user reviews of the Strafford Arms, Potters Bar

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The real ale pumps on the bar never seem to be in use, although they do stock some decent bottled ales. Nice fairly traditional decor - it's like being in a Wetherspoons, but without the ales. Football obscenities are left scrawled on the toilet wall for months - which makes you wonder how much the management actually care about the place....

In an area that seems to have mainly 30's semi's and a view from outside across rolling Hertfordshire countryside you enter here in to a different world of old style lager louts and chav girls with benefit brats in tow. Trying to get served in this chav hell hole is an effort in itself and after 5 minutes I thought it wasn't worth it. Good point - at least while the regulars of the this place are in here they aren't infesting anywhere esle.

Dropped in recently to find the traditional english pub-style food had changed into oriental snacks and stir-fry. Surprised to find the food delightful, the staff were helpful with drink choices, could possibly do with more ales though. Beautiful garden and overall peaceful and charming atmosphere. Hopefully I'll get the chance to come again :D

Pub full of chavs on karaoke nights. Some good live music occasionally.
Regulars deserted the place on new years eve as landlord charged too much for admission, maybe that was what he wanted.

This is a large pub with a good sized concreted area out the back with a smoking shelter and brick barbeque. There are some steps from this area that lead down to a huge tree lined beer garden with plenty of well spaced out picnic tables and there are even some childrens toys at the far end.

There was a football match on Sky Sports which was being shown on the TVs and the projector screen. The pub wasnt that busy, but everyone in seemed to be a local and Id imagine that there is an estate nearby. I found the barmaid to be friendly enough and there is a pool table ready for use.

There are five unused hand pumps, but Greene King IPA is available alongside a standard draught selection.

I wouldnt go out of my way to drink here again, but if I lived locally I would use this pub for watching sports and maybe I would utilise the garden on a nice summers day.
