user reviews of the Fairmile, Cobham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Large pub/resturant with hotel attatched, in a prime location sitting back from the old A3 just outside Cobham. Unfortunately that is where the positives stop: indifferent, overpriced beer, ditto food, dirty surroundings and uninterested staff. Add to this lairy customers - great!

I have a three year old son and we have been here many times before as they had a lovely childrens play area, but when we visited this pub on 28/8/2011 we were very disappointed as it has recently been renovated and all the play area had been taken away. For a pub that is well known in the area for being a family pub i cant see the sense in this, as in my opinion it is important to keep kids happy and occupied when you go out so that everyone is happy and relaxed, but if that is what you are looking for don't go here. Even the manager made a remark about the pub not wanting KIDS in it, but tried to pass it off as a joke when i was discussing with him the change in the pub, and by what they've done i dont think he was joking. We had to wait 3/4's of an hour for our meals to come and when they did i cant say that they were great meals and even the special offers on meals has been stopped now. So if you are looking for a place to take kid's dont go here, very disappointed

Went there today with family & friends and was extremely disappointed by the serve and facilites there. It took well over an hour to get our food after being told of a 45 minute delay but it came at different times. There was nine of us and we all ended up eating at different times which was really bad, two meals then 15/20 minutes before the next 3 meals and finally 5/10 minutes later the last ones came. They did try to make this up by giving us free desserts but that was only after we complained. Also the toilets were not at all nice, no working hand-dryers, and not at all clean with the 'toliet cleaning rota' dated w/c 15/05 and only the first half of the week filled out. The Fairmile used to be a classy place with a good reputation and I loved going there but hadn't been for a few years now having moved out of the area so was looking forward to going again but I can definitely say that I will not be rushing back, it was a complete disappointment and not such a nice place to spend an afternoon. It was a real let down.

On our latest visit all the cask ale had run out, leaving just the extra cold John Smiths. Long queues at the bar. Soft drinks overpriced. Hopeless!

Bog standard food, worth a go if in the mood. Also it is combined with a golf driving range.
Passing_By - 11 Jul 2010 18:23
fairly average food but excellent grounds and situated right near a driving range, previous posts put me off regarding the foot as well so it may be best to head into cobham.

Be careful about eating here, as you coulod end up with food poisoning just like me and my family did! Not good!!

On the face of it the Fairmile seems like a good value pub for eating. It does get very busy and seems to attract a lot of families with young children which makes it very noisy. we had to wait 50 minutes for our food which was good value but we were staving by the time it arrived. It was very rowdy and it served below average beer.

Poor ventilation... Strong smell of microwaved food... 'Arcade' in centre of pub lined with fruit machines... Clueless foreign staff... It all reminds me of a 1980s motorway service station.

Chef's just opened the tin....

Very cheap food, but cooked very badly. A few pikey's hanging around, if your on benefit probably a good haunt I'd stay clear.

P.S the chef is hardly likely to be shelling fresh pea's if he cant even operate the microwave

Passed the 'Fairmile' again today, en route to the 'Cricketers' on the green at Cobham. The Fairmile does look good from the outside, but not enough to entice me away from the superior cricket pub a mile or so away (it might be 2miles, but its worth the stagger..!!) Check it out for yourself. TJ

Just passing the Fairmile today, popped in for a meal and some liquid refreshment. Disappointed at the look of the menu, so had a quick pint of Adnams (Suffolk)bitter, and then continued on our way to Ripley instead. (See 'The Anchor', Pyrford Lock).
Nice enough surroundings at Fairmile. A real feeling of space and countryside. The building itself is quite nice, 3/4 walk-around bar, lots of nooks & grannies, they also have a cash-machine(ATM) inside the pub. But food-wise, it seems to be lacking in quality. If all you want is a 'harvester' type micro-waveable meal, this will do fine..!! I like the Fairmile, the venue is good, the bitter was fine, but the food looks only 3star..!

"peas which were changed for fresh ones which was cooked to perfection" Sorry, I can't accept that as a serious comment !

i have been to this pub a couple of times and on all visits i was very impressed the food was great (although i did get undercooked peas which were changed for fresh ones which was cooked to perfection once i said something). the staff where all pleasent and friendly. the location was nice too it was away from all noise. i will be visiting again and reccommends to everyone else to do so.

anonymous - 5 Jan 2007 00:01, why publish such a good review anonymously ? We had a meal here some time back and it was poor so what has actually changed since then ? Good tip, answer some of these negative reviews and use your username then others can click on your username and see where you've reviewed before as a comparison. I'm sure you will forgive me but your review reads like that of a member of staff - which of course I'm sure you're not ! No, I don't expect this review to last long !

Been to this pub lots of times in last few months! Great team and fab management who are always eager to please! Food is good too and new menu is great and good selection of beers and ales on offer too. Also got a fab kiddies play area in summer with bouncy castle which my kids love using. Great excuse to go to the pub!! Well recomended even if it is in middle of nowhere.

Sad decline!!!!! Turned up for this years car show and have to say that it was not a patch on previous years. What was the singer supposed to be? A karaoke artist or was he meant to be a joke!!
Lovely cars, shame about the pub and staff.

The bar is normally understaffed (for a Sunday) and there is normally a long wait for food if you get there after 12.15pm on Sunday lunchtime.

If you like your food nicely microwaved with a bland and unimaginative menu, then this is the place for you.

Plenty of better pubs, eateries and restaurants nearby, so why compromise and go to The Fairmile???

I love this pub. Great food, great service, great atomsphere. I loved the old feel to the place too. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good old fashioned pub with great food.

My brother went there last week, and said that the food was terrible, service bad and tables filthy. But he did say that they had the playground outside for kids.

Never saw Alan Partridge here sadly. One of those places that has a gigantic seating area. Seems like a bit hotel, with a big choice of food on the menu and drinks at the bar. Very much off the main road so could do with a car to get to the entrance. It looks posh on the outside but isnt especially on the inside

Mcdonalds of a pub

Excellent for kids. A large, enclosed, and safe playground with beer garden. Food and service OK. Can't recommend enough to tired parents who want to relax with a beer.

Lame lame lame pointless place (not a pub) Expect to see Alan Partridge or Gareth Cheesman there
goosegog - 23 Aug 2004 23:09
You've got to be kidding. I know some pensioners who occasionally go for lunch there - but is that good?? This ain't a pub it's like a big hotel type place with a travellodge attached - and past it's best too.
tubbygrub - 26 Mar 2004 14:21
awful place, agree totally souless. Get the feeling the good comments have been inserted possibly by staff or friends of staff. A bit like a harvester but without good food or drink, as for the service...no comment

fantastic staff-two of which i know so i can get u lovely discounts! food is excellent (try the nachos!!) and the whole interior is amazing! very warm and welcoming, with plenty of space and even a no smoking area! classic place
sarah - 25 Mar 2004 20:28
Souless steakhouse masquerading as a pub. Very poorly kept beer. Captive clientele with the Premier Lodge next door. Cannot believe anyone would go out of their way to visit this place.

Nothing special and in the middle of nowhere, never seen the point of going out of the way to somewhere that is so bland..
