I don't think this is a pub. Get it off the site!

When you consider that a bottle of Becks cost around £3.50 I think, or more - I was a little drunk one evening... No wonder people get cheap beer from Supermarkets.

This place is the pits you just have to look at the place and see its Chav city.Who ever designed this was either drunk, stoned(should have been)or just has no class.
That to me sums up this whole corner of the town and includes Bar Med (what a toilet).

How much does the beer cost? Looks chavvy.
TheSurreyPubMan - 9 Jul 2008 17:22
Do you have to repeat everything twice Searching for H files?

There are some things in life money can’t buy, but for everything else, there is Roman Abramovich. It was a priceless moment (from a going out in Guildford perspective) to see fairly long queues for Yates’ and Bar Med Saturday night (3 Feb) around 10ish, so we ended up in Bar Mambo. Then again, I usually go out more on a Friday night, so maybe Saturday nights are considerably busier? You don’t usually expect to queue to enter Yates’ or Bar Med. Anyway, I have popped in Bar Mambo to use the toilet when previously staggering home from a night out, so was quite happy we were not charged entry to this small venue. The bouncers seemed friendly enough and crucially did not ask me for photo ID! Yet it took ages to be served at the bar and the bar staff, moreover, seemed quite aloof not to mention woefully short-handed on what was a fairly busy night here. I was driving and thought £2 for a coke in a small glass was deplorable.

Despite the queue for Bar Med eventually going down, we stayed in here (not my decision). It was quite vibrant and I had no complaints with the music the DJ was playing given his non-cheese music stance. I agree with an earlier review though in that the dance floor is ridiculously small. There was a few female talent round, but they were comfortably outnumbered by the sheer number of blokes here or they were in cliquey groups (with men) anyway. Someone got bottled at one point which undermined what was a good-humoured atmosphere until then.

Overall this place did a job given the circumstances that night, but there are far better places for me to search for H-Files if out on a Saturday night in Guildford town centre.

Mambo has seriously changed since I last went there... So much better now!

Prices have just become cheaper! Beer is only like £2/2.50 a bottle which is pretty bloody good for Guildford! Love the new layout of this place too. Mambo - the new student hotspot? I hope so... ;)

About as depressing a place as you can get in Guildford
aleman - 11 Dec 2006 13:11
Chav central. Avoid. Only went in because it was the only place with space at 0.30. Suppose it could be passable if you like the music, dont mind getting drinks spilled on you and are properly drunk before you go in.

Bar Mambo is a great place to spend your evening. The staff is very nice and always very helpful. Maybe it depends on how some customers behave towards them...
Can't be easy to work for Harper..It is not he fault of the staff that the prices are expensive

If you end up in here you really have to understand and accept that you really have made some recent bad choices. Trying to rationalise it otherwise will only make you psychotic. It's OK. Really. Just learn from it and move on, never to replay the errors.

I have to agree with that first post from "Calum". Unless it results from accident or ignorance, the only other reason to be in this hole is if you want to satisfy a need to closely observe the waifs and strays of a one-horse town as they flail, drunkenly, pointlessly, and so, so, angrily, against a screamingly obvious empty life.
Just down your couple of drinks and then get the hell out of there as fast as you can and be glad that you can, or you'll top yourself. When you wake the next day, convince yourself it was a dream if you like, then start your screenplay or your television treatment and send it to Ricky Gervais when you've finished. Either that or try to do something to help you forget the whole sodden, pewking, brawling mess. Perhaps a move to Canada?

Boasts the most incredibly overpriced fag machine I have ever seen in the entirity of my long and distinguished life (£8.00 for a 12 pack of Monkey lights, I had to say yes to cancer, damn my addiction, damn it, fuck). If its any concelation money will be continually extracted by enterprising entrepenis Michelle Harpe across the board, my advice is get well chummy with the staff who also hate his guts and get everything for free, go on try it!

Very expensive drinks!!!

Whether it's called Bar Zuka or Bar Mambo or whatever- this place has and always will be over priced, with uncooperative staff who have a chip on their shoulder.

DO NOT GO- SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE AND ABOUT THIRTY QUID FOR A ROUND FOR 5- RIP OFF
mattclapham - 25 Oct 2005 20:19
This place is an absolute rip off. The music is too loud, it's trying to be a lively holiday bar, and has failed miserably. But if you wanna pay a fortune for a tiny glass of soft drink full of ice, then who's stopping you!
Ash666 - 26 Feb 2005 12:38
If you like to pay over the odds for poor quality drinks, if you like to pay £3 for lemonade, if you like your music so loud it's distorted and if you like ridiculously small dancefloors then this place is for you!

Must earn the most money per unit area of any licensed premises in the UK...

Bar Zuka is now known as Mambo. Despite the change in title, it is much like it used to be.
Will2 - 17 Dec 2004 18:19
Disagree with all of the above. Grow up Doug. See you soon Calum.
Ken - 19 Aug 2004 11:20
Agree with all of the above
Bad - 12 Aug 2004 09:48
Full of posers and scumbags, a place to be avioded at all costs...
Marek - 2 Jun 2004 22:56
Complete and utter rip off
Doug - 9 May 2004 21:36
Designed to be a feeder bar for The Drink. You can sit right next to the pelican crossing on the one way system and pay a fortune for a drink. It’s deserted until 11pm at which point it gathers the strays and stupidly drunk until it is packed.

I don’t see any reason to go there other than for morbid curiosity or when unable to make rational decisions when drunk. So I’ll see you in there soon!
