Went to this pub on a recommend from chum, last week, who went there about 18 months ago. Arrived and was immediately pleased with outside, however, once inside after the initial warm and cosy feeling, got the shock of my life with the food. It was a huge disappointment. This place has great potentia,l but the lady who is cooking, like the menu is sadly lacking. Given it a 4, would have been more, if it was not for the dire offering.

Under new management, worth a try!

This pub has changed hands! We went last year (September 08) and had a wonderful meal. So, this month I bought my parents for a treat - it's a fair drive from London, but worth it, I thought. Wrong - the evening was like a scene from Fawlty Towers with a pinch of Ramsey's kitchen nightmares. The staff didn't know what they were doing, or what was being served, and the food was very average indeed. All the interesting choices have been removed from the menu and replaced with standard pub fare. The day we went, they had missed a delivery, so most things were unavailable. When we chuckled amongst ourselves about our bad luck (all our first choices were not available) the chef/owner came out and told us off for laughing! You could also hear him shouting from the kitchen. The food that did arrive (at various times during the evening) was either bland and tasteless (lamb cutlets) or burnt (lasagne). Other diners complained about the quality of their dishes while we were there. This was a lovely pub - one to avoid now, unless you only plan on having a drink - the bar is still nice.

We discovered this pub by mistake in fact, looking for another in the area. This was the best mistake ever, superb food, fresh and honestly priced, offering traditional pub grub as well as more sophisticated French influenced dishes. The staff are friendly, polite & relaxed and the atmosphere is great. I don't want to recommend it as I'm worried it might become too popular/crowded. It's true that the local crowd (I think, rugby team) can be a bit rowdy at times, but it doesn't bother me. Anyhow, great food, great staff, great place, I keep going back and am going again this w/e.

I ended up at this pub for the first time a couple of months ago and I got the idea for going from this site. The pub itself was lovely, set in such beautiful rural surroundings. Didn't eat there although I probably will next time. The only problem I found is that the locals tend to clog up the very small bar area and you end up waiting for ages because you can't be seen or heard. Nice bar staff though....

Visited last week. Food was good and the waitress was friendly. I think the new landlord (the person who said hello and goodbye to us) is much nicer and not so up his own backside as the last one. A big criticism from me is that they still insist on operating a 'smoking throughout' policy. That policy alone will keep us away until it either changes or a new landlord and landlady arrive for us to give it another try. The smoking throughout policy is a massive thumbs down and that is why I cannot rate it higher than 5.

This was a great pub for food, but it is just changing hands, so check it out first.

It's a central point to the local community, well liked & heavily used so the Publicans can't be that bad can they?

A lovely looking pub with a thatched roof, good beers and excellent food. Only mared by the very unfriendly publicans.
