Trying to think of something good to say about this place but can't! Just another run-of-the-mill, characterless carvery with indifferent staff. It serves mediocre food to an undiscerning clientele, who all seemed to be armed to the teeth with their cheap meal vouchers! The beers are generally bland and nondescript. The best thing about this pub is jumping in your car to leave!

Was always rubbish as a Beefeater and now even more rubbish as a toby cavery...despite a huge range of keg beers there are no real ales or not even any decent keg beers (just the usual carlsberg / carling / tetley /john smiths rubbish). Didnt try the food but looks rather dryed up as it had been under the lamps for so long...staff seemed gormless and uninterested. 3/10

I've worked in the pub trade on and off for about 24 years. I used to work in this pub about 18 years ago when my father ran it.
Last weekend i thought i'd pay a visit to it to see how it changed...Downhill is my thought.
Even before i got inside, i was less than happy, i had parked my car in a bay, one of four half taken by overflowing wheelie bins....and RATS!
Once i got in there it took a while to get served, the bar wasn't that busy. the staff seemed to be in thir own little world, looking for guidence from the a wall in front of them.
Finally got a pint and went and sat down in a corner,to quietly enjoy it, but it wasn't up to the required standard i would expect from a bitter.
Half way through my pint i was approached by a man and asked if i would remove my hat as the cameras couldn't see my face. by this point i was ready to leave, i'd had enough.

what annoyed me the most was being asked to take my hat off,
if i was an elderly gentleman in a cap..would he ask me to take it off?....probably not.

if i was a lady wearing a hat.. would he ask me to take it off?....probably not.

if i was someone suffering from cancer wearing a hat..would he ask me to take it off?....probably not.

if i was muslim woman wearing a face veil..would he ask me to take it off?....not a chance!

So, why me? why was i discriminated against?

So my message to the manager.
sort out a fenced off area for the bins..first impressions count.
Wake up the staff, make them earn their money.
keep the beer tip top.

and carefull on policies, because one day you may be accused of discrimination.

Now a Toby Carvery. The first couple of times I dined been here the food was good, but unfortunately has gone down hill rapidly since 2007. The food is often over cooked due to being under heat lamps, and quickly goes cold.
There is however a good selection of Beers, Lagers, wines and those girly bottle drinks.
The staff are consistantly unatentive, which i believe is unacceptable for what is basically a self service restaurant.
Without fail, everytime i've been here i've not even been greeted by a member of staff while standing in the entrace waiting to be seated. On one occasion I was told that they could not accomodate my party of 8 guests, even though we could all see a large round empty table clearly in view over the waitresses shoulder. She eventually allowed us to sit there and dine.
Also on more than one occasion they have been all out of IPA Bitter.

Hasn't changed since Sid made his comment back in 03. It's either a Beefeater, Harvester or Brewers Fayre place. I've never been able to tell the difference.
