and drinking in a pub of a similar name? This isn't the same pub I was in on Saturday Night, Great atmosphere and good pub food, cosy feel and the ale stopped my nose going red! My suggestion to these reviewers is keep going in there and you will force any riffraff out, I have been here on a weeknight and there is less people there, why don't you go for a drink that night, the pub will always be a bit wild on a Saturday night, as is any pub, and if it isn't it will close soon enough. Between you and me, Edenbridge needs a lively pub, as the whole place is like a ghostown at night, they must all be in bed by 9.30pm.
Much better than it used to be and the food is of excellent quality.
Can't wait for my return to this fantastic pub.

To "Governor" - that says it all , you are an ex pub landlord and probably went into this pub while people were enjoying themselves, you sound like the sort of landlord that takes people's money and order them how to behave in your pub, which is why you are an ex landlord. No one wants to part with cash to be told how to behave, you can do that 'Fawlty Towers' bar in wherever.Go and find an old git's pub where you mustn't speak or talk over the clock ticking mate!
This pub is friendly, lets you enjoy yourself without upsetting any other clientel and Alec is quick to bar you if you are out of order. I have heard that a lot of "oiks" are now out of there as they are on the "pub watch" register.
I say again, excellent food and good bar staff, and a traditional boozer, not some crappy sports bar that you can't hear yourself think, or wait hours to get served in. A credit to this area! Keep it up Bar Staff!

everyone in edenbridge seems to be talking about this pub at the moment because there has been trouble in it, i think the landlord needs to try a bit harder to get rid of the rifraf that is using this pub!
kimba - 16 Sep 2008 17:58
As an ex governor of a pub did not feel comfortable in the king and queen saturday evening, lots of men outside loud and rude, some I had banned from my own pub.

was in king and queen saturday lot of yobs around!

Went to edenbridge on saturday night to have a few pints, very disappointed lots of louts outside the pub shouting abuse at people walking bye bad karma inside the pub left as I thought there was going to be a row, went to eden it was a bit quiet but felt safe. Was in the pub a couple of weeks ago lot of footballers in there agains thought might have been a row, very upset as I used like using this pub, dont live in edenbridge but always popped over about twice a month.

After reading Henna 75 praisng the King and Queen went to have a look, seemed okay, there was only one person in the pub and there was no atmosphere, appreciate it was during the week and all pubs are quiet, but did not order food as the no one else was eating so cant comment on the food, the menu however did seem quite expensive. Did not find the barman friendly and he appeared a bit tipsy.
sheeba - 16 Sep 2008 15:52
The new landlord and landlady have certainly turned this pub around from the cliquey, almost 'members only' pub that it was.

the food is astounding - Dave is a genius in the kitchen. Maybe the food is a little pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for, no reheated/microwaved convenience foods, this is proper home cooked, amd most importantly, FRESH, food. (The Crown, take note....)

I have been singing this pubs' praises to all my friends.. Heather and Alec given the pub a welcoming aura, which had been sadly lacking for many years, and this is now my pub of choice in Edenbridge.

Top Beer garden too! Highly recommended!
Henna75 - 1 Sep 2008 22:16
Alec the landlord, is a smashing bloke and knows how to run a decent pub, the food is out of this world as the chef is properly trained and not some McDonald's throwback and cooks everthing fresh, he will even cater for Vegetarians if needed. I have paid 4 times as much in top restaurants in London and been disappointed, you have to come here and try the food. It has a lovely little beer garden, and the music is better than in most pubs.
The hand dryer in the gents was made for dwarves, but I suppose it would be good at drying the pubic hair if the need arose.....
All in all, one of the best little pubs I have been to in years....

The King and Queen is one of many pubs along the main high street in Edenbridge but easily the nicest to look at, with it's cottage-like appearance, it is a building full of character and rich in history.

The decor inside can only be described as typical olde-wolde - odd furniture, uneven floors and wooden beams on the ceiling. It's cosy and the leather sofas are very inviting, so much so that it would be dangerous to sit there after one too many ales!

Alec the Landlord is very friendly and larger-than-life, he greets all of this customers personally and makes sure that their every need is catered for. Dave, his friend of many years is employed as the chef and his wife Heather is the co-owner and always seems to be rushing around making sure everything is running smoothly.

There is a wide selection of beers and ales available and the food is all home-cooked and the portions generous. This pub has managed to keep its locals for many years as well as acquiring many new loyal customers.

Prices are very reasonable, especially for the food. I would recommend the King and Queen to anyone who likes nothing but to have a good time.

Popped in for a pint on Tuesday night and to see if the pub has changed since the last landlady, and couldn't believe how warm and welcoming the new landlord and landlady are! The food was recommended by a local in the town as well as they have a top cook in there now. So I booked for Sunday lunch and today took the 'in-laws' down. The food was outstanding and was swiftly served and was beautifully presented. Roast Pork with freshly made succulent stuffing balls and a medley of vegetables ,with freshly made yorkshire puddings (nicked one off the 'in-laws' plate - thumbs up). And freshly made apple crumble for afterwards. Add to that good wine and decent ales, this is going to second home for me with excellent food, good service, and decent ales, and an atmosphere that will relax you and make you feel special. Didnt have a pool table or dart board , but that makes it more attractive to most.

Absolutely top friendly service and the food......., felt like I was in a top restaurant when the food turned up. This pub has changed hands recently and not knowing how crap it was before, it certainly has got to be on the top pub food guide this year. Keep it up landlord, I will be a regular, good ales and good cheap food to die for!
Babybadger - 27 Apr 2008 17:02
I think the same 3 regulars as my only prev visit were sat obscuring the beer pumps again but they aint hostile and this Sheps pub had Spitfire, Materbrew, & Bishops Finger. Evidently popular locally and for food too, but am I alone in thinking that the phrase (for my Spitfire) "That's 2.90" is missing a word? I noted the same brevity (rudeness) with another customer, maybe he was an outsider too.

Lovely pub with top landlady who looks like shirley bassey. Also has the presence and appeal of a real star person. Good food and beer and an all round friendly pub
markatch - 6 Jul 2006 01:54
Popped in for a pint on Saturday evening.
Cosy enough pub with decent beer but impossible to escape from the 'club' music (playing way above background level) through various speakers dotted around.

Looking at the clientele, I couldn't figure out for whose benefit it was being played ???

campfire - 12 Jan 2006 11:53
Popular and atmospheric pub despite false beams. A true locals pub not minding kids playing cards and pool (with their parents) but still feeling like a proper pub.
Good value menu
