Stopped here when walking the Socratic Trail, taking shelter from the relentless rain, with my group.

Very friendly reception for 7 dripping wet and muddy walkers. As already mentioned, the ham, egg and chips was superb. Good range of real ales including Harvey's Best. The village is lucky to have such a great pub.

Call in if you get a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Since Dave and Jo took over the freehold of this village pub it has gone from strength to strength. The food as well as the real ales are served in superb condition and at a reasonable cost. They also have a selection of guest ales as well as a selection of food specials which are changed frequently to appease even the most ardent villagers. The pub has reestablished its self as one of the main village venues with numerous functions and fundraisers being held at the pub through out the year. They have also started there own beer festival weekend with a selection of at least 20 Real Ales from across the country ( see there web page for details). The pub is split into 3 areas, public bar, lounge bar (both with real fireplaces) and a separate restaurant / function area. This pub is a family friendly establishment with a small garden area as well as a large outside patio area, (dogs are also welcome) as well as groups. The Cock Inn can also cater for outside functions. Call for info.

Unlike the previous reviewer we both survived and enjoyed our lunch, as well as the very friendly atmosphere last week. Food had a home-cooked taste to it, very nice. Wine not too great, but everything else fine.

What a lovely friendly place turned up out the blue with 11 family and friends in tow although not over busy had a nice crowd gathered in the bar side and a few tables of diners asked for drinks must admit best pint of Harveys I have tasted in a long time very well kept 2 members of staff on who I now know as Donna and Doug the managers looking very worn out but smiling and happy was asked to take a seat while a table was arranged to seat us all together 10 mines later we were seated all in a nice group menus in hand being told what was on the specials board prices are great so we all decided on starters and mains after taking our food order asked if we would like any wine to go with our meals ordered 3 red 3 white other diners seemed to be really happy at what they had eaten and the smells from the food was mouth watering was not disappointed starters arrived 15 mins the home made soup was great very tasty mains arrive 20 mins after starters was cleared a nice pause as more drinks were delivered to us enjoyed a nice dish of liver and bacon . 5 mins into our meal was asked if everything was ok. A great meal followed by a nice treacle sponge and custard. Coffee offered the ladies enjoyed us gents decided on another pint 10.45 wasnt planning on it being a late night but felt very welcome and comfortable. Was just about to leave when asked if we minded the pub guard dog coming down as food service had finished not at all whats a pub with out a dog expecting some large beast to greet us as we left instead we saw this little ball off fluff trotting towards us so took advantage while the ladies petted the pooch we guys had a extra pint
Great night very accommodating and very friendly definitely be back 10/10

Cheers James but i think the general consensus is that you are the Village idiot. Use your own name. Cracking pub though good to be back under decent ownership, and the beer is now drinkable again a bit too much so!!

The Cock Inn has re-established itself as a village pub since December 2003. The new ownership is working well and as a ex-employee i can whole-heartedly admit that the atmosphere of this pub is one which should definately be experienced. The Landlord is a gentle follow who often enjoys a pint with his customers and his wife is adorbale and she cooks some delicious thaoi food. Mouth-watering! Yum Yum .And thats comin from me, the Village idiot, Ross Armstrong!

Having just returned from our first ever visit to The Cock We would like to give our comments. The Pub had a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent and the service was superb. We found the whole experience relaxing and very enjoyable. Would have no hesitation in recommending The Cock to family and friends.

I whole heartedly agree with David's comments. However in mid December 2003 a new publican took over the running of this once highly rated establishment. The previous owners now have nothing to do with the business at all and significant improvements have already been made, with we are promised more to follow after Christmas. Already the seating has been improved, the food is far better (and properly priced) and there are customers every night of the week. As a local/regular I for one am mightily relieved at the changes and would encourage all previous punters to return and bring their friends. This village has once again got what it needs a village pub.

In case penny reads this I ought to add that takings are likely to have increased significantly beyond the previously claimed four fold increase that was matched to a six fold reduction in customer numbers. Come back and see how it should be done!

Dave (not the David of the previous message)

Run by the same family for 14 years and then sold.
New owners redecorated it like a tart's sitting room with sofas (!)that are so soft older folks can't get out of them! Country pub in small village but new management ignored locals and went their own way. Now virtually deserted and empty of customers. Beer quality collapsed.
