Not my choice of venue. They make a big thing about supporting local beers and ciders but the only local beer was a Hunters at 5%+ . Very busy on a Saturday evening but not with people drinking trad beers and ciders. Shan't go back. Having said that we didn't see anywhere else promising in Honiton.

the older barman thought that leaving people queing at the bar to clear tables was more customer friendly than actually serving anyone.
Toddlers running amok, even one sat on the bar.
Depressing, truly awful place.
Plastic everything, no customer care and sproggs everywhere.
This is a pub from my worst nightmares.

Open as a Wetherspoon now.
What a transformation. Packed at lunchtime, with any table grabbed as
soon as it vacated. Food was good and the Jail ale well kept.
One slight quibble. Some of the beers were off, but the pump clips were not turned round, even after the bar staff had told me they had run out.

This pub is closed at the moment and a notice outside says that it will reopen as a Wetherspoons on the 9th of july.
It does seem a little bit of an odd location for a Wetherspoons.
Will revisit when the place is open later in the year.

Due to the fact there only seems to be about 3 trains back to London a day, I had 2 nours to kill in Honiton on a Wednesday afternoon. Great I thought 2 hours in a quaint Devon Beer Garden. Er think again.

After visiting two utter dives on the High Street populated by rather agressive young lads with the thickest gold chains you must be able to wear without falling over (in one they were all huddled round a telly at the bar watching the Jeramy Kyle show I kid ye not), I was extremely wary about the look of this place.

Well appearances CAN be deceptive, an excellent selection of Ales, well kept and some friendly banter whilst watching the Cricket.

It was a bit smokey and the carpet looked like it had seen Queen Victoria's coronation (as did some of the regulars) I would definately make a stop off here again, its by far the best pub that opens during the day in a place that seems devoid of decent drinking establishments. Maybe the Beer Garden concept is just about to hit Honiton afer they get over the recent discovery of Television.
