user reviews of the Mitre, Fulham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The new owners of the Mitre Pub are chasing away the locals in droves with their new Shisha water pipe lounge. What used to be a good neighbourhood pub is now attracting a rather peculiar bearded clientele and the atmosphere has changed almost overnight. This used to be a friendly local pub but the place now has a pretty unpleasant feel to it. Unfortunately, it appears that the new owners have taken a good local pub and essentially ruined it.

Inoffensive pub with somewhat boring dcor in the typical modern style which so many pubs go for these days. Plenty of space though so easy to get a table after a match at nearby Chelsea FC. They have a couple of ales and ciders. Nothing exciting. I get the feeling they are trying not to offend anybody by doing anything different. Friendly enough staff and good service. The sort of pub you'd find a delegation of New Labour policy makers.

RUBBISH, EXPENSIVE, PRETENTIOUS........always has been!

I would genuinely like to get really excited about this pub because it does little wrong. The beer is well looked after, the food is generally good and the staff are always helpful but it still lacks something to make me want to go back time and again.

If you visit this pub I doubt you'll be disappointed but equally you may not be overwhelmed either. It might be just one of those pubs that fairs better in the summer than the winter - its does have a nice garden area, making it one of the few pubs in the area to comfortably drink outside on warm days and nights.

Good pub, civilised. Great garden and good beer selection. Reasonable food, but no gastropub. Well worth a visit.

I still think this is the best pub in Fulham by a distance. Judging by the crowds that still flock to it most days of the week I guess I'm not the only one to think so. Beer prices are in line with the rest of the area although I don't think price is really a consideration for the type of people it attracts. The female count is always high - my girfriend puts that down to the fact that it doesn't show football, a good wine list and friendly staff. The food is very acceptable and certainly holds its own with other pubs/restaurants in the area. The staff tend to be very good and attentive - I think because the manager owns the place and is there every night. It has a garden that is obviously very popular in the summer so get there early if you want a table. While it's busy most nights of the week, people tend to go there weekdays to eat and relax and party more on Fridays and Saturdays. Highly recommended!

They had Pride, Doom Bar and Landlord on. The Pride was distinctly average, and at 3.50 a pint is way over the top for this area. It has mostly boarded flooring, but with a bit of filthy carpet at one end of the room. Magenta and cream walls; padded magenta facing to the bar; sofas and high tables. The sofas may have been leather (or maybe a decent imitation) but for me they gave it a plastic feel to the place. Characterless and expensive sums this pub up forme. The best thing about it was the signed print of the Red Arrows on the wall. I wont be back.

Went to a birthday party here last week - had a great night. Really lively pub with a very relaxed atmosphere. Mixed "upmarket" crowd. Good selection of beers. I didn't eat but those that did were complimentary.Got a good garden which must be fantastic when the sun shines! Great discovery. Looking forward to a return visit.

Not a local but I get down here once every few months to see mates. If I could afford Fulham I would move there just for this pub! Always has a good feel to it. Good beer, good food and great eye candy. Fulham prices but it does attract a better class of customer. Love it.

Still the best pub in Fulham by miles. Great garden, great food, great staff and great crowd.
ANITA15 - 14 May 2008 15:35
Nice pub with good food especially the Specials

Definately up there with the best burgers in town!! Beer garden is great for those after work sessions. Staff are pretty cool as well...

Lovely pub, great beer garden with possibly the best pub burger I have ever eaten. And I have eaten a few.

This is my local and its great. I used to go there before the refurb, and you had the place to yourself. How times change! This always had huge potential and they have done a reasonable job - despite the refurb being a little wacky. The garden is always great in the summer but unsurprisingly packed. Food is OK - the ribs are a good signature dish but the rest is only reasonable - they need to up their game. But the real forte is the hot posh totty. Really very good indeed. Thank you God. I'll be back...

Full of posh people before they go off to Crazy Lazzas or something like that. Although starting to get more antipodeans in the mix recently, the core is still Fulham through and through.

Agree regarding the ribs - brilliant although skinny fries all the way.

I used to go before the overhaul and it's ten times better now.

As a Chelsea (champions!) fan I pop in most matchdays. On the plus side you can get served quickly by pleasant staff, the beer is good (Pride, Adnams, 6X, Youngs) and you can often get a place to sit.

The food is OK (had a huge rack of ribs), but lose the skinny french fries and get some proper chips! The atmosphere is a little subdued, but friendly. I probably wouldn't drink there in the week, but the same can be said for practically every pub in the area!

What makes the Mitre worth a visit is the beer garden, but be warned it gets packed at even the faintest sign of sunshine.

