Couple of "different" beers on plus Ruddles, Abbots etc - no its not a Greene King house in disguise - as far as I know! Ate there once and it was OK. Went to eat there again and run a tab as I intended on having more than one beer with the dinner, no problem said the barmaid, just need table number. Then whilst pondering the menu a differfent member of staff wanders over says I havent paid for my beer... I explained the previous conversation with the barmaid. In a "computer says no" style this person says we dont do tabs. No apology for THEIR error, no polite would you mind paying as we've made a mistake - so I paid for the beer and walked. You just lost a possible regular customer - although judging by the conversation skills I doubt the member of staff in question could read this.
Wanderd along the waterfront to William IV - less beer selection but excellent food.

As far as Wetherspoon pubs go, it was OK. The staff were extremely helpful when my wife struggled to get WiFi on her lap top thingy, the beer was up to Wetherspoons high standard and the chips were superb. Perhaps we are easily pleased but we liked the place....and the prices.

Standard modern JDW house built to cater almost soley for the student community around Brayford Wharf. Visited on a Sunday evening and the place was messy and unkempt - glasses and plates left on tables - slow service at the bar by staff who looked tired and jaded. Food (burgers) were flaccid and unappetising, the limited helping of salad looked like it had seen better days!

The place was quite full with student drinkers but I would suggest for food you try one of the other eateries in the area unless you are on a tight budget.

an attempt at a trendy, modern bar in the new retail area around the wharf.
quite small for a jdw house.
2 levels. downstairs bar. upstairs dining.
excellent view across the wharf from the upstairs window seats.
the usual jdw menu, but only 2 cask ales on, abbot & ruddles.
the abbot was in good condition.
***
we called during the lincoln christmas markets for a lunchtime meal.
the place was completely filled, but we did get served at the bar fairly quickly.
had to wait well over an hour for our meals though.
the staff seemed to be doing what they could, but the place seemed thinly staffed for such a busy period.
loads of empty glasses all over the place.
we eventually felt as though we'd spent a lot of the day here instead of up in the markets!
***
verdict:
no extra staffing during the lincoln christmas markets seemed a poor management move.
also the cask ale range was down to only 2. quite poor for a jdw.
seemed more of a youngsters weeked boozer.
disappointing. wished I had gone to the ritz pub instead in the end.
just a 4 from me.

Square Box would be a better name than Square Sail. Its a pretty featureless Lloyds No1 on Brayford Wharf so its full of people going to the cinema next door. There are about 8 handpumps, when we called most of these still had festival ales on, even though the festival finished almost 2 weeks previously. They were selling these at 1.09 a pint, they might have been a bargain or the beer might have been well past its sell by date. Who knows? We couldnt get any as it was full of shoppers and child buggies and they only had 2 staff serving. Not good on this visit, but I have been in on a previous visit when it was OK.

you get what you pay for and it shows in this place staff have no manners and would rather stand chatting to each other
