user reviews of the Tattersalls Tavern, Knightsbridge

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I take back the previous review. This place is actually fine. I now think I was wrongly overcharged for a round - which happens - and assumed this was their regular prices. I tried to get the review taken down but BITE ignored the request.

This pub is an utter disgrace: Getting on for 6 pounds a pint and other copious overpricing. They make a lot of money during the summer from charity softball league that plays in Hyde Park, but moves are afoot for a boycott and account of their greed and lack of respect for customers.

Taylor Walker pub in the height of Knightsbridge.

I have visited this touristy pub for a beer before but never eaten here. The food was fine my king prawn sandwich with salad at £6.00 was pretty spot on

4 pumps with 3 ales on. Brains SA gold, Black Sheep best bitter and Moreland Old Speckled Hen.

As I had a local meeting I stuck to the orange juice and lemonade.

We mostly assembled at 6.45, and this gave ample opportunity to 'people watch' (especially as Brighty was a bit late, and John a bit early, for him). Entertainment was provided by the loud couple at the Bar spilling their 'champers', and the couple having the argument; no sign of Vanda however :( ... it took 2 round of drinks for people to understand my joke about one of the real ales 'The Titanic is going down well' ... what is it they say, never work with Children, animals and ex-colleagues, oh well. No matter, we enjoyed ourselves and then pigeon-stepped our way (for the entire 92 steps) across to Senior S's, whereupon we bade Valerie a fond farewell.
Happy Days.

Has the worst pub manager I have ever come across. A mess named Vanda. Do not ask this woman anything regarding what drinks they do, as you will be refused service. In fact, if she is in there, I would recommend not bothering her at all, because she gets extremely angry just having to get her fat arse up off a seat.
She can breath fire and smoke bellows out through her self important nose!

To Murgatroyd I set a challenge - in this shopping Mecca called Knightsbridge can he tell me a pub not geared up to feed the shoppers? As Harrods is the number 1 free destination in London for visitors it would be strange if a few of them didn't want fed and a soon to close pub that didn't take their money. I live near the Tatts and know they open at 9am for their regular currency traders who work nights, the ad agency next door use it as their second office, the staff help a local elderly couple home with their shopping every day and the Harrods staff are mostly known by name and certainly by what we drink. I was even invited on their staff away day to Thorpe Park and while I couldn't go other customers did. So yes there are hundreds of tourists at lunch but this is not all the Tatts is geared up for. Is it perfect? No. Is it worth getting to know the staff and having a "local" in town. Definitely. Especially as the Paxtons is so poorly run, the TeaClipper is up it's own arse and the Bunch of Grapes only sells God awful Greene King ales.

A place fully devoted to the lunchtime shopper trade with a heavy preponderance of eaters. I found the pub rather soulless despite the reasonably comfortable interior. Ales were Youngs Gold, Old Speckled Hen and Adnams Southwold

There are better pubs than this within 10 minutes walk

Had a pint here one Wednesday evening to join some friends. Although the pub wasn't packed, there were a lot of people waiting to be served and the service was pretty slow. There were a few staff members who didn't show any interest in serving, instead leaving all the work to two barmaids. This was made worse by the fact that the barmaid had the annoying habbit of asking the next person to be served what they would like BEFORE she had finished serving the last person. In the time I was waiting, she mixed up orders, and then when it came to my turn it took almost 5 minutes for me to be served my pint, which when it came was ok but certainly not worth the wait. I can only assume that this is some tactic to make people think that they're being served quicker, but trust me, it doesn't work.

Apart from the previous review from RexRattus, it is difficult to match up most of the recent comments with my experience. However, I'm still not sure whether it is part of a modern building where they have done a reasonable job of making the place feel like a typical London pub, or actually an older building built into something newer. Anyway, the staff were friendly, with the barman serving a full pint and apologising for not having the proper glass for the guest beer (Wychwood Dragon's Bite and another St George's special) and a polite young lady collecting up the used glasses, etc. Pleasantly surprised.

This is a rather uninspiring Spirit Group pub, just off Brompton Rd. It has the usual combination of normal seating and high tables and chairs, and the usual black-shirted bar staff. But, on the plus side, the bar staff were polite, and they did have TT Landlord, Bombardier, and Wychwood Dragons Bite on. My companion and I had the Dragons Bite, which was pretty good, especially as it was an ale neither of us had previously tried. In my view theres no real reason to seek this pub out, but it is there, in a convenient location for Harrods store, if you need a pint and a bite (either food or Dragons!).

I visited tatts few days after re opening. I was really looking forward to it but... i was disapointed. Staff looked exhausted, big que at the bar, not enough people to serve all the customers. no football on- since opening, tvs covered. I work nearby but I don't feel like drinking there anymore...

Crap pub, over priced and rude bar staff.
jtourettes - 23 May 2008 13:29
An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walked into a pub. They left immediately. It was Tattersalls.

