Friday night in Ringmer used to be fun!
Since the Anchor has been taken over the pub has changed.
When the last owners left they took the atmosphere with them.
What used to be a friendly village pub has declined into a pseudo city wine bar.
That in it's self is not necessarily the utter downfall. The problem is surly unprofessional staff, lack of attention and a general bad attitude.
It is sad that a lovely old village pub that used to heave over the weekend, full with friends having a drink or three is now pretty much empty.
Being charitable we tried it again last night. Mistake! Should have stayed in with a warm tin of 2% lager.
It would have been less excruciating.
Expensive, unfriendly, uninviting. Don't waste your money or your energy.
Life is too short. Garden looks good though!

A very enticing villagepub on the village green, well, thats from the outside, on entering the modern decor is very jarring indeed, this place would be better served having an old fashioned pub interior. Please don't tell Beerwulf, he would have a hissy fit and burst into tears! Three real ales on including a micro in decent condition, but oh ! the decor! 4/10.

The Anchor was our favourite pub of the day. It is situated just across from a cricket pitch, where a match was being played. Nextdoor, there was a flower show in the village hall. The pub itself was quieter than I had expected. It has a garden, with a bouncy castle installed. Beers on were Cronx Standard Bitter, Titanic Anchor & Harveys Sussex Best Bitter. The real cider was Battle Cider, which is fetched from the cellar, assuming the bar staff know it is there. Luckily the landlord was around to prompt! Most of the pubs we sampled in West Sussex were good. As one of only two that sold real cider, this one edged the others.

Average large village pub with friendly staff; a bit too quiet for Sunday evening, even with Euros on., Local micro beer was good enough. Pleasant looking village for a walk.

Hi Thomas76 - I did speak to her and she followed it up with more insults. I gotta say I have never complained about a pub before. I was accused of being drunk (I had 2 drinks) purely because I objected to being spoken to with such disrespect. Was pretty mad at the time but I try and treat people with respect and hope for the same.

I attend the anchor inn for the ringmer folk and blues night and i find it really hard to believe what : Harpio - 19 Jul 2010 09:52 has said about the landlady, yes she is upfront, but she is a honest and a very caring landlady and cant do enough to help people who visit the pub. I think personally if you do have any gripes with the landlady then why dont u talk to her about them? its very easy when its faceless to name and shame someone! I would only say good things about this pub and would recommend anyone to enjoy their lovely food, good harveys and friendly staff.

Attended Ringmer Folk and Blues last night, where I have attended and performed regularly. This is a great folk club, but the landlady seems to barely tolerate it. I remember when you would go into the Anchor on a Sunday night and enjoy the pleasure of up to four other customers. With the introduction of Ringmer Folk and Blues, I have seen over 50 people enjoying the music and buying drinks, despite Mel's lack of charisma and rudeness. I for one will never enter the pub again until it realises it's potential and becomes the village pub it should be, rather than the tacky pseudo sports bar that it has become. This is purely my own experience and I do not intend to make waves for Ringmer Folk and Blues in any way. I join the increasing numbers of other good customers that she has upset.

I was disappointed as I was a visitor to this part of the world and was looking forward to an evening in a typical country village pub. Lovely setting but the staff are very off hand and downright rude at times, and very "cliquey" with their own favourite regulars. The food is very mediocre, we waited ages then had to send it back because it was cold.

Considering that this is to all intents and purposes the Village local, it manages to escape that kind of image. It's got it all, good beer, good food, comfy sofas etc. but it also manages to have a kind of cool laid back kind of ambiance which you rarely get in village pubs. Landlord and staff are also cool and laid back but friendly and efficient at the same time.

Great friendly pub. Good beer. Good food. Excellent service. And the best indication clean loos. I'll be returning.

Lovely pub, good beer, food iffy. I doubt the kangaroo steak is sourced locally. However the Harveys is, so in order to reduce my carbon footprint, I tend to have another Harveys and skip(py) the kangaroo.

Stopped off for a refresher on weekday lunchtime. Friendly staff and decent Harveys. Also offered Valentine Ale from WJ King of Horsham and Exmoor Hound Dog which was temporarily unavailable. Seems like a reasonable village local with a separate dining area.

Recently taken over by really friendly couple who have started putting the occasional guest on next to well kept Harveys. Nice atmosphere and regular live music. Really good village pub.