The beers okay, but the food isnt worth the money generally.

A half decent place to spend a sunny evening, but not really a winter pub I agree with the description soulless.

Of interest is the before and after photos of the pubs interior as you walk into the mens loos.

Sparky1 - 25 Jul 2006 11:42
Like sitting in the beer garden in the sun but find the inside a bit soulless. Staff seemed friendly enough and even though it was busy managed to keep up with the crowd.
pezza132 - 24 Jul 2006 11:01
A decent place for drink, the locals I encountered were friendly too.
Notasaffa - 13 Jul 2006 22:29
Great beer garden for enjoying a pimms on a summer afternoon
punks - 24 Mar 2006 18:46
Only complaints is it's a bit pricey- but it is Fulham after all.
lukemarson - 20 Mar 2006 13:37
This is a great pub that i plan to use on my birthday, lots of talent and plenty of london folk.

Much better than that supermarket down the road.

This pub used to be the ultimate chav dive of fulham, walked past there many a saturday night to see 2 old codgers at the bar fresh from the doll office and the bookies and not alot else whilst the rest of Fulham was heaving. It was shut down about 2 years ago, and they knocked ten bells out of the place - now it's re-opened it's a little gem, finally - a pub that undergoes conversion and actually comes out better than what it was! (as opposed to all the pretty nice boozers around SW6 that get 'renovated' and turned into poncey wine bars). Since it's revamp it's become alot more classier, but not what I'd call poncey or pretentous, and it still counts as a top boozer.

The crowd on a friday and saturday can be a bit "sloaney old boys rugby club wannabees" - but it's a nice pub, particularly after-work weekdays.

not bad pub for food and eye candy. beer is pretty good, if not overpriced - but then, what isnt in these parts!

mate recommended it last year and have been back a few times. really nice pub, great drinks, nice staff, not too snooty, outside area etc etc. its great really. only downside is i've either been really unnlucky with the food or its always rank. other than that, u cant beat it!
stassy - 14 Jun 2005 13:41
Its just been voted tenanted pub of the year for the whole of the UK so they must be doing something very right!I've loved it from the start for its great looks, great food, great garden and most importantly for its great staff that actualy give a damn about the service they offer you. An absolute gem of a pub.
markb - 29 Mar 2005 10:18
I love this pub. Suits the needs of my group of friends well. have always found the bar staff very friendly. You do need to drink up fast, and the food is not reccommended, but for a weekend daytime boozer, its fab!
juliette - 11 Jan 2005 15:23
Nice looking Pub, Beer good but Food Appalling, steak tasted and smelt terrible. good as a lunchtime or sunday boozer but make sure you eat elsewhere first
david - 18 Oct 2004 17:18
From the outside it looks a little dodgy, but plush, posh pub inside.
For drinking you can't really go wrong.
Service is fast.
There is a nice garden, but when the rare summer sun is out and it gets too busy there is a conservatory with plenty of room.
However, it does get a bit steamy.
Very popular with the 'young professionals'.

Superb pub - haven't tried the food yet but looks interesting. As for the bar staff, they're pretty good apart from the cocky little bastard with the short black hair - if he doesn't like serving drinks, he should maybe think about a new career. All in all though, a cracking booza!

The Mitre Baby Ribs are one of the best meals I've eaten since coming to London. For a local pub, there's nothing else one could possibly ask for. Great food, great atmosphere, great selection of beers, and great staff! Top Stuff 10/10
Cameron Edmeades - 15 Jun 2004 16:47
I agree that this pub is a very nice place in respect of the decor and drinks but that compliment does not extend to the bar staff. Following last orders and drinking up comments at 23:30 last saturday, a member of the bar staff snatched my friends full bottle of Smirnoff Ice and poured it all away - denying any kind of refund. Apparantly this is the pubs policy - so be warned if you do not drink up fast enough!

We thought this was an outstanding pub. It is very seldom that you walk into a pub in London and get the kind of service that we recieved in the Mitre. The staff were simply superb. The pub itself has been renovated extremely tastefuly - modern yet cosy and the garden is obviouly a massive bonus. We thought the menu was excellent and all of us that ate thought the food was great. The beer prices are what you would expect in Fulham but the fantastic wine list is amazing value. We loved it and will be going back often!

Gastro-pub. A combination of smart, modern surroundings with the atmosphere of an alpine chalet - lots of wood, leather seating and plush tartan upholstery. Clientele to match. Fairly pricey bar. Reasonably priced food. Menu is predictable but portions are generous and well presented. Live sports TV. Decking and heaters in the beer garden make it comfortable all year round.
