With time for one last pub before my train from Bank Quay station, I headed to the Postern Gate, which I'd spotted much earlier in the day when in the Friar Penketh. I'd been drawn by the prospect of the advertised Lilley's cider. But alas, there was none. The Postern Gate is more of a nightclub than a bar or a pub. It has several bouncers, loud music, posturing young adults and no real ale or cider. Not really my kind of place. For what it's worth, the keg selection was Guinness, Strongbow, Strongbow Dark Fruit, Fosters, Kronenbourg, Birra Moretti, John Smith's & Heineken. I was one of the lucky ones to get my drink in a glass, as opposed to plastic.

OK in summer outside - serves only Lager (which 'tasted' OK) otherwise - dive!

Dreadful hole - "Bangin" beats, dull lighting, limited seating. Only redeeming feature is the resonable speed of service.

Strange-looking pub, with what I guess are supposed to be twin oast house roundels at the front (but which are 'squashed' to about half their proper height). No real ales, so I had to make do with a swift John Smiths before moving on. The barmaid was friendly enough, but there is nothing much else to recommend the place.

Absolutly fantastic!!! Since they've done it up a bit!!! Food is gorgeous, we ended up staying in all night. People say the drinks are expensive but there really not. Pints of fosters for 1.90 and bottles 1.60 really cheap. Ive just found my new local!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOCATION: Among the other pubs but this is a bar! Fine!
SERVICE: You CANNOT beat it. Weekdays can be quiet but real quick. Weekends come alive, lovely ladies, tantalising cocktails, decent music with a DJ that plays those requests, and some fine barmen who work their ass off to serve u as quick as poss!
MUSIC: Pop, RnB, 80's & 90's, Rock during the week. Dance, 90's, RnB during the weekend.
FEATURES: Only Large Beer Garden among the other pubs. Car Parking for customers - clampers operate so make sure you visit the bar first for permission. Food served daily and decent home cooked stuff, no microwave meals here!

All in all - good atmosphere, pleasant customers, fine staff - a decent bar for a night out.

This bar has been around forever! It has recently undergone a refurbishment which involved reverting back to the original name. With the addition of food and Cocktail menus, we believe it has now worth a visit!