Dreadful beyond metaphors.
xyrion - 14 Sep 2007 17:11
Livelyish boozer, but the Guinness is rough(or it was last night).
Good if football is on, typical Knightsbridge affair really.
Gets very packed, if one of the two big stores nearby have a leaving do

This pub lacked real "umph" simply because it looks and feels tired and old, despite it being recently refurbished. About a month ago when my friends and I ordered food it literally took 1 whole hour for the food to come out and when it did we were disappointed simply because everything looked microwaved and just splashed onto the plate. The only saving grace of the place was the one or two friendly bar staff that kept chatting to us and apologising for the long wait. Overall, for a pub in Knightsbridge, i expected a lot more thus i left feeling a little disappointed.

After a nice sunny Easter Sunday walk yesrerday in Hyde Park we had nice lunch here and returned later following an unsatisfactory drink in a pub round the corner to be treated like old friends! On reflection this should not have been a surprise as the landlord and barstaff had been very pleasant and carried on being.Atmosphere and good beer ensured we stayed until early evening. It is tucked away a bit but we felt we had found a gem.
moeski - 9 Apr 2007 19:44
A nice place for a quaff and feed but by time we left was packed so maybe we'll pick a quieter time to eat next time but the grub was more than acceptable.Service was friendly as were punters, all in all well worth a visit.

Great pub, food well above normal'chain'fare standard, well kept beers(good range of wheat beers)Leffe was fanastic as was the hangover.Service was amazing especially as it was so busy when we visited-and best news-my girlfriend loved it too which is a good excuse to return....

GOOD PROPER FOOD AND YUMMY YUMMY DESERTS, WHICH WASN'T THE ONLY YUMMY YUMMY WE SAW THAT NIGHT... GREAT RANGE OF DRINKS FOR A SPICY NIGHT OUT WITH THE GIRLS FROM WORK, NOT TO MENTION THE EYE CANDY WE ALL SAW FROM HARRODS! AN ALL AROUND FUN AND LIVELY PUB WITH A DECENT CHILLING AREA WHERE 'A CANDLE LIT ATMOSHPERE' DESCRIBES IT TO A TEE. GREAT, FRIENDLY STAFF, AND EVEN A HAPPY PUBLICAN IN THE CENTRE OF LONDON!! A RARE BREED!! KEEP IT UP CHRIS, MISHA AND GUYS!

The exterior and interior of this pub were clean and free of debris. The men's toilets were clean too. It was of course a very busy Friday evening and although the place was lively enough, it was also quite loud too - simply because there was so many people. I was greeted by a fair haired gentleman and I asked him if food was being served. I was told that it was until 9pm, however its not very obvious where one is supposed to consume the food as no one else at all was eating... and downstairs was blocked off for a party. Needless to say, i managed to find a place. I ordered a pepsi to drink, grilled salmon, onion rings and some garlic bread. The drinks were fine, but garlic bread was very average literally soaked in garlic butter so not that nice. The onion rings were ok but nothing special. The salmon though, was excellent, cooked to perfection and with a nice grilled flavour. Even in all the hustle and bustle of a Friday evening, the waiter / bar server still managed to come back to ask me if I was enjoying my meal. A nice touch. I would return to this pub, but if eating then at a less busy time.

I currenty work at Tattersalls, of course you may think my views are biased, but it really is a great place to be working.
Customers are great. Barclays bunch are a great laugh and so are some of the harrods staff. So big hello to you all. Mr. North and his nest of little vipers (incuding monster, skippy, Mr Smashing of the jacuzzi, Messy jojo, and 27%).
Atmosphere in the Tatts is much better now, with big open space lots of room and plenty of seating. Just dont expect a table for lunch if you turn up at 2pm!

End of the day we do things as they should be done.
Clean tables, clean glasses, nice selection of drinks, great food and here's the biased bit SPECTACULAR SERVICE!

The Tattersalls Tavern is a pleasant mix of contemporary and traditional. My Wife and I had a delicious Sunday lunch last week on a Christmas shopping visit to London. The Staff were simply lovely and made our day.Would recommend to anyone visiting Harrods or surrounds,we will return.

Started using'Tatts'a couple of months ago after going to a great party in their downstairs bar when we were so impressed by the super staff.Just had a small refurb so now the place is as good as the people working there(ladies and apparently gents loos doneup too Liz!)This is one of my favourite pubs....great food quickly served even when busy as it usually is and good wine selection. The place is clean with a cool atmosphere but still a pub and cosy with candles. The staff are helpful and with Bossman Chris just want you to enjoy yourself. No chavs(even though Burberry just round corner)but a mixture of local shop/office workers(mainly Harrods like us or Harvey Nix).Best pub in Knightsbridge.

Good food and fair price, would recommend

I worked at the Tattersalls Tavern for nine months of last year. Obviously I'm biased however the managers are excellent people and the clientel are very friendly. Since the remodeling it has lost some of the old english charm, however i believe the staff more than make up for that with their openness and service.

Tattersalls was my first English pub. I didn't think it lacked ambience but then again, I have no point of reference. Very friendly atmosphere but more Man United fans than Spurs fans the night I went. Sad.
anonymous - 14 Jan 2004 04:24
I used to love Tattersalls back before they completely remodeled it last year. It used to have ambience and charm, now it is cold and sterile. Unfortunate turn of events, but I'm sure it suits the clientele of Harrod's better now...
