Not as upmarket as many of the pubs around Chiswick, which is no bad thing. Good range of Fullers Ales, but the service is a bit patchy. Getting for a receipt was a tricky affair and when they told me to return for it in 10 mins, I think they (wrongly) assumed I wouldn't bother.
However, there's lots of room and various nooks and crannies in which you can feel fairly cosy with your group.
I don't generally drink wine in a pub myself, but bought one for someone else and it was £4.35 for a 175ml glass. This struck me as expensive, but perhaps I'm out of date on that....

Upon my visit to the George IV I found 4 barmaids behind the bar. One was cleaning cutlery whilst another two were counting stock and the forth was having trouble using the till. After about four minutes of me standing there like a mug a local that was waiting for his whisky to be topped up lost his patience and shouted at them. A stunned barmaid approached and asked if I wanted anything. I asked for a half of Carling and was served a pint.
The usual lagers were available along with ESB, Pride, London Porter and Discovery. There was a very nice display of Pride bottles, cups and glasses behind the bar, but I wonder how long the punters had to wait to be served whilst it was erected.
It’s a very big pub with a patio garden and some seating outside at the front. At the back of the pub there are some stairs leading skywards which I think had more seating. There is a raised area at the front between the entrances with some tables and chairs at the windows. A bonus was that they do have a dart board.
Apart from the staff being oblivious to the customers I quite like this pub, even though £3.15 for a pint of Carling is a little dear.

Had a couple of good quality Fullers ales here last night with the lads after a game of football. Discovery & HSB were on form and enjoyed all round. Busy, but not overwhelming atmosphere.

Crap.Went to see a mates band in the back room on a Thursday night a while back - so far so good - only problem was the Big tosser Aussie barman who started coming around at 11:10pm snatching peoples (Full) pints that they had literally bought from HIM 5-10 minutes earlier and still LEGALLY had 10 minutes left to drink - he threatened one (Now very famous ) musician with violence for refusing to give up his pint - at which point someone who shall remane nameless stuck the nut on the Aussie Mug and he had his nose split open.A joyous occasion.

Fair selection of lagers (If overpriced) and a moderate selection of ales. The food has never disappointed, nor has it particularly excited. The staff, although polite, have never become in any way familiar despite many years of patronage. The pub does have a dartboard which is usually put to good use and is a redreshing change to the rest of Chiswick in which gastro pubs have all but killed off any kind of pub sports. The pub is popular and usually has a good atmosphere but it is to be avoided on a football night unless it is warm enough to make use of the beer garden or you are interested in seeing the game. However, the real strength of The George IV is its back room. This little gem, hidden away behind a set of double doors next to the toilets, plays host to a fantastic and good value comedy club that, every so often, attracts a big name comedian. There are also a couple of good monthly live music nights such as Wired on a thursday and Blue flowers on a sunday that always provide a good night and have hosted and continue to host some seriously talented acts such as Sam Beer, Laura Marling, Jamie T etc (all can be heard on myspace.com). All in all, one of the best pubs in chiswick. Choose the right night and you'll have a blast!

I always confuse this pub with the Packhorse & Talbot up the road. The George, however, is a little more refined, but only slightly, mind you. The George is a little darker and tighter, if that makes sense - rammed at the weekends. Seems to attract more of a Rugger crowd, and I've felt at least 17% more relaxed at a table here than at the P&T. But as far as Chiswick's concerned, the George and the Packhorse nearby are easily bettered.

Its a decent high street for boozing - Chiswick, and this is one of the better boozers here, decent size,...so easy to lose youself and kick back. As for the coke problem in the toilets,..thats a bit of a unfair accusation towards our soft drink guzzling brethren,..lets be evenhanded here,..i saw a geezer take a pint of Speckled Hen in there once,...And theres no mention of a fowl problem in the toliets is there! All im saying is,..lets keep it fair. Only joking a'course,...nah seriously i've a mate with a real coke problem,...he drinks that diet shit with the lemon already in it!

Nice pub, nice layout, nice menu, nice food, freindly efficient staff. Pity there is a TV in every corner showing sport, you can not escape it.

Been drinking in here for a couple of years, but it's losing it's appeal for me. For the length of time I've been drinking there, I'd expect a chat from time to time. Staff retention is good, and the staff tend to do stuff together on days off. That being said, the staff can look quite scruffy (unshaven, "bedhead" hair, etc.), and on the whole they're professional and attentive, but it feels like an Aussie bar (virtually all staff are Aussie or Saffa, etc.). Food is great. I eat here loads. As commented previously, it's a Fullers pub, so you pay Fullers prices. As a Licensee myself, I notice things other customers may not, and there's a blatant Coke problem amongst some regulars in the toilet cubicles. The same guys that stand at the bar "bantering" with the staff, usually swearing loudly about England v Australia in Cricket, Rugby, etc. Quite off putting.

Good and big Fullers pub that always feels like there's a lot going on; I've only once not gone in because it was too damn full. It now has a big space out the back where they have jazz gigs. Years ago I used to run a performance poetry venue upstairs at the GIV, but they've expanded since.

A very good pint as you'd expect from a Fullers house and a nice enough pub. Just too damn BIG for my personal tastes though. Some of the staff can be a little unwelcoming too. Nice big screen for watching footie though.

Great pub. A tad dear but all Fuller's pubs are. Very busy on a Friday and Saturday night. The best pub on Chiswick High Street by a country mile.
|
Splendid pub as ever - and a rare sighting of a guest beer, Jennings Cumberland Ale, last Saturday. This pub is highly recommended and is likely to prove even more popular than ever now that Jack Stamps over the road and The Crown and Anchor are no longer open
|
Not been in there for ages but was a good old boozer, is Tom still running it ???
|
Indeed a very good pub with good food (albeit a tad expensive) and good beer. Service is usually very prompt as well. Cant fault this place in general.
|
Great pub, fine beers and they always make an effort to serve you quickly. Bonus is the Headliners Comedy Club in the hall at the back of the pub every week-end...

Nice place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon drinking with a lady friend on one of the big Chesterfield sofas at the back. Apart from that its pretty crap, really! Not a great place to go drinking with your mates. Its hard to say what it is exactly, but there's something not quite right about the place.

Superb pub. Great comedy club, good beer, good atmosphere and shows all the footy without attracting the chelsea mob. Fantastic.

Looks like a pub, smells like a pub and by golly it acts like a pub. "Garden" is a giggle in the summer and somewhere to escape to in the winter. Great beer.

I like it here. Don't ask me why, becasue it does get very busy at weekends, but it's big enough to cope. As traditional as a large and popular Fullers pub can be, and with the fairly recent additions of a comedey club and a late lisence it has established itself as one of the better Chiswick boozers. Good for: all sorts really.

Good ales, and ok (ish) atmos but the worst Sunday roast I've ever had - hardly any of it; expensive and luke warm. Drink here- don't eat here!

Nice pub, mobbed at the weekends. Strange thing about Chiswick is that the Hammersmith kids come up here to drink in a nicer area, and they're hard to escape, and this place is no exception. Pleasant enough though.

good lively pub. sit outside on a sunny day & watch the world go by.

Nice pub. Good beer. Pleasantly lively. Very strange selection of vegetables with the Sunday roast though. Hope you like carrots.
