At the risk of upsetting everyone who has a problem with chains pubs ... this is actually quite a decent place. I will qualify that by saying I am coming at it from the point of view of needing somewhere for a glass of wine, decent food and a sit down on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon when everywhere else in the area is packed. Food well cooked and drinks fine.

However, weekday nights and especially Friday the place is rammed with people getting hammered after the office ... best to save it for weekend when you are taking elderly parents etc out for a quick drink.

Good news: the Laurel Pub Company, owners of Slug & Lettuce and Yates's are going out of business. Maybe there is a god afterall.

I passed by here yesterday afternoon (July 28th) and something really hit me. Why on earth in such a vibrant and colourful area such as Soho, would anyone even contemplate visiting such a place as this? Completely baffling.

How this bland chain pub manages to be full night after night is beyond me. Inadequate numbers of bar staff and an thoroughly indifferent attitude to beercraft mean a long wait followed by a dissapointing pint is guaranteed for all. It saddens me to think that all the money the slugs' unfortunate punters cough up day after day clearly goes to line the pockets of a careless and grasping strata of middle managers rather than on delivering a good service and providing value for money. How people are happy to settle for this dire excuse of a pub is utterly beyond me. Frankly I fear for our heritage.

***PUB CLOSED***

Unfortunately, not forever. Renovation job, so the next anonymous, character-free incantation of the Soho branch of this nasty and expensive chain should be open and pouring bad pints of everything by about this time next week. If this is your regular, and you're looking for something to fill the void, TRY A REAL PUB. Oh that's right, the one opposite has closed to be turned into flats. The suburbanisation of W1 gallops ahead unchallenged.

Very expensive as it is a dull chain bar at Soho prices. Not value for money!

The food was average at best: i ate a steak which i asked to be cooked medium rare. It came back black as the ace of clubs.

No it hasn't closed. I was in there today and it definitely hasn't turned into a retaurant.

Still gets the customary "0/10 for chain bars" however...

Yes, it has closed.

I love seeing chain bars on the back hoof, although to be fair this wasn't the worst of places.

I'm sure this had turned into a Thai restaurant when I walked past it last week.

One of the better ones. Nice and big, nice food, friendly and helpful staff. Will go again.

Excellent during the week. Get a seat in the window (on Wardour Street), grab a lager and people watch! I had the best fish and chips I have ever had in this pub (if a bit pricey). Service can vary but the staff are usually very friendly. It can be very busy late at night and at weekends so get there early!

A sad excuse for a pub. Expensive drinks, boring and overpriced food, and terrible, inexperienced service. Not that I blame the staff, its more the fact that the company that owns Slug and Lettuce establishments would shut it down and turn it into a shoe store tomorrow if it gave a better return on shareholder's funds, which wouldn't be hard as the parent company is now either broke or very close to it. Avoid at all costs.

Slugs: An All Bar One with less emphasis on wine. Been here several times, can get terribly crowded on the weekend. Food is pretty good yet pretty pricey though, but there tends to be a nice crowd most evenings. Would recommend this as a cut above these kinds of chain bars as it's very central. Get there early for a seat though.

good pub to kick off a night, nice and spacious and got two floors with live footy on several big screens.
Drinks not to expensive either and the barmaid put extra shots in our pitchers so can't be to bad!
