This pub is set in a northern suburb of Southport with a very nice villagey feel. The pub is situated on the fork of a junction and is reasonably big. On Boxing Day evening, it was busy with punters watching Liverpool play live on the TV. Service was prompt. But the beer selection wasn't brilliant - Tetleys Bitter & Mild & Marstons EPA. Lovely location and interior though.

Good ales, excellent food prices and deals with always a selection of guest ales. Has had a refurbishment and is a regular in the Good Beer Guide by Camara. Has a working mens bar which helps keep them happy on a Friday night. Steady customer flow so they have got things right.

It's a PUB, for god's sake, Pubs are where men in working clothes go to get a drink. If they stop being that, 'respectfully', they're not worth visiting.

Great pub fantastic location full of charm. I wish the landlord would show some effort. Went in on a friday night it was crowded at the bar with men in filthy workwear one man still covered in paint even in his hair the bar was surrounded by them mud everywhere. I would suggest they are respectfully asked to drink in the vaults. This pub has that facility and should use it.Couples arriving for a meal and night out were leaving and I dont blame them.

Visited this pub the area round the bar was smokey other area to the left as you enter was fine. The guest beer was very good, ordered some food and have to say the service was fine and the staff friendly. The food itself was good and well priced.

Don't bother going if you value customer service - this pub doesn't. We used to visit regularly, but one week the chef had decided to finish early and the barman refused to take our order despite agreeing that he should still be able to. The manager was 'unavailable' to speak to us and the chef refused to, so we left. I wrote to the manager Mr Peat for his comments. After three weeks he still hasn't bothered to reply.

Must agree. Lovely old pub, lovely setting in the middle of the oldest part of Southport (Meols) but the place just lacks that something. Uninviting and I'm rarely in the place

The problems still exist , very smokey difficult to get served at Happy hours, some excellent bar staff and a couple of ordinary ones, Its a shame, great beer and location.

Good old fashioned pub, yet still manages modern food service, with good food at reasonable prices. I am not local but have never found any problems getting served. Good range of beers.

Nice setting for this local drinkers pub. Regulars very much in evidence, but no problems if you keep to yourself. Good range of cask beers and OK, cheaply priced food. Service is, I agree, hit and miss but generally acceptable.

The Bold is situated in a lovely village of Churchtown, it is a lovely pub with one of the best pints of Tetleys I have had,Unfortunately the service was not as good as the beer, I mentioned that the extractor fans were not working, the bar staff said its not worked for some time,as the locals who stood at the bar were smoking Cigars Pipes our clothes the next day needed to go to dry cleaners. Another reason was the pub was not full, but all the regulars stand at the bar and it is difficult to get served, Have been back again, still one of the best pints, but the other problems still exist.
