please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Busy place with a big emphasis for food.

Expensive but then what do you expect for a Fullers pub.

My pint of ale was fantastic though and it is good watching the world go by out onto the market square.

6/10

Pub can't lose because of its location and always has a buzz but drinks are seriously overpriced. Ale always in good nick but are just as good next door at the Market Inn which is marginally cheaper.

Had tried earlier in the day but service was too slow so we revisited as our last port of call on Saturday night. Chatted to a friendly Scot who was in exactly the same position at the bar as he had been 6 hours earlier. Popular, market square Fullers pub so you know what you are going to get in terms of standards, punters and beers; Stonehenge's Eye-Opener was the guest ale but I went for a Fullers Oliver's Island.

I liked this place. Being a Fuller’s pub there is usually an irreducible standard applied in that company’s pubs, and this was a good one. I enjoyed their Oliver’s Island (3.8%), a summer-time pint with a “citrus” flavour as brewers often now boast. This couldn’t overcome our feeling about the very soggy weather outside, though we soon forgot the rain: it can be a session beer. The lady behind the bar was helpful and friendly. Good clean toilets. Within striking distance of the station.

no luck as an ale drinker, on both my recent visits there was only 1 ale out of 4 so a bit disappointing. Popular though and good atmosphere (particularly when compared to the market inn next door).

Three of us chose the Trator's Gate beer and wer every happy with that - nice pub

Nice pub right on the market square. Mainly Fullers beers but a few guest ales including Spire Ale.

Sympathetically renovated by Fullers after a short period of closure.

We were happy enough here. Six draught ales - mainly Fullers but also Stonehenge's Spire Ale - were on. My pint, a Spire, was immaculate.

But the atmosphere was a little strange. By trying to appeal to all and sundry - couples who are after a bottle of red with a meal for two; teens who want a pint of cold fizz and a bit of a shout; old gits who want a quiet beer and a read of the paper - it feels like a slightly anonymous space and it will take a while to find its niche.

But certainly worth a stop-off in the meantime.

Pleasant enough pub but very light coloured bar and back bar fitting do spoil the olde worlde feel. Since my last visit the pub has changed hands from Enterprise Inns to Fullers and the beer we were drinking was in good condition but a bit pricey at 3.80 pint.

3.80 for a pint of London Pride, WTF? If only I'd read the reviews on here before venturing in. No wonder the place was utterly deserted.

Tim Taylors Landlord at 3.60 a pint!
Pretty average place with very few staff to be seen.
Not bad, but could be a whole lot better with a bit of effort.

noggin48 is right about the price - a pint of run-of-the-mill bitter and ditto lager left me with not much out of a tenner. "Charmless" is the kindest thing I could say about the place. Pity, as it's a prime location and should be buzzing - it wasn't.

This pub is located on the marketplace. We went in on a tuesday pm. Not many in seeing as the market was outside the door. No wonder, the real ale we tried was awfull, and the price, 3-80 a pint! WOW! come on. I complained about the price and they said it was the v.a.t increase. Who do these people think we are, stupid! The beer was terrible, We wont be going again. Avoid.

Average city centre pub. Most other places were rammed full but this wasn't on a Friday night. Bar staff weren't overly cheerful bt the beer/whisky was fine.

Centrally located on the market square serving Hopback beers. The GFB was in very good form on our visit.

The food was reasonable pub fare without being exceptional. The service was very friendly and efficient which was a slight surprise given how much passing trade there must be.

Centrally located pub with real ales, and food served all evening. Enjoyed an excellent all day breakfast that was reasonably priced, and promptly and cheerfully delivered to our table.

Just above average. I don't know if it would be so busy if it wasn't on the market place.

Pleasant enough place. Outdoor seating is nice, even though it sits on the car park. Good ale selection.

I used to live here!!! My daddy was the manager and we refurbished it from the skanky City Arms and made it all nice and family friendly but then we left so it's probably rubbish now. he he. joking. Do they still do Lemon Brules? they were great!
My rating is for what it used to be like!

Friendly, clean pub. Disagree w/above comments. Gr8 service from bar staff. Attractive and friendly. Always a good combination for a pub. Gr8 choice as well.

Lovely old style pub. Staff are sometimes a little rude. They sell Hoegarden which is nice but it cost nearly 4 quid a pint. (you can get a 2 pint bottle from Tesco for 2.80!) Really nice food - not incredibly expensive - overall the pros outweigh the cons.

Formerly the City Arms, never much cop.
