Visited due to being in the city for a gig and the sole Coventry representative on the CAMRA National Inventory - unfortunately, as stated elsewhere, the lounge features have all been painted over with white paint and this makes the room look very ordinary and like a very scruffy social club. Managed to time my visit to this Irish pub for St.Patrick's Day, so at 6.30pm, it was totally rammed inside and I couldn't get into the bar room to look over the features there - served via the hatch/doorway from the lounge side. Long wait for a drink, but the Guinness (natch) was very good. I was on a very limited time-scale, so probably worth a return visit at a quieter time...

What a fantasic genuine pub this is, smashing bar staff and the landlady Anna needs to be praised on her expertise for her high quality of beer and also the friendly welcoming atmosphere she provides. It's one of the best pubs in town, the bass is to die for. My husband has guzzled a fair few pints in his time and to this place he returns for every one, I am also a frequent user of The Black Horse and i enjoy the range of wines Anna sells, well i must say they do go down a treat with the sing along and live music on a sunday, well i hope you have a read and join us one day.

new owners to have ruined a good pub.lounge has been painted all white including the wooden panelling ;looks like a clinic!Beer quality also seems poorer .Bass was passable but nothing to get excited about. Most of old regulars seem to have moved on to pastures new.

I have used this pub for the past 15 years or more. When I started, it was run by Brendan and Bridie McDermott, the most generous Irish couple you could wish to meet. The welcome was always warm, the beer (Bass), was always excellent. Sadly, in 2003, Brendan died (too young) and Bridie carried on until last year when she took a well earned retirement.

This was what I would term as being a proper pub, a centre of community supplying good beer at a very reasonable cost. To give you some idea of that centre of community and the heart that defines this pub, a campaign was launched last year to honour the memory of Brendan and raise cash for Coventrys new Myton Hospice. This little pub raised a whopping 20,000. One individual alone, Tom, raised 3000 by running the London Marathon - Well done!

The lease was bought by Anna at the end of last year. She is ringing the changes as she is entitled to do. Some are not too popular at the moment as the pubs character is changing, but we should wait for the end result before making any judgement.

Regardless, I would recommend it to anyone who likes to drink and socialise in a genuine pub instead of a plastic profit centre.

What a fabulous boozer - and a real boozer at that. A bar for the men to drink, swear and watch the racing on TV, a wood-panelled lounge with an open fire for couples or people who prefer a more refined atmosphere than the bar and a parlour out the back to which the fruit machine is banished. The Bass and M&B Brew XI is absolutely top notch and Bridie's ham doorsteps with English mustard are a fantastic warmer on a cold winter's afternoon. My favourite pub in the world - bar none.
